It was good to see everyone and I want to thank Hemibee for having us out to Outlaw Trax. Strider had posted a while back about going to the Sam Houston National Forest for some single track fun http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10766, since no one had the permit Hemibee had us come over to OT.
Here we are for the group shot..
{from left to right}
Strider, Jeff, Tourmeister, Mopower, Hemibee, and me dbdolan in the front. James Cain was also there but he bugged out to get a burger after the first lap, sorry James you missed picture time.

It was a great hot day of riding, I polished off 2 x 64oz. of gatorade in my camel back:drool: thanks for having me out. Oh also I want to thank Hemibee for picking up my broken off turn signal that snapped off after all the jumping.

Wow, great pics Bryan. There's one I could do without, though.

Thanks for taking the lead on this trip, Hemibee - made a world of difference in getting this set up & going. Thanks, thanks, thanks again!!

Thanks to everyone for coming out, made it a great day. Alex (Mopower) needs to retune his definition of "laid back kinda ride", but it was a great day at a great pace.

Outlaw Trax is GREAT - Perfect for everyone from total rookie to seasoned vet - I'm looking forward to my next chance to go, and get on some of the more techical stuff.

Great riding everybody!!!

:bigokay: Man looks like you all had a great afternoon run too. I did not have the memory card in my camera so all i got was the last shots the internal memory could hold.:-(

I am looking forward to going back to OT after I get knobs for tires, the Michelin SIRAC got me thru the easy stuff but I was slow and skidish.:eek2:

I too had a blast on the ride. Thanks to STrider getting this started. I would like to thank our tour guide for the first loop, Dan or better known on KTMTalk as Medic911 or XLR8 on Texas Off-Road Network. Believe it or not James, most of those were roads :eek2: Dan guided us down. Went back out there this morning and had Kyle on his 50 out in most of the stuff we rode on the first loop. He had the 50 flying down some of the sections but it started to plow in the sandy corners.

I was looking forward to the pie picture  but I guess I'll have to settle for the calling of the cows................ :hail:

Get you those knobbies and your pig can fly like Bryans. I telling a couple of riders this morning about y'all and the KLR's. First question from them was, "Out here?" followed by "What were y'all drinking?" You should have seen the look on their faces when I told them about y'all flying the tabletops. Never did tell 'em y'all didn't fly the entire tabletop. :lol2:

For today's ride Alex took his TT-R out to chase Kyle around on it. Was a little slower pace today in the big trails with the TT-R doing the leading.

Its kinda hard to keep a laid back pace when you have a quad on your tail! Everytime I would speed up he was right back on me! I thought I did allright considering I have limited experience leading groups.

If you want an easier pace I'll let my little brother lead us around the property. No telling where we would end up but it would be a easier pace.

Who had the Honda (first pic)? Which model?

(I'm getting more and more interested in this off road concept - it's a slippery slope)

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/dbdolan/Outlaw%20Trax%208-5-06/OutlawTrax8-5-06013.jpg

I've heard of this place. So how long is a lap? It's getting harder to find good trails anymore.

'es mine. 2001 XR650R. I picked it up about a month ago. There's a handful of guys on here that have 'em, and a handful more that list 'em in their "Top Five (http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11193)" There's probably a reason for that.

This was my virgin trip with it, and as you can see from the pics, I had a great time.

I've not ridden off road, save for following scratch down the occasional ill-planned gravel "connector" routes :biggun: , in more than three years, and I managed to not embarrass myself too terribly on this ride. (any reports of a rear-brake-on-grass-induced low-side are severely exaggerated). This speaks volumes to either

A. the inherent "rideability" of the bike; or
B. My ability.

I'd bet on A.

Without going into specifics, this thing is just a blast to ride. Awesome low end power, and top end I'll likely never use. (A friend registered near 100 mph on his GPS on one). It is heavy, and sometimes is quite a handful in tight stuff. In soft stuff the front end tends to "push".

It is kick-start only - It's not really a huge deal, I've got the cold-start down to one or two kicks - hot starting can be a bit finicky, but there's probably some technique to that I could get better at, and I think there may be a jetting tweak that could solve it altogether.

Post up if you have more questions - the experts here can tell you lots more about it than I can.

I've heard of this place. So how long is a lap? It's getting harder to find good trails anymore.

Without trying to sound like a smartaXX, as long as you want it to be. The current main loop without any of the spurs or other add ons is approx. 20 miles. We now have an additional 400 acres for new trails toward the back of the property that will offer some really exciting sections to the current trails. In addition to the current main loop we also have a blue loop that is beginner/quad friendly, an old school unprepped MX track, a short dirt drag strip, Kid's MX track, Kid's Hare Scramble trail (which is a good warm up trail) and several short ranch/fire roads. Depending what route you take or how you set up the loop/lap you could easily make a 30 to 40 mile lap using the spurs, roads and all the trails. The trails run from bar banging clutch frying tight twisties to WAO dirt roads with a couple of grass sections that can test your engine braking skills. The trails use several drops into the creek beds and a couple of them appear dern near straight down with immediate climbs back out along with a couple of surprising hill climbs (tank dams) not expected in the area.

If anyone would like to tour the property, this can be arranged by contacting the owner for a truck tour of most of the property. If you would like to get first hand experience on the trails, any member of Outlaw Trax can arrange to have you out as a guest to ride the trails.

There is two memberships available at Outlaw Trax. The first is an Outlaw Trax membership and the second is a MSRA (Montgomery Sports Riders Association) membership. The Outlaw members pay full price annual member dues and have no further obligations. MSRA pays a reduced rate annual membership with a few obilgations. MSRA maintains the trails/property and is responsible for the construction of new trails. Currently there is another group that is supposed to be maintaining the camp grounds, pavilion and restroom facilities but it looks like MSRA will be taking that over again when the current membership year ends. MSRA members are also responsible for working one day (or one duty) at the STORM Hare Scramble hosted by the club. MSRA also will host one or more family fun days at the property. One of the events is usually the annual Boar Run. The Boar Run is usually open to only MSRA and Outlaw Trax members but this years event will be open to non-members as well, providing the weather will cooperate with us. We also try to have a get together each year at the Houston SX with our own pit party and cook-out. We are all about Family Friendly Dirt Bike Fun.

For more Outlaw Trax info check out this website http://www.outlawtrax.com/ and for more MSRA information checkout http://www.msra-cycle.org/

Here is a photo of an old map of the trails on the property. Since this was done we have increased the kids section which is in the lower right corner and have added a grass track in the upper middle section but it will show how the trails are laid out with the fire roads and the sections mix with one another for making some very interested loops.
http://img451.imageshack.us/img451/2791/outlawgpsmapwx4.jpg

Green - Drag Strip
Purple - Old School MX Track (approx 1 mile)
Blue - Beginner / ATV friendly trails
Brown - Fire Roads
Red - Main Loop
Yellow - Kid's MX Track
Not Shown - Short cuts, Spurs and Kid's Hare Scramle Trails

Hope this helps. If I can answer any additional questions or if you would like the chance to ride the property, let me know and I will see what I can arrange. For anyone interested in meeting some of the members, we will be holding our August monthly meeting at Fuddruckers in the Woodlands tomorrow night (Tuesday August 8, 2006 at 7:00 pm) and our September meeting will be held in the Tomball/Cypress/Northwest Houston area the second Tuesday of the month. The September location hasn't been sent out as of this time so I would only be guessing if I said where it would be held.

Thanks! Sounds like a great bike. Certainly looks great! I've been looking around for something "for the kids" ... ahem ... of course I would have to get something to properly supervise their escapades. Right now it's something I want to do but am also having to weigh opposing factors including
1. bikes plus trailer equals storage challenge
2. football plus baseball equals available time challenges
3. three bikes and a trailer, even used, is a financial challenge.

I can swing the third challenge and raid my "new car" savings fund if i can crack the first two. So I'm slipping down the slope now, doing some research. I'll keep you posted!

Dave.
