Chuck asked me the other day why I didn't just put this stuff on ebay and make a couple of bucks and I replied it was a pain, plus I'd rather give my "moto family" first crack at this stuff and that hopefully the idea would spread.

As some of you know I'm started to study for my Ham license and when you're licensed the FCC will allow you to have a "vanity" license of your choosing if it's not already taken. Well I thought it would be cool to run with my dad's license that he had when I was a kid (he died when I was 15), but my mom doesn't know what the call sign was, doesn't have any records of it, the FCC hasn't responded to my email, and then a couple of days ago I find his old addess book dated 1948 - 1968. There were a dozen call signs and names in the back of the book and 3 of them are still current.
So I set about tracking down some folks to see if they might have remembered my dad, perhaps had a log record of talking with him, etc. Several of his contacts were from around his home town back in NJ. I received several responses, one who even remembered my grandfather and grandmother but no call sign info.
Tonight I continued to clean out boxes - found some of my old Lionel train stuff - some of my grandfather's and great-grandfather's woodworking tools - and more neat stuff and then I opened the last box of the evening about a half hour ago. The manila folder on the top of the pile was his Call Logs with his call signs written down. Excellent! :-P
Now, to top that off I found 4 small reel-to-reel tapes that we used to record on and send back to the grandparents for them to listen to, and then they would record info and sent it back overseas to us. MUCH cheaper than International Long Distance back in the early 60's! So now I need to get these transferred to CD and who knows, after 35+ years I just might be able to hear my dad's voice again. How cool would that be?
So yeah, I believe that what goes around, comes around.
Thanks for listening (reading).
