I'm out, but I can recommend part of a route that I took over to Canton back in November - FM157 to FM875 and pick up FM813 in Waxahachie. I took FM34 into Kaufman but you could continue further south and pick up some other good roads...

Foat Wuth folks:

Looks like there's quite a few of us from Cowtown side who want to ride out together. How 'bout we meet up at this interesction (http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=venus+tx&ie=UTF8&z=14&ll=32.598312,-97.142401&spn=0.035142,0.086517&om=1) (not sure what's around there, maybe someone can help with that)? We can then get onto 157 and head south towards Venus and points beyond. I'm still working on a route from Palmer (I'm looking at getting from Venus to Palmer via FM157, FM875 and FM813) to Lake Fork, so if anyone has any suggestions just toss 'em out here.

I'm game for a Group Ride. North or South doesn't matter.

I too have not planned a specific route.

With that said, this place isn't that far from Mineola.
For that Pie Run I met up with two guys in Plano and headed out.

I'm thinking a route north of US380 could be done. ???

US287 and FM157, Mansfield area.

There are several restaurants and a large parking lot on SW side (to your right as you exit southbound) and a gas station just a couple hundred yards south on FM157 (west side). There is stuff on the north side of US287, too.

Actually, I saw a bunch of Gold Wings staged on the south end of that parking lot when I was on my way to meet ya'll at FM1187 and US377 for the Ponder Pie Run.

I would be glad to lead in from the North approach. These counties are my former neighborhood and I know where the good curves are east of Dallas. We could meet early in Princeton and get some miles in before lunch, or go more directly to lunch then spend the afternoon on my favorite twisties that are a bit east of Lake Fork.

Disclaimer: I don't cruise or poke-along, it's more of a blasting style; sane and safe, but spirited. :trust:

Quick-connects huh? RT's suck as far as having to disassemble the bike to get to ANYTHING including the battery.

I could only wish it were the Quick Disconnects

Actually one of the lines from the Fuel Distributor/Regulator cracked. You have to replace the whole distributor. Guess where that is? Mounted to the front of the Airbox. How do we get the airbox out? Gotta do the sub-frame tilt "dance" to drop the airbox.

Seen Net photos of people tilting the sub-frame to do a clutch/spline lube on an Oilhead BMW? Same proceedure. The only thing I'd need to do now to change the clutch is pull the swing arm and tranny. I'm that close just to change a freekin' fuel line! :eek2:

Fuel box is about $50. Labor? Ten Gazzillion dollars! Or so it feels.

Oh well, got it licked whenever  the parts get here. Hopefully before Jan 27th!

It probably a good thing we're doing a northern route, I just rode FM157 from Mansfield to Venus and it was TERRIBLE! That road has been destroyed by the gas trucks. They are in the process of resurfacing it so the gas trucks can destroy it again.

Let me know where we're gonna hook up.

I'm in Lavon off Hwy 78; ten miles south of Farmersville. I'll make a route from Princeton on 380 to Mosier's (hitting every decent curve between the two, of course) and then have a 100-mile loop of some good stuff to the east of Lake Fork for after lunch.

North of the interstate is interesting riding because the black-gumbo soil causes the FM lanes to crack in half and have a stair step right in the middle.:eek2: I'm sure you've seen them, but Hunt and Collin counties are lousy with them. Things smooth out to the south.

We've got some of the same problems with the FMs here in Johnson Co. The problem is exacerbated by the endless procession of gas/oil field rigs and gas tankers rolling up and down the roads with thier precious cargo.

I normally take 287 thru 45, then jump on 85 east. I end up going thru Gun Barrel city and try to fing something decent from there. I like the southern route because 1. it's closer 2. more pine trees sooner w/ lots of horse ranches
3. to much traffic up north. I have a friend I work with who has a house on Lake Fork which is always a must stop down. Be aware 1st Monday will be going on in Canton- 5 0 will be out. Check out 2225 north out of Quitman:rider: :rider:. 8:30 would be a better start time for the southern folks, with east riders meeting at 45 and exit 85.

Bill and Randall: I'll just meet you guys at this gas station. That way you won't have to make a second stop to pick me up.

There's a gas station on 360 south and Green Oaks exit, in front of a Albertsons. The exit is a combo Kingswood/Green Oaks - Green Oaks to the right.

Wayne, I thought you were heading up North?

I was but I decided I didn't want to roll with those darn yankees.:lol2:

Seriously, I wanted to do a southern route originally, but didn't know any good roads. I had decided to head north until Randall showed up with a nice sounding route. Back on the Southern passage!:rider:

Randall,

Mind if I hook up with you all for the Pie run?

I'm trying to get the FZ1 put back together before then, but if not I'll ride the Connie.

DFW southern route options?

287 to Ennis
85 east outa Ennis
85 to Gun Barrel City-slow- red lights
334 outa G.B. to 316 north
316 to 1861
1861 to 858 Ben Wheeler
858 to 314 to Van
1805 north to 1253
1253 to 80 to 1799 to 17
Hey guys, I know ya'll are looking forward to riding US287 to Ennis , but you might consider a slightly different (and longer) route. I did a version of this one riding to Canton in November:

FM157 south thru Venus
FM875 east to US287 business (again) in Waxahachie
jog around on I35 and US287 to FM813
FM813 NE to FM879 and FM660
FM660 south to SH34
take SH34 back to Ennis
Take I35E south to FM85 (not very far)

I really don't recommend FM157 at this time - it is torn up between US287B and US67 and what isn't torn up is in bad shape. Instead, I recommend taking SH360 south to US287 and taking that into Midlothian and picking up FM663 south to intersect FM875 in the route above.

Double check The Roads of Texas (I know Randall has it) since a couple of the interchanges and concurrently running roads are somewhat confusing...

The sooner you get to Lake Fork the better the roads.
Before our after or both, look at 2225:rider:
I'm a ROADS of TEXAS map caveman.

You'll find 2225 disappointing. I only rode it once, but never went back. It's in bad shape and those 90s are NOT high speed.

1805, however is a jewel. 779 from Emory to Golden is big, fast sweepers, very pretty. Watch for LEO in Golden and Alba!

Look at 1002 above Big Sandy. That is a FUN road. 49 is good and 852 from Gilmer to Winnsboro is smooth and twisty.
Those are the roads that I will ride after lunch. If you're going south head to Winnsboro first then work your way back; we'll pass, so stay in your lane!:lol2:

A good way to bypass the red lights of Gun Barrell City would be
Left on 2613 off of 85 prior to Seven Points
Right on 3396 (great fast sweepers, no traffic)
Left on 274 to Kemp
East on 1391 (good fast road, no traffic)
Left on 90 stay on 90 across 47 to 3227
Left on 198 into Canton.

We live in the area and travel these roads quite frequently.

If any of you need a little more riding to settle the pie, it's only about a 150 mile run over to RRMP at Muenster. You could swing by and take part in the fund raising drawing/raffle we are having for the family of Elmer Symons. I'll have a custom made- one of a kind pen in the drawing and I'm also going to offer to build a special request pen to be designed by the lucky winner. Check out our thread on the ride at http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14746

With that said, y'all be careful, enjoy yourselves, have a slice of pie for me and don't do anything stupid.

The DFW southern route will be slabbin on 287 to Ennis so a little a.m. moisture wouldn't be to bad. The Starbucks is basically 1 block north on Little road off of I-20. I know 287 is now finished to go around downtown Middleothian so that helps a bit. The route thru Gun Barrel is a little slower but you cross more of the lake for what thats worth- let the good roads dry up anyway. After lunch is over I will probably go visit a work buddy who has a house on the lake (Fork) to say hey. He's workin on his roof supposedly so it'll be a short stay- unless his smokers goin :eat: .

Having received a GPS for Christmas and finally getting it installed on the bike last weekend, I have plotted a route to Mosier's from the Cracker Barrel in Denton at I35 and US380.

Additionally, hating to be late, I plan to leave the Cracker Barrel by 7:30a, rain or shine.

The basics of the route:
:tab FM428 to Aubrey and on to Celina
:tab FM455 to Weston
:tab FM543 / Hwy5 to McKinney
:tab (not on any map yet) depart US380 south to hookup with FM546
:tab FM546 to Lucas Rd and west across the bridge to Southview
:tab Left on Southview to Parker
:tab Left on Parker (becomes Ballard in Wylie)
:tab Left on Brown (in Wylie)
:tab Left on Hwy78 (in Wylie) to FM2755 (in Lavon)
:tab FM2755 to FM1138 (south of Nevada)
:tab Right on FM1138 to Hwy66
:tab Left on Hwy66 to FM548 (in Royce City)
:tab Right on FM548 to South Service Rd of I30
:tab Left on I30 South Service Rd to Hwy35
:tab Hwy35 to Hwy276
:tab Hwy276 to Emory
:tab In Emory, Right on US69, Right on Hwy19, Immediate Left on FM3274
:tab FM3274 to FM779
:tab Right on FM779 to Hwy17
:tab Left on Hwy17 through Alba to CR1555
:tab Right on CR1555 to Mosier's (Sure hope this is where we need to be)
Route is 150 miles
Estimated time is 3hrs 44min.

I have never led a ride and I've never traveled some of these roads.
With that said, ya'll are welcome to tag along.... :)
