My son & I had a bad experience at Broadway Yamaha in Tyler 12/28. He picked up a nail on the nearly new rear tire of his Ducati. He picked up a tire and we took the bike to Yamaha to have the new tire put on, telling the folks there that we definitely expected to take the old tire with us.............. Returning to get the bike, the old tire is nowhere to be found. Mechanics said the approx. $200 tire just walked off. They made a show of halfheartedly looking for the tire. We tried to work our way up through management and were just jerked around in the process. Outside, behind the shop, after my son was pushed backwards over a 4-wheeler and I was shoved to the ground, we called the police.............. The tire miraculously appeared before the police arrived. We threw the tire in my vehicle and I drove off out of the lot and waited at the street for my son. He didn't show. I ran back onto the lot and find him surrounded by all the employees of the shop. He was just trying to get away. They saw me run back and decended on me physically shoving me back to the street. ...........They obviously wanted us to strike back, but we didn't. We would have been cited for coming onto their grounds and causing a disturbance..........All in all a very bad experience.

I would report this to Yamaha USA right away. Not sure this is
the image they want at their dealerships

Sounds like they're prime candidates for a customer service training seminar. ;-)
Seriously, there's no reason that a dispute with a customer should ever descend to that level. There's always a method of de-fusing the situation if people keep their wits about them. Of course, if these guys were consciously attempting to steal your old tire, then all bets are off. It's not much, but maybe you could file a complaint with the local BBB too.

Assault on the first event (your son and you). What ever happened to the police call? Did they show? Why didn't you stick around to file a complaint?
Assault on the second event (you). Again, why didn't you just wait and now that it's happened twice, press for charges/arrest?
Cited for 'causing a disturbance' is not a penal code offense. Not even close to disorderly conduct. If you had not been given proper notice to leave the property, they couldn't even get you for tresspassing.
If you wanted to make a deal about it, you can still file a police report, name individuals and talk with the DA about pressing assault charges. That can all happen after the fact.
Yes, a bad experience that's worth at minimum some letter writing to corporate.

What happened with the police? It's not clear who provoked whom to violence but someone definitely lost their cool. I believe you, it was a bad experience.
I've been to Tyler Yamaha a few times for tire mounts and other stuff. Never had a problem.
On tires, save some money here http://www.swmototires.com/ They are fast, and no shipping for 2 or more.
ps. I've used a stopngo tire plugger with good success. An inside mushroom plug. Very cool tool

Do you carry channel-locks by chance?
Seriously though, it sounds like you did the right thing by calling PD.

Sounds like they someone wanted the tire for a stunt bike. (Plug it and run it) when they found out that you were not going to leave without it and they were "caught steeling it"(look and see if they charged you the $2 deposal fee if so go get that back) they were going to push you out the door. I would have stayed there till the cops got there and they filed a report so you could pass that along to the owner and Yamaha usa. They both might be interested in what happen.
I know they just lost any chance of me using them for anything
Thanks..

That shop has lots of turn-over, so I'm told. Management has changed at least two times in the last 6 years. If you need tires done, go to Good Time Cycle, which is about a 1/4 mile down the road. They have better prices, a spin balancer, and do good work on tires. Caution: The personality of their service manager sucks but if you can get past that, they are good at changing a tires.
I've had issues at Broadway myself but they were quality control-related issues on service work they did to my bike. My thinking is that they probably got bent out of shape when you went looking for your own tire in a customer restricted area (the fenced-off back lot)???? That's just a guess but it certainly does not justify them pushing you around. I'd file a complaint with the management. It probably won't do jack but a least you will feel better.
FWIW... I know one good/nice mechanic that works down there. His name is Les. He was the service manager at Athens Suzuki before they went belly-up. I would recommend him if you have to go to Broadway for work. He knows his stuff.

In response to your question of how it escalated so rapidly, I was quite shocked to at how the situation so quickly deteriorated. It was like something out of "Deliverance." Once they realized we were not going to leave w/o the tire, the pushing started ON THEIR SIDE. We did not respond with force of any kind except to state that we were not in the wrong, they were the thieves. I am a retired shop teacher/coach, so I know not to do anything that is not politically correct when dealing with idiots.............I have filed a complaints with the BBB and and Yamaha USA..............The police did not arrive because my son called them off when our tire appeared.

I am glad that you advised Yamaha of the incident but don't expect much to come of it. I imagine that you will receive a nice letter advising that dealers are independent, etc. I might inquire of the city attorney as to whether or not it is too late to file charges and if so what an appropriate charge would be. On the other hand since no one was hurt, a nice letter of apology from the dealer principal would be appropriate, I think.

FWIW
Once this thread has run its course I would call the dealer and get the owners name and Speak to him advise him of the situation then ask very nicely and explain that you would like to email him the link to this(and any others you start)
thread. This will give the OWNER a chance to see what this single incident has cost him in sales and reputation. Many times it's very easy to just dismiss a pissed off customer as a crank and better off without him,,, until they see that the impact is much larger than just one person.

Wow...see I had some issues with them when I wanted to buy a gsxr 600 and when I went to sit on it a sales rep told me "Hey get off" in a aggressive tone. When I looked up at him I told him he just lost a sale and as I started to walk out he said it was mistaken identity and I just told him that I was no longer interested and I never went back I ended up buying my Katana from a guy shipping out from Dyess...it was cheaper and I got a 750 and not a lil 600...not that there is ANY difference. Anyways it's good to know that me not going back in hasn't made me miss anything

Welcome aboard...Elzi and I recruited you at Walmat on Canton on Sunday. Come see us when you need your tires changed, we have a complete motorcycle shop with a lift and tire changing equipment. Far cheaper to order over the internet and pay us with beer...

On behalf of the citizens of Tyler I feel obligated to apologize to visitors to this area who are not treated with respect. we have long suffered mediocre service and rude behavior in all of the motorcycle dealerships in this area. Honestly I don't know how they stay in business. I travel to longview and marshall everyday and visit the bike shops there. I have always been treated well in these places and buy my goods from them instead. It's a shame that the people in these places don't feel the sense of community that bikers share. I hope their behavior will not leave a bad impression on anyone thinking about coming here.

My first bike, a used DT100, came from the Yamaha place back when they were on the Loop over by the Troup highway. I wonder if it is still the same dealership in any way?
