Ok, I'll attempt my first authored ride report writeup since I had an interesting weekend on my bike...
Well this saga begins with the second cancllation of my ERC. Supposedly taking place on this past satrurday, since I had it free, I decided to take a friend up on his offer to go cruise to Wild West Honda and drool at the toys they have there (we both bleed green). So, cruise over to his house to meet him, he elected me "leader" so we took some construction laden roads on 1093 up to Grand Parkway. He rides a 2002 KLR 650 by the way. So we're just puttin along on an increasingly hot day, after getting the most fun out of the turns in that area, (very limited undeveloped subdivision streets) time to head north on Grand Parkway and go to Wild West.
Me being the leader I arrived at the light to turn on 99 (Grand Parkway), waited for traffic, I turn, and my friend was right behind me. I get down the road and notice he's not there. Perhaps the light changed and cars were holding him up, so I slowed down, and pulled over. 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3, then 5. Hmmm, he was right behind me, we both knew the route. So I double back only to find his bike on the curb with his trusty took kit out! When I enquired about what happened, he tore off his shifter peg from the downshift at that light! Right clean off, and he doesn't kick the **** out of the downshifts either. Guess it hit the right point to break it asunder. So how do you drive a bike with no shifter peg back to home base? Handy dandy pair of vice grips! Clamped them onto the rod, tightened it as much as it would go, and wala, makeshift shifter peg! May not be pretty but it worked! So ended my friends excursion, so he sends me on to Wild West, order him his part (out of stock) and continue on my day.
Grab a quick shake at Sonic on Mason rd. for a late lunch, head back out to 1093, take that to Highway 6, then I decide to go run memorial and see what that's about. Not bad, I have been on better, but that's the best that I know of on the west side, so I ran it twice, back and front! Stop home to acquire my pool stick as I got the pool hall call from a friend while out. By now it's dinnertime so on the way to meetup, swing by my old stomping grounds of gessner and westheimer to grab some wings, then, hey we're near memorial again, might as well get the most turning experience, so I took my final dusk run on memorial that night out to the galleria area. With the sun at my back, at times making me wince in my mirrors, it had a nice sunset lighting for that route. Then the miracle happened...cell phone rings, it's the place I was supposed to take my ERC earlier that day, they asked if I wanted to do it sunday at 1. So eager as I was, I agreed, and that was cool because it was just me, the instructor and one other guy, so we got a lot of one on one tutdoring. (I'll do an ERC write up in case anyone wants to know what that is all about).
So what was supposed to be a two kawi rider day on saturday, wound up doing it solo for the most part, but hey, got some good turn experience to take to my class and I wound up beating my friend whom I normally loose to in pool later that night! :chug: My final cruise that night was a late, late night (sober) jaunt on I10 west from 610 back home. Boy if that freeway could be that barren when I drive on from work!! Oh well, a fun day anyway even running around solo.
