What:
Second Annual TWT event! Last year's was such a success that we decided to do it again! We will be celebrating the 12 successful Pie Runs of 2006.

A block of 15 rooms are reserved under William Zimmerman/Two Wheeled Texans at a discounted rate of $59! Reservations need to made on your own.

The catering will be BBQ (same as last year):
2 meats (brisket/sausage), 3 veggies, bread, pickles, peppers, onions, tea, and sauce. They have a selection of 9 different pies! The cost covers your dinner and the pie of your choice from those available! We will need to know how many adults and children will be attending, so please list that in your post. Please also list your first and second preference for pie from this list. We had A LOT of pie left over last year, so we're going to reduce the overall number of pies to reduce the leftovers and prevent pie neglect (those rare instances where a pie only has a single slice missing...sad really)

Apple
Boston Cream
Cherry
Chocolate Meringue
Coconut Meringue
Lemon Meringue
Pecan
Pumpkin
Millionaire Pie

Alcohol: BYOB. You are welcome to bring your own alcohol, dunkenness and rowdiness will not be tolerated!

I'm a sucker for pumpkin. Chocolate would be choice #2.

Not staying in the hotel. I'll probably not be there 'till 1am since I have a class that weekend, but I can help to properly dispose of some pie.

We will be celebrating the 12 successful Pie Runs of 2006.
Ahem, yes, well, if we assume that this is a Pie Event and that it will be sucessful, then this is true, but it has not happened yet so you can't really celebrate it, notwithstanding that there were 4 Pie Runs in October rather than one, therefore bringing the celebration total to 14, or 15 if you assume the final Pie Run can be celebrated coincident with this event. Your mileage may vary. Do not bend, fold, spindle, or mutilate.

Now, I signed up for a room in the assigned hotel block, sent the PayPal and would now like to specify Boston Cream Pie and Cherry Pie as a back-up in case one of the pies gets neglected, assuming, of course, that I have room after the main meal, but I can wait a bit anyway until some digests and then get some or more, not to mention that it would still be good for breakfast on Sunday, and... :-P

If we have some S-Video cables that we can route to a projector or a TV/monitor of some sort, I'll bring my laptop so we can watch pretty much anything.

No no no. Last year we watched Dust to Glory (a DVD movie) and some of the kids watched kids movies on my laptop.

So, forget the question, I will be bringing what motorcycle movies I have - Dust to Glory, On any Sunday, Faster, Moto GP 2005, etc. plus some kids DVD movies - Lady and the Tramp, Finding Nemo, etc.

I'll bring the same old laptop, so the software that we put on it last year will still be there...

Is anyone planning to do a Pie Run photo thingie?

Elzi - I made the *.pps file on a PC, and we tried playing it on a mac and no-go. He had to do some upgrade on the spot, the hotel didn't have wireless, etc. We found a Cat5 cable and got him plugged into the wall and it all worked out in the long run.

Glad it's worked out for this season's, too.

I've found more convertability mac-->PC than PC--->mac. And by far, the mac allows for greater creativity for audio and visual projects than PC. But there is some decent software for doing slideshows on PC.
I'll pm you when we upload the slideshow for CanyonRun 2006. It'll whet your appetite for June 2007

Couple of needs:

1. I need someone to collect pictures and get them to AustinTrophy or put a slideshow together (if we would like to see something like that)
2. I need someone to take the Audio/Visual role. It would be most helpful if that person could contact the hotel, find out what they have available and then let us know what will be needed (if he/she doesn't have a piece of equipment available).

I tried to get myself working on the "Upcoming" forum and moving the after-effects to the Ride Report forum so that the pics will be easier to get to. I didn't get very far, though.

Sure thing, Chuck. Our departure time will be the same this year, but it will be only me riding down. Jen's foot is still healing up and she can't shift yet. Well, that don't matter 'cause the Zimmermanmans don't have 'Stroms either. Now, WC has his Zuk SV1000. You gonna ride your R6 or anodder one?

I was planning to leave about 10:30 or so. I have a route using FM157 but I think we probably should avoid that one, so I'll have it figured out before Saturday morning - FM56 from Whitney to Valley Mills is good, except for the chicken farms (pray that the wind is in the right direction). ;-)

How about meeting at our old standby Minyards at I20 & Green Oaks in Arlington around 10-10:29 and leave about 10:30?

I might join you two for the ride part-way there. Then return on some back roads.
Why don't you just join us and spend the evening in CS?

I intend to try this route on the way down:

US287 to Mansfield
FM157 thru Mansfield (shortcut is under construction)
FM157 thru Venus to Maypearl (careful on this section - more construction)
FM66 to Itasca
FM934 to FM933
FM933 to Whitney
FM22 to FM56
FM56 to Valley Mills
a short leg on SH6 to SH317
SH317 thru McGregor & thru Moody
FM1237 east to I35
I35 to 3rd Street (SH290) exit in Temple...
jog over to 1st to the Zim mansion...

I think WC took SH53 to FM485 to SH6 to get to CS last year...

The return trip from Temple will be a little better:

SH53 west
FM36 to Gatesville
FM182 to FM219
FM219 to FM1238
FM1238 to Iredell
FM144 to FM203

I'm hoping it's not too cold either, Russ. Today, with the wind, was bad. :brainsnap I can't wait to get a GPS ;-)

I may jog off at some point to either go visit or go adventuring (ride 'n camp).
The gusting winds nixed riding today; I'd rather ride in snow than these winds. The bike would have taken off in flight.

My GPS has Topo maps that are WAY out of date - several major roads in the area that have been there for years are just a blank area. The routes listed above were mainly from The Roads of Texas and previous trips in the area. I then put the waypoints into the GPS for reference.

URGENT NEED:

We are in need of a projector, laptop and speakers in order to watch videos. Does anyone have something that will work? The hotel has an 8ft screen we can use, but that's it. Last year, HiSPL did all the A/V, but he's out of town this year.

Hmmm...

I have an old laptop, but no DVD player  I might be able to snag my Dad's laptop as his is much nicer than mine ;-) We would still need something like a stereo receiver/amp to feed the sound into for driving the speakers. I can't help with the projector :ponder:

Called the hotel again and they have a 27" TV on a cart that we can use. It has (according to them) a coax input but they also have the RF modulator to hook up standard RCA feeds to it. It won't be as nice as the large screen last year, but it'll do.

(it's on the NW corner, close to the "D")

One thing I didn't put into the equation is a stop for lunch. Do we want to push back the departure time to 10:00 so that we will have a chance to stop at the DQ in Valley Mills or something like that?

That would give us 4 hours to get to WC's in Temple - I remember that I left late last year but I don't remember HOW late and got there about 1:45.

I just hope that the Zimmermanmanman's won't leave for CS without us... :trust:

Rich asked for a GPS file for the route. Here is one for the trip down and another for the trip back. It is mainly waypoints that I double checked with The Roads of Texas because by USA Topo Maps from Garmin is woefully out-of-date - FM51 is not marked correctly and they don't have the SH36 bypass around Gatesville, not to mention Green Oaks Blvd in Arlington.

There is no update on Garmin's site. I need to email and find out what the deal is - this map set must be more than 15 years old...

Just because I learned this in my Skywarn class... it's not a tornado unless it DOES touch down, so it's redundant to say that a tornado touched down. A tornado that does NOT touch down is merely a funnel cloud.

And that concludes our weather trivia lesson for tonight.
