While driving the other day I got to thinking about all the things that really bother me while being in the car or on the bike. I started a list of what other drivers have done and it was quite long. Some things just make me smirk and think what an idiot that person must be. Other instances really, really bother me.

The poll limit is 10 selections so I know I won't be able to list every annoyance. I know all are bad but which one really, really bugs you. Red light runners for me!

Feel free to post up your own traffic related gripes whether they are bike or cage related.

Civilian traffic enforcers
Left lane hogs
Right turn from left lane (no signal)

Old people that shouldn't be driving. Seems like you keep hearing about some old person running through a store or causing a wreck. But that doesn't bother me as bad as somone riding my.....

All the above... plus the person in the center lane on the feeder that decides his lane can turn even if it isn't marked so :miffed:

I vote left lane hogs.

People who can't park between the white lanes. You mean while moving??? Women drivers :duck: I mean both the female and male type of women drivers. Like the ones that sit in your blind spot when you are behind another vehicle instead of passing you. :miffed:

Yup, that would irritate me too. Luckily, I left them on the hood.

voted red light runners because that's pretty much a "game over" action. Very close second was Not Paying Attention

Left lane hogs
No turn signals
hanging in the blind spot or directly beside me

red-light runners should be taken out and beaten until dead, revived and the process repeated. :biggun:

The exception of course being people on bikes that can't get the signal to change for them ;)

Everything on your list is annoying. :angryfire

I voted "Red light runners and Stop sign ignorers".
Those brilliant "I'm too important to wait" jerks can get you killed faster than any other on the list...........

For the selections available I chose NOT paying attention. My biggest gripe would be the ones that keep going through the green light when an ambulance or a fire truck is sitting there with 5 hundred lights flashing and ear drum exploding loud sirens blaring trying to get across the intersection safely so they can help someone in need!:angryfire :miffed: :pound:
Ok I feal better now that I've got that off my chest.

Pretty much have to agree with all of these and add Red Light runners. Here in Dallas, I hate being the first one at a light. When your light turns green, you pretty much have to count to 10 to make sure all of the Red Light runners are through. Then you have to cross your fingers before you go.

I voted for "too slow" but I think they'd all irk me equally when they happen.

I intensely dislike the folks who go straight through an intersection in the "turn only" lanes.

In addition to the people who KNOW the lane is ending/ merging, or otherwise not available, but refuse to merge and race up as far as they can then force their way in.

And I think that when you perform some courtesy for another driver, (letting them merge, stopping short so they can exit a parking lot, etc.) and they don't wave, ramming should be perfectly legal. Required even.

And the people that speed up to pass, then get in front of me to go 5 UNDER the speed limit.

Then those folks who squeeze their way in front of me in stop & slow traffic. "Really, you think you can go faster stuck in this spot than I can?"

finally - It really bugs me that "safe following distance" means "following close enough that you can't be cutoff by the unsignaled, unlooking, whip-it-in style lane changers" I tried being a nice guy once, maintaining a safe following distance and letting people merge in front of me. I ended up back where I started.

and green bean casserole. I know its not exactly a driving problem, but that stuff is just gross. I wonder why people even make it, it always goes back where it came from entirely whole.

 :thumb:

We have two of our local TWT members in the hospital recovering from serious injuries due to someone who ran through a stop sign. It's not just their pain that's tough to see, their families have also had a rough time of it.

ROFLMAO! :lol2:

The one I forgot and it's happened several times to me is people who floor it when you try to pass them. It's as if they're trying to race or just can't stand someone being in front of them. I just don't understand people sometimes.

I will have to go with red light runners.

Last week while in a cage I was approaching a light that had already yellowed and was about to turn red. I slowed to stop as the light turned red and the jerk behind me laid on his horn wanting me to run the red for him.
As I sat waiting for the green he is giving me several single finger waves.
When the light turn green...I just sat there as he laid on the horn for about 10 seconds then drove on.

I hope I made his day.

I had to go with the headlight offenders. Being highly sensitive to light, few things get me in a rage faster than some moron driving around with his low beams aimed at the International Space Station. Unlike many drivers, I actually use my mirrors - so these idiots get behind me and flood my face with light. RAWR.

Polls where there is no possible way to choose only one answer.:-P All of the above would have been a good option.

dwi tops my list, followed by fsra – way to many of both

inattentive drivers
speeding in high density, especially ped/bicyclists
following too closely
fail to stop/yield
driving vehicles with unsafe defects
impeding traffic
inability to merge
failing to signal

After all, which is safer, counting or looking?

I'd have to say light runners.... but I'm personally of the opinion
that the Light Runner is also the speeding, traffic weaving, shoulder passing
tailgater that has decided they are special and that traffic laws and all that apply to everyone but them.

All of the above + people who see your turn signal and then speed up so you have to "get behind them" even though you were ahead of them when you activated the turn signal. This is a problem in the cage since it is underpowered. Not so much a problem on the bike :)

All the poll options are bad. I voted "not paying attention"...

but what really gets me steamed is people who throw trash out of their cars: fast food containers, soda cans, CIGARETTE BUTTS!

GRRR.

2-3 of those are just about even on the list, but I'd have to say tailgaters more than anything else, as that poses the highest danger for me that I can't do much about.

This is my first post, but I can't leave this topic alone.
Nearly two weeks ago while riding on a divided highway with two lanes in each direction.
Traffic signal turned yellow as myself and another rider were approaching. I rolled off the throttle, checked the intersection and my mirrors and then decided to pass through the intersection.
The rider behind me stopped in the right hand side of the left lane, the Honda Accord behind us drove through the intersection missing the bike stopped on the right.
I watched the entire incident in my mirrors; I slowed waiting for the other bike. In the meantime the Honda Accord passes me; the "Gentleman" driving gives me a “thumbs up” on the way by.
I am not sure if he was a "red light runner" or inattentive.
In any case he needed to be at least "slapped" to attention.

Jim

Idiots.

Which covers about 90% of people when they are in their cars. Something about 4000lbs of metal will turn even the most meek and cordial person into a rude, unthinking, self-centered, vengeful moron. I honestly can't drive more than 1 mile these days without being mortified and stupified at someone's driving. Way too many things to be able to pick just one.

Q: What agitates you the most about other drivers?

A: Their existence.

P-Ratt
12-23-2006, 11:13 AM
Wow. So many choices. I can't augment their existence, so...

I'd have to say seeing adults letting their kids wander around in the car (no seatbelt) or trying to hold an infant in their arms (no car seat) are top contenders. I think everyone should wear a seatbelt, but it's more a responsibility thing. Kids don't know better and adults do, though they may choose not to.

Uninsured drivers are up there too.

Inattentive.

Idiots.

It has to be "Not paying attention" especially cell phones. I've had several close calls on multi-lane freeways, when in fast moving heavy traffic. Especially the "Dipheads" that have the phone in thier right ear. When they see an opening on the right, they glance at thier small side mirror and whip the wheel. Gotta' watch them like a hawk!:eek2:

While sitting in traffic the other day I look over at the car on my left. The lady driving was busy chatting on her phone and her 4 or 5 year old was hanging half out the rear side window. He was in the back seat and the window was down but I don't know if he opened it or not. He slipped once almost falling out while trying to get my attention. I started honking and she looked back for a sec and then went back to talking. I kept honking and she finally told her kid to sit down and she rolled up the window. No child seat and no seat belt. Unbelievable.

Mine is the driving publics inability to understand the concept
and meaning of the word MERGE It does not mean you drive
up the ramp and then expect everyone to move or slow down
so you can enter the lane, when someone is merging onto a roadway
it is their responsibility to adapt the the traffic flow not the other
way around

Challen
12-23-2006, 09:05 PM
Since the question was "what agitates you the most?", I'll answer "Left Lane Hogs".

And what really irritates me is that they either can't see or don't care about how badly they're impeding the flow of traffic.

If someone prefers to drive slower, that's fine. But understanding that if you aren't passing people, you should move out of the left lane should be pretty simple.

What do I think is most dangerous? Pretty much everything on the list. LOL

Texas Driver's Handbook mentions this for those entering the freeway:
1. You must yield the right-of-way to vehicles already on the freeway.
2. Enter the speed change lane, stay to the right, signal left, and when the way is clear increase your speed so you can merge with the flow of traffic

The handbook mentions this for those in the right lane on the freeway:
• Adjust your speed to allow others to enter the freeway safely

How about all of the above. kinda like the jerk who decided to pass me on a double yellow in a school zone. Once again never a cop around when one was needed (but there's always one when I LEAST need them) oh well ;-)
