Am I missing something here? Does anybody get fully covered on their bikes these days? Granted, I have a sportbike, VFR800, but $1000+ for full coverage? I moved from Utah last year and was paying an annual of $380. I'm entertaining other bike options for purchase, but can't get past the potential insurance premium that comes with it. I live in Harris Cty, married and 33 y/o. If someone can give me a recommendation - please do!

That's why you see so many Triumph Sprints here. On mine, I paid $600/yr full covg through Fairyland. Then, I got the VFR and they quoted me $2700/yr! (granted, they had just paid off my claim for the totalled Sprint)

I said, but it's an older bike with 200 fewer cc's and the rep said "doesn't matter, it's classified as a 'high performance'" motorcycle.

Whereas Triumphs are not--but that may be changing, as I know of at least 4 totalled Sprint ST claims in 2002 in Texas. *whistle*

So now I carry liability only from Progressive: $140/yr. :(

I've got liability, uninsured motorist, comprehensive, and roadside assistance on my 1992 VFR750 and my 1985 VF500F Interceptor for $484 a year through Progressive. I live in Brazos county. When I first insured my VF500 I lived in Harris county and it was $306 a year for that same coverage. After the first year it dropped to $260. When I moved to College Station, it dropped to $206. When I added the VFR in November, it went up to $484. Collision adds a big chunk to the rates, so I don't use it. If I have the unfortunate occurrence of an accident bad enough to establish a claim, they'll probably total my old bikes and give me book value which is squat compared to what I have invested in the bikes and their mods. I did buy the VFR under book though... :)

I've gotten quotes that are all over the map from different agents for the very same insurance company, so I would say the agent is the determining factor. If they don't want to write a policy for a motorcycle, or they don't understand their risk, they just price it sky-high.

Currently, I'm with Progressive through Haley Insurance Agency. I don't have any claims experience with them, so I can't say what their customer service is like. However, the premium they're charging me is fair. Anybody who wants to talk to them can call (281) 364-7888.
