 Let's change the date and day, again, to Sunday, July 2.

OK, a little more notice this time. Would like to explore a tentative route I mapped out. Although we will be on hard surface quite a bit, we also will be on some pretty rough unpaved sections. This might include visiting the following sites:

Site of Old Peach Tree Village
Marker Title: Site of Old Peach Tree Village
City: Chester
County: Tyler
Year Marker Erected: 1966
Marker Location: FM 2097 2.5 mi N of US 287
Marker Text: In the early 19th century, the Alabama Indians -- then a large tribe -- made their headquarters on this site, and called their village "Ta-Ku-La," which meant "Peach Tree." Two trails blazed by early pioneers crossed here. A north-south trail came from Anahuac on the Gulf of Mexico, over the Neches River, leading onward to Nacogdoches; The other ran east-west from Opelousas, Louisiana, through what is now Moscow, to present Huntsville, then west to San Antonio. Other trails diverged from this: to the Galveston Bay area, San Felipe de Austin, and Goliad. The crossing of the trails made this a trading center of importance. With the coming of white settlers, the Alabama Indians withdrew, and the remnant of that tribe is now located about 15 miles south -- occupying the only Indian reservation in Texas. In Old Peach Tree village, some historic homes are marked. It is also site of the Kirby museum, founded by John Henry Kirby (1860-1940), who was born here, and whose career included service as a legislator, as well as leadership in lumbering, banking, oil development and railroad building.

Fort Teran, Site of

Fort Teran Park

Hey Danny,

How about a more detailed route, I would enjoy doing this! However I see that you are planning this on Sunday and with it being Fathers day I will be on grill duty at the parents place in Woden. But I could ride it Saturday morning on my up....

I'm getting the info on the Ft. Teran site, which I didn't have on my original ride. I have the coordinates, which are 31 01 43 N 94 28 04 W

I can attach a Microsoft Word document with the originally proposed ride directions on it if you PM me your e-mail address. Remember, now that this ride has not been scouted, just looking on maps and having gone down a few of the roads. This ride I was planning is a scouting ride of sorts.

No takers, probably due to being Father's Day.

I am changing the date. How many would make it if we did this on Saturday morning to coincide with R1200GSA's trip?

I am still game and am will to be up in the great metropolis of Moscow around 9 or 10 am.

Danny,

lets do it, we can scout a route of Moscow to Geneva too if you like. Any excuse to take a ride that includes a bit of exploring sounds good to me.

P.S... I am out of the state this week, how much rain has East Texas gotten the past 6 days or so?

Cheers,
Duke

Very little, if any, rain recently. It's very dusty now, but that is expected to change this weekend. The chances of rain on Saturday increasing to 60%. We'll play it by ear.

I will be working Sat. morning.
Just got the new tires for the KLR in today, the rear was slick after the Chicken Ranch Ride. In fact so bad I have not ridden it to work at all this week. Not sure If I will be able to get them mounted before the weekend.

But if every one bales out Sat. I may get out on Sunday.

Fiddling with my GPS software, it appears that getting across the Neches River will be the biggest hurdle to work out. Ther are tons of roads generally heading the direction of Geneva, but only a couple of ways across the river and Lake Sam Rayburn. I don't see any on the software between 59 and 69.

I am starting a project on Sam Rayburn . . . maybe I will make sure that I have a meeting on a Friday and bring my scoot.

Well y'all sorry to be a tease, but it looks like I will not be flying back home until Saturday now. I am currently working out of my hotel in Grand Junction, CO and have had a meeting move to Friday afternoon.... any way, It looks like that I am going to have to pass on this weekend.

Sorry.

Looks like Saturday is a scratch. 3 of my 4 kids are going to be at the house on Sat, so it turns out that Sunday may be better for me.

Tom, if you got the new tires mounted on the KLR we can get a mile or two on them on Sunday morning. If not, maybe the "Killing Machine" can make the run to Ft. Teran. Let's see how things work out, drop me a line.

No, we didn't get it together, Father's Day, Tom needed to replace tires on his KLR, and then it "Came a Frog Strangler". The rain really greened things up from the drought conditions we had and settled the dust a bit. When you get back give me a holler.

Maybe we can get a ride together for Sunday, July 2. Fbronco86 and Hairsmith, will you have the Kaws ready by then and be in the area and available?

If so, we should start a new thread on the DS Forum with that date, maybe there are some other guys that want to venture out on Sunday morning.
