I don't see the option for a Standard?
Not quite a cruiser, not quite a sportbike...
I will RIDE anything, but I've OWNED a sportbike and a standard.
My ZR-7S was considered a standard, as are the Bonnevilles (the T100, which I LOOOOOOOOOOVE).
We have several cruiser riders, they just need to speak up, hehe.

Currently own one sport bike (SV650S), one touring bike GL1100A GoldWing, one DP bike 200cc street or dirt, one dirt bike (a Chinese TTR clone), one race mini motard (KX80), one XR150 mad dawg class flat tracker, and I'm working on another XR100 mini road racer. Not a cruiser in the bunch. I'm not really a cruiser guy, but appreciate a good tourer which some cruisers are (Road King for instance).
My roots are in performance (racing) motorcycles so I voted sport, but I've been a long haul tourer for many years. I love riding out west and exploring new country.

Motard = dirt bike with 17s and street rubber, big front disc, and street/sport tuned suspension. It's racing on combinations of road racing and dirt and the street bikes are styled after the race bikes.

To go a little further, it started out as Super Moto in Kalifornie but never really caught on. It really took off in france and started growing across Europe before coming back to the US as Super Motard. The sport has been pretty much dominated by the Euro dirt bikes but is starting to gain more support from the rice burning dirt bike factories which will help it grow. The AMA got involved with the sport and made a class that the rice burners could compete in and this is probably the thing that really got it going here in the US and will lead to more growth.

+1 on that. Two guys here at work have gotten new bikes within the past two or three weeks (not counting me). One traded a Honda Sabre for an '07 H-D Heritage Softail Classic and the other traded a Vulcan 800 for a Vulcan 1600 Classic. In both cases, I admired their new bikes. In both cases I told them, "It's not anything I would want, but I can certainly appreciate it for what it is." Their feelings about my new Dakar were pretty much the same.
I ribbed the Harley guy about moving down from a Honda, but he knew it was all in good fun. He laughed when I told him that I could never own a Harley because I would rather ride than polish. He looked at the dust and dirt on my Dakar and said, "Yeah, I can see that." Then he joined in the Harley bashing and commented that he hadn't considered the cost of having to get all the Harley gear when he changed bikes - now he needs H-D shirts, a H-D jacket, H-D chaps, H-D patches and decals for everything he owns, a Harley doo rag, ..., the works.
So just consider any snide cruiser remarks as good natured in-family teasing. We love ya'.

When in college, a buddy and I rode across Texas with shotguns in the old style soft case strapped to the bike. Looked like something out of the old west. Never had any problems though. He attached his to his front fork somehow. I had mine running along the seat front to back. With the front of it wedged between the tank and the Vetter fairing.
Shotgun shells were in the bag with my clothes on the back seat.

I voted ST, but most people call it a sport bike. (its a VFR800 so take your pick)
I've never had a problem with people on any bike. I've got quite a few friends with cruisers (all suzuki strangely enough) and we have a great time discussing our rides to work and general motorcycle stuff.
got a couple friends on "sport" bikes (if you call a EX500R and a SV650S sport bikes) been on rides with all of them and enjoyed everyone.
the cruiser run was much slower and on that road I was a little annoyed, but had a good time none-the-less.

I don't think cruiser+ATGATT looks funny. I think anybike+tshirt+flipflops looks funny. Funny, as in "natural selection in full effect and it's just a matter of time".
When I see somebody geared up I think "that person enjoys having skin on the outside of their body". When I see somebody's gf geared up I think "that person enjoys having skin on the outside of his gf's body". I think it respectful of one's pillion to encourage them to ATGATT.
Maybe this means I'm getting old. Or maybe it means that I've skidded across pavement before.

It sure has been an adventure in trying to get it restored!!! :) I have heard from the various members of a BSA club out in Southern California that I with the correct tires, I can take it off the road and on the pavement. Does that make it one of the original dual purpose bikes?

Sounds like a pretty good deal. All the coffee and donuts you can wolf down before a MC ride. I would think you could easily over do that...
Of course, at least you get to go on a MC ride at least once a month.

I'm a total sport and off-roader. Ever since I bought the gsxr1k my yz125 never sees the dirt. It's a cryin shame too b/c dirt is really awesome riding! Guess after the holidays I'll make a trip to Lake Murray... That's an ok place to get dirty.

'79 Suzuki GS 850 & a (new to me) 2000 Guzzi Quota. It would seem that I enjoy maintaining motorcycles......maybe enjoy isn't the word, but I do a lot of it anyway.

I've added a ST1300 to the stable.
seems most people on the crotch rockets call it a touring bike
Seems the guys on the GoldWings and HDs call it a SportTouring bike
Insurance says its a Touring bike ;)
I say is mine :rider:

I for one was surprised by the poll results to date until I thoughjt about it. While sport touring bikes represent a very small part of the U S market, ST riders tened to cover lots of miles and consequently are always seeking ways to improve the riding experience and share ideas. Of course the same can be said of touring bike riders/owners.

yamaha vstar 1300 cruiser. I shopped and researched on the net and talked to anyone I found on a bike. Only been riding since oct. 2006.Had a yamaha 750 in the 1980s though ( chain drive, kick start , bananna seat etc.). This time I wanted to do it right- MSF cours- get a license and insurance- riding gear etc.
