This memorial wall was installed @ the "Nut House" (Engine 214 / Ladder 111 in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn) on the first anniversary of the attacks. It was designed and built by members of the firehouse and the surrounding community.

Every year they have a ceremony and ring a memorial bell for each of the five men from their house that was lost. I was there on the first anniversary to support my step father and his 'brothers'.

Too bad this is what it takes to get them into dress uniform... ;-)

To us, he's dad. My father passed away when we were kids (and we're well aware that my mother almost became a widow twice on 9/11), and Kenny quickly became the father figure we wanted and needed. He's been with us for 15+ years now. He's dad - even down to the teenage rebellion we forced on him!

I completely understand.
I've been remarried for 21 years now and my wife and I parent 4 children.
There has never been an emphasis on "step" anywhere. If I'm ill, they all come running. For two of them, I am called "Don" when present but "Dad" when I am not there. It does warm my heart.

P.S. You clean up nice. :-P

LOL! Yeah, every now and then I try to look like chic instead of just a biker. The purple sunglasses were pretty cool too, but I broke them...
