The Fort Worth Rexxer's are leaving out at around 0700. We'll head down 377 and 144 to Glen Rose. So we could meet you at the town square in Glen Rose at 0745. From there...

The pace will be spirited. For those who like to smell the flowers, this route might not be your first choice since it requires a fairly fast pace in order to make it to Hutto by 1100. I realize I'm swinging west in order to go east. What can I say? That seems to be where the good roads are.:-D

Buddy, just give me a shout about where you want to meet up. If you wind up staying at Mother Neff, I suppose we could meet up in Gatesville.

I haven't looked yet at setting up a ride from Temple. I'll look at doing that soon. One possibility would be to use the latter half of FWRex's route. As soon as I come up with something, I'll post here with an estimated timeframe, too.

It varies by group, most try to get a ride together to the meet, and ride
with the same group on the return. Others get there alone and ride with a group back, some ride with one group up and another back the only constant
is we usually eat together:eat:

FJR Bandit, where will you be coming from? We live on the N.W. side, in Leon Valley, near Bandera Rd. (hwy. 16) and Huebner Rd. We are not far from loop 410, or 1604 - either intersects with Bandera Rd. Maybe we could meet up, then head to New Braunfels and meet up with the other guy (Bud? Buzz?).

Ok, Bandit, we're out of town until this Thursday. At our RV near Choke Canyon. Do you live somewhere down this way, like Tilden or Jourdanton? When we get home, we'll check our calendar & make sure we're clear to go. If so, I'd prefer to meet at Bandera & 410. Then we can head for 35 to meet up with our N.B. rider. So, I'll post Thurs. or Fri. to let you know if we're going.

or is there a planned ride that I just have not seen yet ????
The Austin group will usually put a meeting spot in the thread. If one doesn't pop up, go ahead and start one. I suggest meeting at the Taco Caban in Cedar Park. Everyone knows where that is.

I still have not replaced my sys admin, so my schedule is beyond my control at the moment. (Hey Texas-Tri, offer is still open.)

I was meaning a ride through Hutto and the back roads once we met up there...

The Taco Cabana is fine with me to meet for the ride over to Hutto... takes about 25-30 to get to Hutto wouldn't you say?? What time are folks wanting to meet????

Tgatortexas1, I live about 110 miles South of SA on 16. I can caught 410 to Bandera or meet you on the Northside off of 35. That is I got the day off. They still have not posted our work schedule. I'll let you know as soon as I know.

I met a group of about 15 riders :eek2: in my town today...well I only talked to one....but told him about TWT :trust: and our pie :eat: run.

The group is out of Laredo....my part of Texas.. ...and invited him and his group to join us:rider: :eat: :rider: .

So it might be me +5, 10, 15 or ?? ;-) I will EM him later this week to see if any of them will be joining us.

Debbie's Pie's is actually part of a restaurant in Hutto (The Texas Cafe (http://www.texancafe.net/)). I'd guesstimate the capacity of the restaurant at about 80-100 folks???

Ok, plenty of Houston area riders on the list. We're under the one week mark, so someone needs to come up with a plan, route, meetup, etc.

I led the last one, but everyone complained about the U-turns so no, I'm NOT leading this one! Oh, and I still don't have a GPS, so we'd get lost if I did...

Who, what, where, when, and how???

I humbly suggest 696 (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Austin,+TX&ie=UTF8&ll=30.310949,-97.305565&spn=0.033196,0.085745&om=1) and/or 112 (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Austin,+TX&ie=UTF8&ll=30.414705,-97.027559&spn=0.01658,0.042872&om=1) or possibly 619 (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Austin,+TX&ie=UTF8&ll=30.363841,-97.244282&spn=0.033178,0.085745&om=1) be included in your route... 696 is fun sweepage all the way out to 21... :rider:

If you're intent on making a more straight shot of it, you can also take 290 West to Elgin, then 95 North just past Coupland, make a left on 1660 (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Austin,+TX&ie=UTF8&ll=30.476639,-97.441864&spn=0.033139,0.085745&om=1), and enjoy more sweepers into Hutto.

What's the count so far? I was thinking I might want to give them some warning about the crowd they can expect Saturday, as half of their restaurant is probably going to be full of stinky people wearing Cordura:lol2:

Ok, at this time I am up to 95%, depending on my Dad's situation.

If I go, I don't mind leading, if we all agree to avoid 290 at all costs. I have what looks like a fun route, but Streets and trips estimates it taking 6 hours for 198 miles.

Is there anyway we can post routes to discuss this? Anyone else have S&T?

As far as i know we are going to just drive pretty straightway over to hutto. Its about 2.5-3 hours one way with no scenic routes. I imagine we are going to leave about 7-730 saturday. I will let you know more when I do. I dont see any problems with meeting in BCS that morning if you want to join. I am not sure how many there are at this point. We are not going to have a huge group, 2-4 bikes i would think.--jack

Attention!!

Just so everyone knows, two blocks away from the Texan Cafe will be "Hawgs for Dawgs" benefit for the Hutto Humane Society starting by selling breakfast tacos at 9am and then at 11am they will be leaving for a 100 mile run (that will take all afternoon!!). So "following all the other bikes" might not get you were you want to go.

Debbie's has been alerted, which brings up the interesting question - "Who showed up last Saturday for the pie run?"

Ok Houston team -- here is a route from SW Houston to Hutto. I've got a Maps and Streets Data File if someone can clue me in on how to post it. Following are the turn by turns. There are some options around Bastrop -- cutting through the park would be great -- I can't recall if one needs to pay a fee if just driving through. Also, the route up near Coupland is not real creative (there is however a great BBQ place) -- I need to find some of my old maps from when I was in the Austin Cycling Association (human powered bikes) as there were a couple of different rides out near Coupland -- if I have time, I’ll try to polish that part up a bit. Also, I need to see if gas will be availble each 150 miles +/-. If anyone is interested that can't get that far on a tank, let me know.

Disclaimer -- I've not taken this exact route before so I can't vouch for road quality, need for u-turns etc, i.e. YMMV, we are all adults here?

I’m about 85% to go, I’ll know for certain Thursday evening. I'd be happy to lead but I'm no speedster -- I run the limit up to +10 if I know the road OR there is good visibility all the way through the turns. M&S says 5.5 hours for this, with stops for 15 min each 2 hours -- so it looks like a 6 am departure OR we could slab it for a short while, say out to LA Grange, although I don't know that it would cut out much time.

If someone wants to suggest a closer in start point, that would be fine. I live at Westheimer and 610 so anyplace from IH10 South and West works for me.

Any takers?

Ok, I know you and I can do it on the GS and the Strom, but the street riders won't enjoy it. When we get to Post Oak, the street group goes south and then back up 77 to meet us at the other end since it's rough gravel.

I might be leaving from up in Cypress now, but if that falls through I'll try this route with ya. You coming back the same day, or staying out there overnight?

ejk
07-26-2006, 12:15 AM
Not sure if I'm staying or not. I may take a quick run into Austin proper to Lone Star BMW and then stay overnight with my brother in law, return Sunday bright and earily as I need to catch a flight to Calif. Or, just make a day of it and come back via Elgin / Bastrop / Columbus via 95/71 to make time on the return trip.

If those of you leaving from Cypress want to link up, let me know, I have no idea who may want to start SW.

I actually planned the route from Hutto to Houston, thinking I might slab it up Friday evening. You might have noticed, I don't think the end point is actually the pie place.

I20 to 16, 16 south to 29, 29 east to 1431. 1431 will get you to the Austin area. Don't know anything about 1431 so someone might chime in and give an opinion.

Well, there is this (http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=438). ;-)

I'd offer a slight mod to that route. Take 29 East past 1431 to PR4 (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Marble+Falls,+TX&ie=UTF8&ll=30.738147,-98.403683&spn=0.0661,0.17149&om=1) to 281 south to 1431 in Marble Falls, then turn left on 1431 to go East to Austin. Actually, you can now take 1431 all the way until it ends at CR 110 south of Georgetown. Turn right and take CR 110 all the way to 79. Turn left and you'll quickly be in Hutto. The cafe/pie place is one street before the (only) light on 79 in Hutto.

I haven't seen anything appealing to streetbikes yet. The one route posted appears to be for dual-sport.

It seems that it can be a 5 hours ride so 6 a.m. seems a "reasonable" hour. I wouldn't mind to joint the "dirty" people if we can by-pass the dirt and set intermediate meeting points (it may be complicated though).

I do not know the area but if you have a highly develped sense of adventure I can lead... not sure where, but I can lead.

Other than the short stretch mentioned in a post above, that route is NOT intended to be dual sport. If anyone is aware of any other unpaved roads on that one, let me know and I will re-route -- I have NO desire to ride dirt given all the rain we have been having. I do have a GPS as well.

I haven't seen anything appealing to streetbikes yet. The one route posted appears to be for dual-sport.

What time were you thinking about leaving?

How does this sound? I got my dates mixed up, and rode up there last weekend on this route. Well almost this route. I have bypassed Post Oak Road on this one. There is some construction on 973 and/or 1660. It was not bad when I went through though.

It's two dollars to "drive through" the park, BTW

Starting from NW Houston

West on 529 to Belleville
Pick up 159 West
Turn Left (S) onto 109
109 becomes 1291

Dutch,
It looks to be about 4 hours from Kilgore. I'm thinking we'll leave here about 6:15 or 6:30 and take 135 down to 79 at J'ville. IIRC, there's a McD's on 69 just about at the turn onto 79. I should be there by 7 or 7:10 at the latest if you want to hook up there. We can boogie down 79 on the way there and rely on your map skills on the way back., assuming you're coming from tyler. We'll be two up on Bugly (still bearing great Blue Heron scars ... can't bear to be off long enough to get it painted) while the Ninja's being examined by the insurance guys). We're short-staffed here and if work :eek2: intervenes, I'll PM you.

7:15 at the McD's in Jacksonville. I'm about 99.7% sure I'll be going. I had planned 79 too and a few twistier roads on the way back. From Tyler to Tyler was gonna be 430 miles. Let's ride!

It looks like the ZRX rider that was supposed to meet up with our group in Glen Rose has had to drop the ride. As it stands now, I've got a group of eight members of our owner's association going with me. If any more from D/FW decide to head down, I'd rather that we did it as two groups. I typically don't care for trying to organize huge groups of riders and prefer to break them up into smaller groups when possible. Besides, the guys on the ZRX's tend to egg each other on, which, coupled with the distance that has to be covered by 1100, will ensure that our group's pace will be insane at best.

I know that rickmillertx and rbickle were asking about groups meeting in the D/FW area. That might be a good place to start.

Well I wanted to try and take a little trip while I was out that way so I mapped this out... it goes from Hutto to Normans Crossing to Coupland, to Beyersville, to Waterloo, Granger Lake, Friendship , Granger, Mozo, Jonah and back to Hutto... There seems to be some nice park areas out at Granger and the total distance is only 65 miles ( Since some folks are coming from far off I figured they may not want to go out to far.. I will see what I can come up with for a longer ride to post...

I personally kind of like CR100 (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Georgetown,+TX&ie=UTF8&t=h&om=1&ll=30.646146,-97.582626&spn=0.008123,0.021436) just east of the river crossing off of 29. You could take 971 to CR120 in Weir to get to it, but you've probably taken all those roads.

If you take CR100, you can then go CR130 to CR131 which dumps you out just north of the nice sweepers of 1660 (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Georgetown,+TX&ie=UTF8&ll=30.597582,-97.537823&spn=0.033098,0.085745&t=h&om=1) north of Hutto.

OK, here's the plan for those who would like to ride with us from huntsville. The more I looked at the roads to hutto , I thought we would combine some St hwy and some FM roads. The pace should just over speed limit and safe. Should make a nice trip over.

We will meet at the North end of the mall (JC Penny's end) and leave from there. The mall is about a mile West of I45 on hwy 30 and is on the left side (south) of hwy 30. We will be leaving at 730 am. There are plenty of gas stations and an IHOP close by (tina and I will probly eat here for breakfast). We will go to BCS and make a quick stop to see if anyone from BCS area wants to join and a pitstop. The meeting place for BCS will be the gas station at HWY 30 and 158. We will leave the gas station at 830 am and then on to Hutto. The route we will use is as follows.

meet at mall parking lot, leave 730 am
W on hwy 30 to BCS.
Stop at gas station at intersection of hwy 30 and 158
resume trip at 830 am
********update***********
BCS riders will lead us down fm 166 to caldwell
then over to 696
696 thru Lexington to 619
619 to 1466 to 95 N to 1660 to 79 in Hutto.

please be fueled up and ready to roll at 730.
I have never been on these roads, but with towns like hogg, gus, etc, it has to be a fun ride. If you can, email me so i can know if you plan on riding with us and I can be looking for you. email addy is

Ok, time is getting short. I am suggesting the people who are on the South and West side meet at 1458 and I-10. There is a large service station on the north side of the road. This is also known as the Frydek/ San Felipe exit.

I think if we roar out of there by 6:30, we should get to Hutto in time to get our choice of pies.

EJK and I have been discussing routes. I am not planning on taking any gravel roads. I am also not planning on taking any freeways. We have a couple of routes we have been bouncing back and forth in S&T. If you have the software, send me an e-mail and I will send you the routes.

Please be advised that a route change has been made. This is based on the recommendations of others for a better ride without any loss in time. The leave time and meeting place for huntsville will remain the same ( mall 730 am), as well as the meeting place/time for BCS riders. Refer to post by me on the huntsville group if you want to see the new route. I am not trying to confuse anyone but if cool roads are there I think we should try them out. Welcome! There is absolutely nothing worthwhile between Georgetown and Hutto roadwise. I plan on going out Hwy 29 and down 1660. I keep staring at Mapsource trying to make it more interesting, but just can't. If you like we can meet up at Starbucks at 10:15.

If you have a GPS take 100 or 110 off 29 about a mile before 1660 and just get lost for a few minute. Nice and twisty.

Is anybody riding from the Austin area to this Pie Run?

I'm in the North Austin area and I'm willing to rid a bit to meet up with the other folks. Unfortunately, I can't suggest any routes to the restaurant as I'm not familiar with the area. Thanks in advance!

PM with your email and I'll come meet you some where if you want someone to ride in with.

This is true and I will be taking the mutt out there to get his shots.
Sounds like Chirpy won't be doing the pub crawl with the other nice folks.

I'm hogging the board so I'll stop. Got to get back to studing for this RHCE anyway.

See everyone in Hutto.

I didn't have time to post any comments after I uploaded all the pics...
I just told the boy to snap pics of turns and anything that he thought might look good in a scout report...Some are blurry or out of frame, but for a 13yr old who would have rather sat at home with his iPod than to tag along with dad ( and I quote) " This is what you like doing?" " There's nothing out here but fields and roads". ( I think he did notice the lake) There are three or four Parks and an obersavation area out at the lake too... but we didn't stop, since I wanted to get the scouting done... anyway... I plan to go out this way after we have pie and anyone that wants to tag along is welcome, I will be doing the short loop not the long...

Yep it is what I like doing! Notice the absence of trees, the abundunce of curves, There are some treed sections but for the most part there are no barbed wire fences to worry about. There should be a steady southerly breeze, lots of old structures. Feilds are starting to be plowed under. Lots of "summer smells" to be expected.Hopper population is thin this year so bug count well be down.

Any takers on the following?

Well I wanted to try and take a little trip while I was out that way so I mapped this out... it goes from Hutto to Normans Crossing to Coupland, to Beyersville, to Waterloo, Granger Lake, Friendship , Granger, Mozo, Jonah and back to Hutto... There seems to be some nice park areas out at Granger and the total distance is only 65 miles ( Since some folks are coming from far off I figured they may not want to go out too far.. I will see what I can come up with for a longer ride to post...

It's about a 25-30 min ride to Hutto, going the way I listed. ( Traffic and all)

I like the idea of TC better than Home DePot just because there are stop lights to turn us as a group,
rather than the " Beat the traffic" turn out of Home Depot onto 1431...

But I will go with what ever the group decides...

Looks like a good turn-out.
Anyone been there that can advise on the credit/debit/cash/checks situation?

I noted on the scout ride that there is not a lot of parking directly in front but about two shops down on the right there is plenty .
if we are allowed to park there... And we got to take a group photo by the hippo, I think it is law in that town :lol2:
OH yeah there is lots of old cemeteries on the loop ride, one old bridge, a town hall, a dance hall, a dam, severial parks, and churches so bring your camera's. NO gas stations, that I saw. So fill up and get water before we go.

I'm in! :thumb: I have the green light for Saturday. I'll see the Austin crew at Taco Banana on 183 @ Walton Way at 10am.

One thought - for future rides, why don't we just meet up in a corner of a parking lot at Lakeline Mall (like by the old Ultimate Electronics)? Everyone knows where it is, there's plenty of room, and you can get in and out a few different ways depending on how traffic is. Just an idea...

Question for anyone: Can someone bring a spanner wrench? I need to adjust Jen's rear shock on her new 919 but Honda no longer puts the full tool kits on the bikes as of 2006. It should only take a second to add a couple of clicks.

Leaving from FM 1488 and
I-45 Just north of the Woodlands. What do you think travel time will be from here to the mall?

Chuck,

It usually takes me about 45 minutes to get from my mall to your mall slabbing it on I-45. See ya tomorrow. :pirate:

I don't know what a spanner wrench is but I'll have my underseat tool kit with me and you're welcome to anything in it.

Thanks, Squeaky. Hopefully your DL1000 kit will be different than my SV1000 kit. It didn't come with a spanner wrench either (everything else under the sun, though).

If it's the same as the one your VFR had then mine will be there and you're welcome to use it.

I too will be seeing the Austin crew at Taco Banana on 183 @ Walton Way at 10am.

Red

Yeah, right, tiny, Mr. Bergman 650 owner! :-P Welcome back, Red...looking forward to hearing all about the Colorado trip.

Nice to know I won't have the only scooter there. Or the only one with new Pirellis!

Just called them and gave them the latest numbers. They take anything but Discover and they will make sure to have lots of pie on hand.
