View Full Version : Muenster for year end ride
Myself along with some family and friend will be heading there for the Dec. 29-31st.
Having never been there I was wondering what to expect terrain wise. Is it tight woods like Sam Houston NF or more open like a motocross track. Are the trails one way? I have heard of some pretty nasty head-ons in the NF because of the two way trails.
Anyway, it sure is a long way from N. Houston but worth the weekend riding if the weather is nice.

Me and backspinn went out there yesterday and rode for 5-6 hours as I was leaving I was thinking about what an off road treasure the place is, after riding there a dozen or so times I still find great new trails every time I go, the place is just huge. Theres woods trails for all skill levels, big wide perimiter trails for beginers, big open fields for kids to learn on, some of the toughest rocky hill climbs you will ever find, and a big open deep sand river bed thats perfect for doing redneck doughnuts.
The trails are two way but the leaves are down right now so its not hard to see oncoming traffic. They have porta pottys and some nice primitive camp spots, best to call and make sure they are open that weekend just in case.
Enjoy the ride, mabey I see you out there :rider:

Muenster has it all. Tight, wide, mild and wild.
All of the trails are two-way, but this time of year it is easy to spot other riders.
We are going to try to make it out there on the 31st.

Ross and I are planning to ride that weekend. We usually ride on Saturday. We could probably do either day that weekend. T.P: we're wanting to hear stories from Baja!

I have a few to share...
I will shoot for being out there Saturday rather than Sunday.
I will post up if that changes.

I was going to head up tomorrow, however it will be sloppy soup with all the rain we had and i have no desire to wrap myself into a tree come a tree hugger!
I am trying to see if the boss will allow me to head out on Monday, at least it will have dried up a wee bit by then!
Happy new year mates!

Just got home and man what a place.
Wild wet weather on the way up but we made it. We stayed in the A OK Motel Fri and Sat night.
The riding was some what wet Sat and it was not crowded. Sunday was colder and cloudy and the place was starting to dry up.
We rode about 6 hours Sat and 5 Sunday so we got to see most of the place. We did lots of the wider 4 wheeler trails then did some of the marked off areas that had some very steep technical sections in the more remote areas.
All of us had a great time no injuries and no bikes broke down.
My chain and sprockets are toast and all of my gear is covered with mud.
Now comes the fun part... tearing down the bike to clean out the mud/sand and to pack bearings.

Well...how about this: I found out my bike does not run well under water! The trails were in great shape on Monday and it was sunny and very nice. There were plenty of puddles to be found, but not bad at all. At the end of the day Ross wanted to "knock some of the mud off" by taking a couple of passes up and down the creek. Bad idea. Apparently the heavy rain had created some deep sections in the creek and I rode right into one and lost my balance. The KLX went under, running, and gulped down a bunch of creek water. I fell backwards into the coldasawitchestit water and me and the bike started slowly settling into the quicksand. I warmed up considerably rescuing myself and the bike, which had to be towed back to the truck.
Other than that it was a great day! :lol2:

I was able to go up there for the first time not too long before the Redbull Last Man Standing. Was also the first time I had the KLR in the heavier stuff. Was very impressed with the variety and the space on the trails. Only about an hour north of me too so very handy!
