gotdurt

This post is for those of you interested in dual sports, adventure touring, or just wandering who this "gotdurt" guy is that keeps popping-up here and there.
I was born and raised in Huntsville, Texas, and have been riding bikes since '94. My obsession began with a basket case '81 Suzuki GS650G, which I bought for $50 while I was in college. I put it together, got it running, and rode it for 2 years, 23K miles as my main mode of transportation. Since that bike I've had 8 others, and it won't stop there.
I moved with my wife, Dawn, to Mesa Arizona in 2000 just for kicks'n'giggles. During the three year vacation in AZ, I spent nearly all of my weekends exploring the fascinating state and surrounding areas by motorcycle, foot, mountain bike and 4WD. Nearly 80% off Arizona is some sort of government property, which is accessed by a web of unimproved dirt roads and jeep trails, and old mining trails. One can literally start at one corner of the state, and travel to the opposite corner on dirt (or rocks!), only crossing pavement occasionally.
I began getting pressure to move back to Texas, so we did late last summer, but no further east than Austin!
I'm just now getting back on a bike after about a 1-1/2 year hiatus, after shattering my right wrist (yes, the go-wrist) on an all dirt trip from Phoenix to L.A. on my beloved XR650L (which I sold before we moved).

I've regained about 50% usage of my wrist, and decided it's time to slow down, as I'm apparently not made of rubber anymore. This time I went for something much more street oriented, and came across an '88 NX650. These share the same bullet proof engine as their younger XRL cousins, which I'm already intimately familiar with. Since "off-road" in Texas means graded dirt, I think an XRL is a bit over-kill, but the NX should do nicely....
