My dad is required to take yearly stress tests for his job and this year he didn't do so well. A trip to the heart doctor and quite a few tests yesterday confirmed that there is significant blockage. He is scheduled to have anywhere from single to quadruple bypass surgery this afternoon.

I'll be travelling home to Illinois some time in the next few days to be with him and my step-mom while he is recovering.

His name is Roger and he had is 53rd birthday last weekend.

Thanks all....

Steve

Ill say a prayer for you and your Dad and family. Im familiar with where your head is right now, Ive been through this 3 times with my Dad. Hang in there, let me know if theres anything you need help with, even if its just an ear to listen. (PS, My dads still kickin after 3 seperate open hearts. Multiple bypasses and two valve replacements)

Here's hoping everything goes well.

I'm sure the physical therapists will have him up and walking VERY shortly after the SUCCESSFUL operation.

It's a shame he has to go through this at such a young age, but that's probably a good thing too. I've known many men who have been through this and go on with their normal activities soon after surgery.

God's speed.

Any news on how the surgery went?

The surgery went well. He ended up having a triple bypass and is feeling well except all of the tubes that are stuck all over the place. I'll be heading up there to help out around the house sometime in the middle of next week.

Thanks for all the positive thoughts.

Glad your dad's surgery went well. My 22 yr old son went through aortic valve replacement surgery almost a year ago, and it was the most emotionally exhaustive experience I've ever had in my life.

Please don't let him over do things at first. He'll feel so much better, that he'll think he's capable of doing anything and everything. My son did that, and ended up in the hospital one week after being released.

Just be there for him, he'll probably "attach" himself to one person - need that person around all of the time.

Again, I'm very happy for you, your dad, and the rest of your family that everything is going so well. :sun:

So the old man is heading home today. I'm going to try to make it up there for a week or so, but I'm not 100% sure yet.

Glad to hear things went well. Tell him we'd all like to visit, but that might be a bit much...LOL
