I like the KTM better in black than orange, personally. You're developing quite a collection there, John. Sweet!

Dude, that KTM rocks!! I love the all black scheme. It really makes me want one!

Thanks for the comments,

I decided to get the KTM 18 liter tank for range, that only comes in black, and once on it was on it was an easy decision to grab the fenders and side plates etc. in black too as they don't cost that much. All the plastics together were less than half the price of that tank. :angryfir:

I got some black background graphics with some orange accents stripes from a girl who makes custom KTM graphics in Germany, I hope it still looks as good with them on. I need the graphics or something there to protect the tank from my knees.

I put the graphics on last night, in the dark, and I hope they look good or don't have too many bubbles under em. :)

I almost got these graphics, but went with a more tame one, asian dragon stuff just doesn;t seem right for a bike that has ACHTUNG! on all the stickers. ;-)

It should look more like this one.

Put clear film on the tank and leave it all black! Put something cryptic on it to make people think you are buddies with those guys in the black helicopters...

I was thinking maybe putting some of that "paint on" bedliner they have down at the local auto parts store on the tank. :)

I'll have to see how fast these graphics get torn up by my knees. The tank was getting scratched up just from that Wyoming weekend.

Hmm the clear stuff actually sounds like a good idea though, if I knew where I could get good quality film, and I could buff the fine tank scratches out well enough.

What about 5-8 layers of clear coat? If everything is already smooth and ready to go, it wouldn't be gard at all. The only factor would be drying time between layers.

If it's a plastic tank it can't be painted or have decals applied, unless they're perforated.

I hear that Krylon fusion works well on plastic tanks, and basically nothing else will stay on, something about fumes weeping through or something like that?

I doubt Krylon fusion comes in clear though, black yes.

The graphics I put on will probably be torn up before they have a chance to come off. :)

How would one buff out that plastic? Or tell what kind of plastic it is?

Plastic tanks "breathe", thus nothing sticks to them unless it is gas permeable as well. Anyone who has tried to put decals and stickers on them has been puzzled by the bubbles.... (guilty here  ). As far as buffing goes, you might try some 2000 grit sandpaper and some rubbing compound, but I'd try the compound on the underside to be sure it doesn't stain. Maybe some wax? Dunno, never tried to buff a plastic tank before. There is some stuff you can get to restore color and sheen on other plastics, maybe it'll work on tanks. I tried to keep the XR looking good for a little while, but soon discovered it was a lost cause

Yeah I did a little looking, and they say that gas actually evaporates through the tank. Not much but enough.

Hmm, ahh well I guess it'll just have to look ratty soon, at least I got some pics first. :)

Plain black was nice, but with the new graphics it is great. Almost makes me want to do the same with mine.

Tough to say, I really like the all black look, but those are nice graphics. I'll form a better opinion when I see it against a snow drift on top of a mountain in a week or so... ;-)
