Howdy,

I guess this guy thought he was so good he'd never wreck and wouldn't need a helmet:

The Channel 13 website has a news discussion forum, and a woman who saw the wreckage posted this:

I happened to pass by this accident on my way home last night. At that point most of everything was cleared away. But that motorcycle was imbeaded into the side of that SUV. It was just stuck on there like the SUV were made of clay.

To the best of my knowledge, the fastest section of Westheimer has a speed limit that's no more than 40 or 45 mph. He had to have been going way faster than that. Wearing a helmet probably wouldn't have made much of a difference.

No doubt. I was actually poking fun at the squids that say things like, "I don't need protective gear because I'm so good I'll never get in an accident." It is more that mentality that gets me than the lack of a helmet specifically. I was in a hurry and "did na splain ma sef adaqatly"

Hey, that's O.K. Maybe I'm the one who wasn't being clear enough. I understood what you were implying and was only attempting to add emphasis.

It's tragic that the guy died, but it sounds like he made a number of bad choices and suffered the consequences. At least he didn't take out anybody else.

Not too familiar with Westheimer except around the Galleria area (we have an office there) but I just can't imagine going too fast around that area, way too much traffic.

And we wonder how people get such a bad view of us riders. :angryfir:
