I know that most of you are much more mechanically inclined than I am so I'll see what you think. I just purchased a K&N jet kit for my girlfriend's '01 Ninja 250. We have had an aftermarket exhaust on it already for sometime but I've been told a jet kit would really help keep the bike from running lean or in fact, just run better with the exhaust. So, anyway I bought one but I have no idea how to install it so I'm leaving it up to the professionals. How much should I expect to pay for a motorcycle shop to do this for me? I don't really get good vibes from the rusty old mechanic at our local Kawasaki dealer and the other big dealer here in town gave me an astronomical figure but she is only the counter person and didn't really seem to even know what a jet-kit was. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Figure two hours labor, probably in the $120 range. If they want more than 2 hours, question their competence. Know anyone who could show you how? Once you learn, you'll never pay anyone to do it again.

The only person I know that I'd feel comfortable showing me is a cousin who lives very far away. Us non-mechanics have it rough. I always hate handing over the keys to something I take great pride in keeping tip top. You always hope it is still tip top when you get it back.

The local dealers around here usually charge $50 PER carb. So, I learned while another guy showed me. It's quite easy, actually.

Well, I thought it astronomical in relation to the price of the actual kit. The dealer here quoted $135.95 plus parts per carb and I am to understand that there are 2 on this bike. I just called a dealer in DFW who just said $130 plus parts which sounds a bit more reasonable. So I don't know if the local place would charge just $135 or double that.

Hey I appreciate the offer to show me how to do it. Lufkin is about 2 hours away from Magnolia, though. I am a good distance away from all you Houston guys. I wish I were closer because I know hanging out with everybody I would definitely learn alot about taking care of my own bikes instead of always relying on the dealership. But, like I said in an earlier post, "those who can't...purchase from those who can."
