Just curious if it's commonplace for a dealer to deliver a bike to your home? The bike I'm getting is down in Pasadena and I'm up here in Spring; I have a friend with a trailer willing to take me down there to pick it up, and I could rent something, but I'd be willing to pay for delivery if it's offered.

Umm...why not have the friend give you a ride down there and :eek2: you ride it back to klien?

I've thought of that also, and since the bike already has 550 miles on the clock I wouldn't have to worry about break-in issues on the freeway. Unfortunately, that's not fun if it rains Saturday (the planned pick-up date) and hauling it on an open trailer in the rain wouldn't be all that great either. Renting a small box van would be another way, but expensive at 99 cents per mile for a round-trip of almost 90 miles. Of course, the weather guessers could be wrong about the Saturday weather and it won't matter. The reason for asking is that I might have the dealer bring it a couple of days earlier (in better weather) if it could be arranged.

Some will, some won't. Just negotiate it on the front end.

heck, last new bike I bought, the dealership was five minutes from my office and the pickup day was heavy, pouring rain. The dealer called me up and chewed me out for not being there first thing in the morning to come get it...

So I rode the blue bike over to pick up the black bike, left the blue bike there for a week until the 600 miles service, rode the blue bike home and got a ride to get the black bike...

The first bike I bought from a dealer was delivered to my house via a trailer. The guy came by my house at 11pm (my request due to work)with his wife in the truck. If they want to sell the bike they will deliver it. It did not cost anything.

For that distance I would ride it back. I did that with the Triple when I picked it up from British USA and rode it back through a storm on 45. I wasn't fun but I had no other way to get it home. Unless the temps are just too low w/ freezing rain or something like that it isn't worth the hassle of having to get a trailer/van to go get it.

I rented a trailer this weekend and it was a pain, but the alternative was a much bigger pain.

+1

I spent a couple of my wrenching years in Indiana - where my wife is from. The boss DID pay me, but I spent nearly all night Christmas Eve and half of Christmas playing Santa Claus. I must have delivered at least a dozen snowmobiles each year. I even had to put ribbons and bows on a couple of the sleds and leave them in the front yards.

I was kind of hoping that the real Santa would leave me a Yamaha SRX - but alas, I guess I wasn't good enough. At the time, the SRX was Yahama's hottest sled. It was a liquid-cooled, twin-carb, 440 with expansion chambers.

The last new bike I bought, I got from Lone Star BMW Triumph in Austin.

I went to the dealer, picked it up and rode it home.

I live by the Galleria in Houston.

Oh yeah, I forgot that part...

I'm getting a slightly used '07 ZZR600, a black one (they're faster :-P). Got a pretty decent deal; the bike has 550 miles on it and was sold about a month ago. The guy wanted to upgrade to a ZX10R so he wanted to get rid of this one. Knocked a little over $1,000 off the drive-out price of the new one I was going to get originally. :trust:

BTW - the weather's starting to look better for Saturday, so a bike ride home is looking better. :rider:

nice! i've had a little seat time on an '06 ZZR...its a FUN bike! I'm sure you'll enjoy it, congrats!

btw, i'll be at home in Klein on most of the weekends between now and mid january (christmas break!), and if this mild weather repeats, i might bring the viffer from CS; if you want a riding partner or two, just let me know. :rider:

If you look like your avatar there should be no problem in them delivering it.

Yup. They gave me the best deal of all the Kawi dealers in the area when I bought my Ninja 250, and were going to make me a pretty good deal on a new one until this used one came up. Hey, I ain't driving all the way down there for nuthin'... :thumb:

Yea! What's the story behind that avatar?

Declining... I mean inquiring minds want to know.

Heh... I wish I could say that it's a picture from a typical day in the life, but it's something I grabbed (heh.. :trust:) from the sportsbybrooks.com website.

since when did 550mi on a ZZR600 make you capable of operating a ZX10? :eek2:

as long as you got a good deal it doesn't matter to you! :rider:

I wondered the same thing. I'm also curious how hard he rode this one to decide he needed a 10 instead.

My dealer delivered my brand new 1978 Kaw Z1R to my house still in the crate and I put it together. Can you imagine the legal ramifications of doing that now? The guy was pretty cool but he kinda had a small drug problem they say. Let me put it this way. He was supposed to bring it the day before but he forgot.

My roommate had a brand new R1 delivered from a dealer in Tenn. We live in Austin. He paid $400 extra for the delivery.
