I have an IBM Netfinity 5600 Server that I do not use. It is a big stand alone server (not a rack mount). It has a dual processor motherboard, but It only has one PIII 667 currently. It has 5 18.2 gig scsi drives, a 20gig tape drive, 1 gig ram, 3 hot swap power supplies.

Here is a link to an ebay ad with a server that is identical in appearance: Ebay Link (http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-NETFINITY-5600-DUAL-PIII-1GHZ-1GB-RAM-5X-18GB-RAID_W0QQitemZ180004703882QQihZ008QQcategoryZ11215 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

It is one heavy beast and shipping it is not an option, sorry.

At the present time it has a some flavor of linux on it (I think it is Mandriva, not sure)

I will offer it to the person who comes closes to the number between 1 and 100 that I have determined before posting.

Please do not take a guess if you have any intention of reselling it!

The recipient will be chosen Friday 7/14 at 6:00 pm.

edit - I have finally gotten around to cleaning out my storage, and am ready to give away the original server plus some more items.

In addition to the original server offered, I have a Compaq Proliant 6400r rack mount server, a Sun Ultra Workstation with 6 or 7 x-windows terminals and a scsi tower with 4 cd drives. There is also a Compaq Deskpro mini desktop (great for a linux firewall), and 7 or so fiber to ethernet converters. Almost forgot, there are 6 or 7 17" monitors and 1 19" monitor.

Since the original offering using number picking did not generate much interest, first post/pm to lay claim gets it.

p.s. this update posted via my cell phone, boy are my thumbs tired

I still have the server - but is is packed away in storage now. I am in the process of moving and when I uncover it I will give it away then. Sorry.

I have updated the original post to reflect additional items. The original server has dibs pending from the first attempt to give away. I will update as items get spoken for when time allows.

I assume the monitors are all CRTs?

What are the specs on that Compaq desktop?

The Proliant 6400r is spoken for.

The IBM is still available.

Hey Scott, I really want to thank you for holding the server for me. It was nice meeting you and your CFO. At the least my wife enjoyed the ride out to Spring.

Took me a while to break the password but it was worth the wait. I had to play musical chairs with the processors but found the two slots that let both the Xeon’s humm.

Tried to get more memory to work but it’s a Comcrap so I’ll have to find some propriety type memory.

Also it had a dummy dust cover for the second (redundant) power supply so I’ll look for one on E-bay.

I have it rack mounted now with a couple of CIsco routers and should be able to get it configured as a Web Server.

It scoots pretty well with 2000 server. Prolly the dual Xeons. I’ll take the mirror off of the number two SCSI and see how it likes Redhat’s flavor of Linux.

Thanks again and I hope to eat some pie with you soon on a run.

I am glad to see that you will get some use out of it.

One of my resolutions this year was to try and make at least one of the pie runs, hopefully I will be able to keep it! :eat:
