What a wonderful invitation, that part of NM is just perfect that time of year..
If I remember correctly you guys live up there don't you?
It would be a squeeze for me, for sure, with the "LOST TRAIL RIDE" in August and the "NEVADA RALLY" in September.....I'll start working it in to the schedule and see what I can do....
Thanks so much.....

Yes sir Mr. Rocketman...we live here, for now. We'll be moving back to Texas sometime next year, or possibly the year after. Looks like you have a busy schedule, but we hope you can make it anyway.

Scott said doo ... :eek2: Scott, kids are a handful at any point, but the first month or two are the greatest. Enjoy!!! Of course, that is easy for me to say, as mine are going to be 33 this year.
I thought I would feel old when I became a grandfather ... nope
I thought I would feel old when they turned 30 ... nope
I thought I would feel old when they started getting gray hair ... That happened recently and my mind is still working on that one ... :lol2:

I always enjoy the Cloudcroft/Ruidoso area. The only beeoch is getting there through the desert heat. :lol2: It's a long day's ride, but can be made in a day from the coast of Texas. That area and the Guadeloupes are easiest REAL mountains to get to. Actually, they're as easy to get to as the Chisos or Davis from here.

Is anyone going from the Fort Worth area? I am going to try and get a kitchen pass for this trip and would like to see if anyone would like to ride up together. Any riders all the way or is everyone trailing up? I am going to start looking at the maps today.

Here's to hoping you can make it ridingmyklr.
Just a hint for those that are planning to trailer to the ride...if you've got more than two bikes on your trailer, you'll most likely need 4 wheel drive to get up to the house. Our private drive is long, narrow, winding and unpaved. We have managed it, barely, pulling a 16 ft car hauler loaded with two KLRs in a Chevy 2500 HD two wheel drive truck, but any heavier than that, and we have to unhitch the trailer at the bottom, go get the F150 4x4, rehitch and get on up to the house.

I have spent the last few days planning this trip and making maps for my GPS. I even ordered some new toys for the bike. Then I got reminded of a wedding that I have to go to that Saturday. It is an evening wedding, so there is no way that I could even leave after the wedding and ride on Sunday and Monday. Hopefully next time. Thanks for the invite. I hope you all have a great time and please share your pictures. Later.

Does anyone want to leave Saturday night and share driving and gas. I have an evening wedding I have to go to. I can stay an extra day. Leave Tuesday in the am to drive back. Let me know if this would work for anyone. I have a 4wd Ranger, I do not think two KLR's will fit in the back, but if you have a trailer we can get this to work. Let me know. I really do not want to miss this.

As a reference point, I just got back from Alamogordo, 15 min west of klrno2's - drove ~75mph most of the way and it took ~9 hours to my house on the south side of Ft. Worth. - included 1 stop for gas and 1 stop for...
I-20 -> Big Spring, 87-> Lamesa, 180 -> Hobbs NM, 529 (do NOT confuse this with 483) and 82 -> Artesia, 82 -> some really hard-to-find back roads ->klrno2's

Is this an open invitation to anyone? I'm looking for somewhere to ride in the mountains in September and wondered if a newbie to these forums could snag an invite?
I live in Denton and could haul a bike and rider up in my truck. My ride is an XR 250 Honda and I promise I can keep up and will pull my share of the load.

Is your XR250 a dual sport? I believe the invite is for all dual sporters. I would love to go with you, but have a wedding Saturday evening, that I have to attend. I would not be able to leave until after 9:00pm that night. It would take about 9 hours of driving to get there and than ride all day before I got any rest. I would be tempted if anyone wanted to share the driving and sleeping time up there. Oh well, maybe KLRN02 will do this again.

At this point I appear to be out. I did get the shoulder xrayed yesterday and nothing is broken, but I cannot lift my elbow more than about 4~6 inches from my waist. I am calling a sports doc today and try to get an appointment. The last time I injured my arm this way, I could not lift my arm for about a month.
More when I know more ...
:tears: Dang it ... I really wanted to come on this ride. Even if I get better, I have so much to repair on my bike that I don't think I could make it because of that. My tires are on back order and I toasted the new Maxxis with the one ride. Heck, my XR is still in the back of my truck because I cannot unload it by myself.
The Lost Trail Ride really beat me up this time. It didn't win, but it did beat me up. Well, I guess it did win as we didn't get to ride it, but that is a different kind of win.

Teeds...I am so, so sorry to learn that you're injured and your bike broken to the point that you'll not be able to make the Labor Day ride. Scooter and I were looking forward to meeting you, riding and storytelling with you.
On the other hand, I fully understand, as I recently crashed and broke my KLR beyond the powers of duct tape. Fortunately, no injuries, just some bruising, and my KLR is ready to ride again. I'm blessed to have Scooter, as he rode my broken KLR back down the mountain, sans right footpeg and rear brake pedal, a feat that I was not looking forward to. He allowed me to ride his uncrashed KLR, on the promise that I wouldn't throw it on the ground. :lol2:

Well, how did it go? :rider: I hope everyone had a good time. Let's see pictures and here some stories.
Here's a brief report without pics...I'll repost a full report with pics tonight or tomorrow.
Arrived Fri. pm at Scooter Hose and KLRNO2 after driving thru an absolute deluge the last 20 miles... BB sized hail and serious rain. Only 3 others showed for the Sat. ride. We got up Sat. morning to cloudy weather but no rain... went west(down the mountains) for a short ride, and then took West Side Road back up into the higher elevations. Had a dry ride (although lot's of mud holes on West Side Road) until mid-afternoon. When we left Timberon it was misting rain and as we gained elevation going north, it got somewhat wetter, but still a nice ride up to Sacramento Look-out, on to Karr Canyon and back to the house. Rained all night Sat. night and continued Sun. morning, so I left for Odessa, only to find the same weather when I got home.
One more rider from El Paso arrived Sun. morning but no one seemed too anxious to ride in heavy rain. We got in a good full day ride Sat. and Scooter Hose and KLRNO2 were great hosts. They have a place that has to be seen to appreciated. (and 2 really cool dogs) ...
Photos to follow on the next report.

Unfortunately, as Skinny said, the weather was very uncooperative. There really wasn't any heat to beat...as it rained, rained, and rained some more. All of the great lookouts that we wanted to share were pretty well socked in with clouds and mist. again.
About our only entertainment involved beer and watching the dog bite Scooterhose. :lol2:
