I vote SV650S :thumb: ..... I love mine.
If you have to choose only one; go with versatility. SV650S.

Another vote for the SV650S.
Great motor.
Tons of aftermarket stuff.
Great all-around bike.

My vote went for the 919. It's just a really enjoyable street bike with a bit of uniqueness(that is, you don't see them everywhere you turn). For a do it all bike, I'd choose the YZF600R or the SV650S...in that order.

I too voted for the 919. but for a more all around bike, John's got it right with the Yammi or the SVs those fairings are going to make all the difference in the world when its not summer.

I like the GS500F. cheapest to get into, and out of it you change your mind .... which you will. SV650 has too much angle for me --- weight is forward and on arms. the rest of the bikes are plus $7000. too much $$$ for a mistake. Best suggestion, get your M license, find a place to rent or test drive used ones - then pick

My vote goes to the SV650 standard, not the S. You might find that the sit-up riding position makes for an easier and more natural transition from your Reflex. There are some nice aftermarket quarter fairings you could mount if you felt that you need more wind protection.

I voted for the SV650, but you've got to go with what makes your heart race.

You're coming from a scooter with good wind protection, places to put things, and a more up right position.
Based on the above some of your selections may not give the comfort or wind protection you may want for long rides. That being said I'd look at the Triumph Scrambler or Bonneville. Plus with the Bonnevile have the the ability to add bags and a screen. Maybe the smaller Ducati Multistrada over the monster. If not one of these then the SV650 standard.
Have fun

Well originally I used to ride Kawazakis 750's So I am not really a new rider.
The scooter does have this fairing and stand up position indeed.
Yes the 919/599 is also a standard seat... windsheilds and saddle bags can be adapted to most ride :)
but I appreciate your points...

Another vote for the SV. You didn't mention what your riding needs are (commuting, touring, weekend jaunts thru the twisties, two-up riding, etc.), but the SV has lots of torque for a bike of that size (great for commuting) and enough horsepower to hold its own on the open road. Some of the others listed might be expensive to maintain and difficult to find parts for. Whatever you get, enjoy it! :rider:

The 599 is not available for 2007, but they have one at Maxim in Plano.
You probably already knew that, too.

BMW 800
I would have voted the 919, but honda continues to overprice the poor thing.
** question though, your options range from a GS500 to a near literbike in the 919 or 900cc Scrambler? If you're ready for a 919, you'll soon outgrow a GS500. If you think you need a GS500, a 919 may be too much bike for you.
just my 2cents...:)
Good luck!

I noticed the same, but I'd not worry about the Scrambler "outperforming" the GS. I went with the SV, for all-round real world utility that's not quickly outgrown. My second choice would be the Yamaha, I only place it second because I'm not overly fond of I-4s.
I also think you may be artificially limiting your choices by looking largely at "beginner" bikes. With previous bike and current scooter experience, you may be more capable than you think. And there's good deals to be had right here, right now on a Strom, a Warrior, and a Sprint, all of which are fine bikes.
Of course, you gotta do what's right for you, no amount of polling, practicality, or suggesting means diddly when you find the one that moves you.
Good luck, have fun, let us know what happens.

I voted for the new Monster 695. Test ride was way fun. You can check it out Sat. for a test ride at AMS Dallas. Bring a warm jacket but highs will be in 50's.
Ditto Squidward's comments on the Yami YZF 600. Great all round bike w/ full fairing for some weather protection. You can find them at a good price too. They should have added a centerstand, but what do I know.....

I'm going to have to suggest that the Ninja 650r be given some consideration. Same class as the SV with similar performance and more upright ergos. Full fairings to give some wind protection, etc. :trust:

I Appreciate everyone comments and suggestion;
yes its been a while since I have shifted a ride, and I do enjoy the scooter for whats its worth..
Yes I am quite ready for something more.. the question being partly a budget decision, I put the other brands because of the 919 model from Honda, being overpriced has been what has made me look for other brands in similar models and compare quality/price..
I am not looking for a crutch (poll) to make the decision, I was hoping (and maybe I should of added this in the original posting) that I was looking fro good/bad inputs from various riders.
My new ride (once I have made the final decision) will mostly use it for daily driving to work, 80% of it being highway, I am not a racer, I dint intend to go to the track with it, wont be racing or popping wheelies anytime in this lifetime. (if you wonder why, see this posting about me http://forum.motorcycle-usa.com/default.aspx?f=19&m=277843.
Yes I have considered the GS500 thru the ducatti Monster, a wide variety of rides, input from people that use them, is (to me) important.. and many have provided great information forth so far.
I am running this poll until Jan 1rst, hoping to get the most votes possible, and I already have a pretty good idea which way I will be going, but keep the info coming...good or bad.. its the only way to stay informed and make a proper decision.
PS: the scooter was a bad call, I did it uninformed, and now I am trying to replace it... its a great ride, just not enough for what I need to do.

It's obvious from your sig line which bikes you're favoring. I voted for the SV, but think you would be happier with a DL650 V-Strom. I really like mine. I bought it a year ago, after being bikeless for about 15 years. It's got plenty of power (torque), it's comfy (upright seating position), handles extremely well and is fun to ride. It's got the same engine as the SV, just geared a little different. :rider:

well see that is what I call attentive...
Yes I favor either the GS or the 599, but I have tried all listed above, and really from more experienced riders, whould recommend from experience with them... trying to get as informed as I can before buying another.
of course honda called me yesterday trying to get me to buy the 599 or 919..lol now offering 5.9% for 48 months....

Have you tried out the Stroms? They're a pretty good alternative to the SVs with more comfort and more room (and bigger tanks, I think).
Are you buying used or new? If new, I would go for the SV. If used, the 919.
Or a Hayabusa.

+1 on the Strom for the versatility and ergonomics. You should test ride the Wee (650) and the 1K before you count them out.

Any wish list of mine has Ducati at the top, Moto-Guzzi second and BMW third. All the rest are also-rans.
There was no selection available for "None of the above".
I voted for the BMW F800S, mainly because I want to hear your thoughts on it long term.
It is the newest platform on the list (okay, the Duc 695 is a new motor, but that bike is well proven). It is a BMW and according to their rep has been tested thoroughly and will run 100K miles no problem, but I want to see it.
Bang for buck would be an SV.

Used, whatever it is. Let someone else pay the initial depreciation.
YZF600R is a fantastic all-arounder. It's been around a long time and there is decent support for it. Comfy, fast, fun, versatile, economical, due to be sainted...

I wanted to thank you all that entertained my little poll and post topic, Thank you for all the inputs, and comments, it was very educational, very to the point.
Just wanted to let you know that the search ended yesterday;
As P-Ratty said (as others) buy something you need, buy it used.
So I got myself a 1998 GS500E. I know I will upgrade later to something more. But for the time being, this will be the ride I will enjoy.
Thank you to all and Merry Holiday and Happy New Year, or as we Say it in my country of origin;
Joyeuses Fêtes, et Meilleur Voeux pour la Nouvelle Annee.
PS: Ill get pictures as soon as I pick it up. Cheers :rider:

You forgot the Suzuki Bandit....
Of the bikes you mentioned I'd go with a SV650 but that is only because I have one.
I don't have a clue what you are looking for in a bike so a little more info from you would be helpful to us in helping you choose one.

Ninja 650 over the SV.
Here's the one I recently sold. It was a great bike, but I needed something for the dirt and street.

I like the honda 919 cool bike. But the Kaw zrx1200 is the naked bike of choice for me. For the do it all bike I like my nighthawk 750 to bad they stopped making the 750.
