Walsenburg CO to Fort Carson CO?

Anyone know any scenic/fun roads between these two points? Heading up to FT Carson for a conference and will take the Loop 12 diversion but need something to avoid the I25 slab the rest of the way if possible. SR 67 looked interesting but found out it's not paved throughout the portion I wanted to ride. Any tips appreciated. After the conference I am practically touring the entire state of Colorado South of I70 hitting all of my favorites roads. Guess this will be the last long distance fling of the year.

I dont know where Ft Carson is , But 69 out of Walsenburg is a good drive , not technicle but very little traffic, watch out for the elk. 9 is also light traffic .50 and 24 are heavy traffic . 82 thru Aspen is bumper to bumper with AH 's that cant drive , I will never do that again . A few miles north of the 50 and 9 junction there is a paved road to Cripple Creek. SEYA

Fort Carson is in Colorado Springs. Thinking I'll take 165 to 96 to 69 to 50 then over to 115 up to Fort Carson. After the conference will be heading to other parts West so appreciate the tips on traffic etc. Unfortunately I am planning on using 82 over to Carbondale to pick up 133 so guess I will get to meet the AH's first hand. ;-)
