What:
This is a narrow, bumpy, very twisty asphalt road that traverses said creek a half dozen times. It has some gravel, loose cattle and cattle guards. you certainly wouldn't want to go there after heavy rain. The scenery is very nice as sheer cliffs line the sides. This road is every bit as technical as LCR with very little traffic. Some of the cattleguards could be capable of denting a wheel if taken too fast. Here is a video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7521514075050708639&hl=en) going east from 1174 towards 1431. This is a shortcut between those two roads (if you like that kind of shortcut :rider: ).

Where:
To get there, take 1431 west about 8 miles from Lago Vista and look for the turn off marker on the right side. If you are heading towards fm1431 on fm 1174 from Bertram or Oatmeal look for CR328 a couple miles past 328A on the left hand side of the road

Designation CR328

I agree, this is one of my favorites for being close in to Austin. Be nice while your out there, livestock and neighbors are often on the road. It is a very scenic ride, and a nice contrast if you've been doing triple digits on 1431 for a bit.

Everytime I pass someone I get a wave back, and they always move to give me plenty of room.

It's actually kind of fun after some rain too. Just don't go over the low water crossings when they are going fast, but less than a foot (where you can see the bottom well) is fine. Since the water seldom comes over them there is no moss to be slippery. But watch the gravel and the fresh cow pies.

Thanks for posting this! I've heard mention of Cow Creek Road, but have never ridden it. I love those little sort-of-paved county roads. :thumb:

I was riding it a couple of years back and met a herd of Longhorns , I stopped and let them have the rightofway , since they had a few pounds on me . One of the best short rides in Texas . SEYA

Rode 1174 last weekend from Bertram down to 1431 and hit the hills right as the sun was coming up behind me and the valley was still in the shadows...awesome sight.
I went the other way on 1174 a couple of weekends ago, north out of Bertram onto 1174 until I hit county road 207 which goes to Lampasas. Nice little one lane county road with no stripe and no traffic, again hit it early at about 7:30 on a Sunday morning. Beautiful views and no stops all the way 183.
