View Full Version : Who's 'been everywhere, man"?

Post a picture of your bike and proof of the town. Let's see if we can knock them all off the list. BOLD are completed towns. Red still need a picture/proof.

Surfing today I came across this version of Cash. I tried searching for it to see if it was a dupe or not on the boards. If it is, forgive me, delete it, move it or whatever. I DID think it was pretty cool and would be very impressed if anyone has done them all.

You can hear an MP3 excerpt at http://www.brianburnsmusic.com/es_song_10.htm

I've Been Everywhere (In Texas) MP3 Excerpt
Geoff Mack (Texas Version Adapted By Brian Burns)

I was totin’ my pack along the dusty Amarillo road
when along came a semi with a high and canvas covered load.
“If you’re goin’ to Amarillo, Mack, with me you can ride,”
and so I climbed up in the cab and then I settled down inside.
He asked me if I’d seen a road with so much dust and sand,
and I said, “listen, bud, I’ve traveled every road in this here land...”

CHORUS:
I’ve been everywhere, man,
I’ve been everywhere, man,
I’ve crossed the deserts bare, man,
breathed the mountain air, man,
of travel I’ve had my share, man,
I’ve been everywhere.

I’ve been to Waco, Hico, Hondo, Navasota,
Winnsboro, Jacksboro, Hillsboro, Santa Rosa,
Austin, Houston, Galveston, Texarkana,
Frisco, Buffalo, Conroe, Corsicana,
Goliad, Groesbeck, Glen Rose, Red Oak,
Post Oak, Live Oak, Lone Oak, no joke...

REPEAT CHORUS

I’ve been to Krugerville, Pflugerville, Van Horn, Val Verde,
Brackettville, Bartonville, Beeville, Bulverde,
Bear Creek, Cedar Creek, Mill Creek, Mineola,
Maypearl, Monahans, Telephone, Tuscola,
Redwater, Round Rock, Round Top, Round Lake,
Sour Lake, Southlake, Springlake, for Pete’s sake...

REPEAT CHORUS

I’ve been to Greenville, Gatesville, Gainesville, Alameda,
Kerrville, Kellyville, Bastrop, Benavides,
Somerville, Smithville, Stephenville, Prairie View,
Luckenbach, Longview, Plainview, Idalou,
Justin, Junction, Panorama, Pasadena,
Angelina, and Lorena...see what I mean-a...

REPEAT CHORUS

I’ve been to Valley Mills, Pine Mills, Dime Box, Duncanville,
New Home, New Hope, New Deal, Liberty Hill,
Rockport, Rock Creek, Bridgeport, Brownwood,
Cleburne, Comanche, Cut & Shoot, Cottonwood,
Bayview, Bayside, Baytown, Bay City,
Falls City, Center City, Bridge City, what a pity...

REPEAT CHORUS

When it comes to travelin’ Texas, friend,
I’ve been everywhere.

EDIT: 09/17/2007
We've FINISHED IT! Thanks to all those who have participated in the initial shooting of all 92 towns in the song. It took us 8 months to the day to do this and I can't begin to imagine the miles travelled to complete such a task. And thanks to those who have submitted other "texas" pictures to be included in the video Gilk51 is creating. Now our project is in Chucks hands. (no pressure there chuck, ok?)

somebody posted video link awhile back with this music as the background with a lot of cool m/c travel pics, but I can't find it. I've still got the video mp3 on my home system somewhere, though and play it when I'm feeling too stuck in the suburbia rut.

I thought the exact same thing last year when we were playing the "alphabetical in order Town Game". Even plotted them all out. But have not even started yet. Brian Burns has alot of good songs out, even though he has yet to break into main streams top played.

Brian Burns is not only a great adapter of song, but an incredible songwriter altogether. Go and buy his 'Heavy Weather' and I dare ya to hit the [next song] - you wont be able to do it.

Seriously, he's pure greatness

That sounds like a cool idea. I'll go back and edit my original post by highlighting the ones that have been documented. I won't try to be a stickler for authenticity, so it'll be the honor system. As the pictures come in to the thread, the first page list will be updated.

I've got a few I can post too this evening...

Well today started out at about 39*F, but it was beautiful out so I just figured I'd try to knock some more off the 'list' in the song on page 1. I left Austin about 9:30 and headed out HWY71, then 183S and across FM812 through Elroy and then hit 21 to Cedar Creek.

http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/cedarcreek.jpg

From there, I stayed on 21, then hopped on HWY71 to Bastrop. Since there wasn't a city limits sign, I figured a post office would do just fine.

http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/bastrop.jpg

From Bastrop, I stayed on HHY71 to Smithville where I stopped for a cup of coffee and a chicken fried steak at "The Caboose". It was pretty good along with the fried okra and mashers. Mmmmmm.... :eat:

http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/smithville.jpg

After fueling and my belly full, I left Smithville on FM153, then FM 2239 to Giddings where I made a wrong turn and continued North on US77 until I hit Hwy 21 where I headed East and caught FM141 down to Dime Box.

http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/dimebox.jpg

I stayed on FM141 back to Giddings to find the error of my ways seeing where I should have turned. I hopped on 290 towards Paige and hooked it South on Hwy21 down to Bastrop and backtracked back to Austin.

Overall what a beautiful day to get some miles in. :rider:

So,what did YOU do today? If you hit any of the remaining towns, post 'em up!

A Kansas Guzzi rider takes some great shots, and used the
man in blacks' music to put it all together.
He often rides down into Texas.
Has over 200K on a California II
Link here http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=4264.0

The same guy does theme photo albums from his 30 years of riding.
Grain silos,
Barn,
Gas stations, etc.
Interesting stuff, in a historical kind of way.
He also has done some nice things on his trip to Italy last year.
Link to his website is at the bottom of the Wildguzzi thread.

I've been looking up the various cities listed and have run into a snag or two. Any help would be appreciated for confirmation or help on these.

Round Lake. Can't find any town by the name of Round Lake, or Roundlake. The only thing is a lake called "Round Lake" up around Corsicana. Anybody know where the town of Round Lake is, or is it just that, a lake?

Panorama. I've found Panorama Village complete with a Police Department. Montgomery county with a Conroe address and Willis telephone number. Is this the one?

Angelina. Possible doesn't exist anymore. It was a town on a railroad, then changed its name to Durst then back to Angelina all about 1900. Possibly somewhere up around the Dibol area on the Neches river? I found a National Weather Service bulletin for Angelina in that area.

The rest I've been able to find by a listing my my TxDot map, Google and Yahoo! maps. (i think..... lol.)

Thanks-

Sounds like you and I have been doing the same thing - I'm running MapSource and adding a waypoint for all these locations (I'll post it when I'm finished & checked it). I have had problems with:

Alamena
Angelina
Bear Creek
Liberty Hill
Panorama (Village)
Round Lake

There were a couple with more than one reference - I should have noted those the first time through. Next is to check with The Roads of Texas...

Alamena
Angelina

Round Lake

I believe it's Alameda after listening several times and the pic from the vid shows the Alameda cemetary. I found Alameda, South of Houston around Pearland on the maps/search.

Angelina as noted possibly doesn't exist anymore as noted in this link:
http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/AA/hramg.html I'm going to shoot for the Dibol area to see what I can find. The vid shows Angelina County line sign.

Bear Creek shows up North of Houston around the New Waverly area. The vid shows a Bear Creek sign, but it doesn't show a population. (Might be a real creek name? My Cedar Creek sign is for the city but it's also the creek sign)

Liberty Hill is off Hwy 29 West of Georgetown which is just North of Austin. There's a sign there but I don't have the pic yet.

Panorama I've also found as a village in Montgomery County. Folks have a Conroe address and a Willis telephone number for getting you close. Also:
30-22.43N by 95-29.47W popped up. There's a 27 hole golf course there according to what I found.

Round Lake is the hard one (and my last) to research. I haven't had any luck other than a lake called Round Lake in the Corsicana area. The vid shows a banner splash screen instead of a shot of anything.

Hope that helps some.... If you find any other info on these, let me know. OK? I stuck push pins in a Texas map of all the locations. I marked the "unknowns" with a white pin. Just looking at it, I get the feeling you can plan this fairly easily over half a dozen weekends or so. When the pins are in place, there's clear concentrations which most appear to be in the Central to North-North East part.

Some I think are going to have to 'wing it', like the Bay View down by Brownsville. Sat image shows it to be a neighborhood setting so that might be interesting. It'll still be fun to see if we can knock it out.

Well, The Roads of Texas is not helping much - there are 4 Plainviews (major one is in the panhandle) and none of the missing locations. Milam County seems to specialize in duplicates located elsewhere.

Mapsource came up with the following multiple listings, looks like TRoT may have a few more...

Bayview 2
Brownwood 2
Cedar Creek 2
Cottonwood 2
Liberty Hill 2 Williamson, Milam counties
Lone Oak 2
New Hope 8!
Plainview 2 (4 TRoT)
Post Oak 2
Rock Creek 2
Valley Mills 2 Bosque/McClennan (splits county line)
Val Verde 2 Hidalgo, Milam counties

Haven't looked at them all.

Looks like Angelina may be just the county name in east Texas...

Two Val Verdes, not very close to each other:
...Val Verde, Hidalgo Co., N26 10.666 W98 05.432 (near McAllen)
...Val Verde, Milam Co., N30 50.032 W97 14.835 (near Temple)

I did a little more research and checking between Garmin MapSource (City Navigator v8 and USA Topo), The Roads of Texas, and good old Google search. I think I have a usable list of locations for all of those listed in the song. The ones I had trouble with were:

Alameda - I found an Almeda & it's in the list but the best I found was an Alameda Cemetery from an old town that no longer exists. That is probably the cemetary in the video. It is marked in TRoT.

Angelina is a county name. I found the airport (Angelina International  )

Bear Creek - I found a community in the SW Austin area that was listed as a "small town" in the Handbook of Texas Online.

There were multiple listings for some and I used the largest or the incorporated listing. In some cases, I have two or three (pick one) - usually the first one is probably the best choice.

By far, the most troublesome was Round Lake. I found a blurb on the city of Addicks that absorbed a "Round Lake" sometime in the past. But I found a lot of small, county lakes named Round Lake. Some of them were listed in the Topo maps and in TRoT, but usually not in City Navigator. Google found a bunch of these and I included several. The best is probably the one near Beaumont that is in the wildlife refuge.

I didn't include the Round Lake near San Patricio because I couldn't find it marked. It is mentioned in the Knolle Bed and Breakfast listing.

My list of locations in a text file (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/files/gps/everywheretexas.txt), including song lyrics (from the first post) and some notes at the bottom.

A screen capture of the area in Garmin MapSource:
http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/files/gps/everywheretexas_gmsq.jpg (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/files/gps/everywheretexas_gms.jpg)

A transportable GPS file: GPX file (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/files/gps/everywheretexas.gpx)

A normal Garmin file: GDB file (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/files/gps/everywheretexas.gdb)

Hope that is useful, haven't tried any kind of route with it yet...

He built a frame house in 1855 1½ miles west of San Patricio at Round Lake.

Also have some information about the Knolle B&B (http://www.knolle.com/main-lodging.htm) and adjoining McGloin house (http://www.knolle.com/mcgloin.htm).

Using Google maps, I *THINK* this is the location: map link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=san+patricio+texas&ie=UTF8&z=15&ll=27.969426,-97.813768&spn=0.031459,0.049739&t=h&om=1)

The description is an oxbow (cresent shaped) lake off of the Nueces River. It would be either of those in the above image, but neither is marked. The location is just too vague as written.

If you found a latitude & longitude, I would like to see where it gets placed on a map.

Nice work. I would like to see the route and see how many miles the songs is.

Today I found one of the "hard ones".... I went looking for Val Verde and meandered up to Holland and asked some locals. Two or three said it was "in the valley", ie: Brownsville. Then an older gentleman came over and said, "No, ValVerde is back FM 2268 East about 8-10 miles. Not much there, but the chruch is still there with a sign. If you hit the T intersection, you went too far". So armed with that tidbit of info I headed down FM 2268 and presto. The community of ValVerde. Church, history sign and all.

What I'm realizing is that the 7 or so difficult ones were most probably not towns, rather communities so landmarks might be scarce.

Anyway, the church in ValVerde is at:
N30-50.071
W97-16.318
I can email a pic if you need it for reference, but it's easy to find.

Interesting - MapSource has a point labelled "Val Verde" just to the east of there at N30 50.029 W97 14.832.

The waypoint on my map is the one near Brownsville.Interesting stuff!

I knocked off a few more this past 1350 mile weekend including:

Brownwood
Tuscola
New Home
Idalou
New Deal
Plainview
Springlake
Amarillo
Comanche
Bear Creek

I also sent Brian Burns an email asking if he could help with a few of the 'problem' areas including Angelina, Round Lake.

Speaking of going everywhere in Texas, I thought you guys might like this thread (http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16089) I started a few days ago. It's about a friend of mine from Japan who travelled Texas extensively in the late 90's and early 2000's. He painted many pictures of rural and small-town Texas during his travels and ended up publishing them in a book back in Japan.

All I located was a mill and a church on Old Mill Creed Rd. just West of Brenham and South of Hwy 290. If you did, was there a sign/post office etc with Mill Creek?

MILL CREEK, TEXAS (Washington County). Mill Creek is on County Road 28 and the Southern Pacific line, three-fourths of a mile south of Lake Lange and 5½ miles from Brenham in southwestern Washington County. The predominantly black community had become the ninth largest population center in Washington County by 1930, when it had seventy-five residents. It reached its maximum growth in the twentieth century, unlike many Washington County communities. Mill Creek maintained the same population level from 1930 until 1950, when the estimated number of residents dropped to forty. Although commercial activity declined by 1970 due to the proximity of Brenham and improved transportation, in 1988 Mill Creek remained a supply point for the surrounding area. With an influx from Brenham and Houston of new weekend and permanent residents, the community had become predominantly white. Extensive house construction had resulted in a fine new residential section. Mount Pilgrim Church is in the Mill Creek vicinity. The population was still reported as forty in 1990.

Kinda scanned The Roads of Texas index and found:

Almeda, Harris County, N29 36.221 W95 25.043 (south Houston, near 8/288)

/edit/ Song definitely says "Alameda" and there is a picture of a cemetary in the video...
('course, with a western-style song, a few extra syllables are sometimes added)

Almeda is south of Houston, the main road going through it is Almeda road(521), That runs down toward the coast to freeport, which was replaced by Hwy 288. Not much of a town unless the suburbs have refilled it. It does have a cemetary http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~prsmith/photo_almeda_cemetery.htm

Arcola, Rosharon, and several other little mostly dead farm towns are also down Almeda road. There was a really nice plantation down at Arcola my mom's uncle was caretaker for for years. It's a big subdivision now, Sienna I think, and I dunno if they kept the nice plantation house around or not. It sure was a great place to hang out before it was bought out.

Angelina if not a town anymore (could still be something there) is also a river, and a national forest eh?

I was born and raised here all but a few years, been to almost all those places at one time or another, except the far west ones and northwest ones.

Here's a quick rundown on how it works

After you've uploaded your pics to photobucket you should resize them to message board size (640x480) by clicking on the image, them click the "resize" button. This keeps the thread in TWTEX a nice, easily readable, uniform size.

Next, if you want to display the pic on the message board, copy and paste the line circled in red into the text box here on TWTex. If you want to post a link to the photo to display it in another window (you might do this if you want to show a really large picture that you don't wish to resize) copy and paste the line circled in blue into the text box.
http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i77/wstecker/PBscreencap.jpg

When you copy and paste the line provided in photobucket, it automatically ads the bracketed [IMG] code to around the url, which commands the forum software to display the photo.
[IMG]http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i77/wstecker/PBscreencap3.jpg

You cab also use the "insert image" button (looks like a tiny photo of a mountain right above the text box), and paste the url (without the code on each end) into the little pop up box and the forum software will add the code for you.

Houston, Pasadena, Conroe... and two more. One up near Conroe and maybe Baytown or Bay City? (Whichever is over there near Pasadena)

It's just that these five are sooooo boring - peopl all live there and there's nothing special about them so it's a BORING 300 miles of CITY riding!

I'll have to make a better ride for some of the others. Lots between here and Dallas/Tyler.

http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/southlake_2870q.JPG (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/southlake_2870.JPG)

The name in the song sure sounds like Bartleville, but this is what is listed in the version we have - Bartonville:
http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/bartonville_2873q.JPG (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/bartonville_2873.JPG)

If you Google the song, several versions of the lyrics come up. The one that has "Bartleville" listed also has Joshua and not Junction. Unless there were two versions of the song, I have to go with the one that has Junction and Bartonville...

Put Justin is pretty obvious.

I purchased Brian Burns CD "The Eagle and the Snake - Songs of the Texians". It's an EXCELLENT CD that has the song for this project. Listed in his song lyrics as the insert is Bartonville and Junction.

I'm thinking tomorrow I'll get a few more SE of Austin... :rider:

Started out to take a photo of this cool courthouse in Decatur:

http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/courthouses/wise_decatur_2912q.JPG

A kinda ugly looking front said "go west, old man", so I hightailed for Bridgeport, just down the road (SH380):

And, since I was in the area, I decided to go find Jacksboro, too:

The list on PAGE 1 stays current, and Gainesville is still up for grabs. Make sure you get either a city limits sign, courthouse with the name of the town or post office. Bike should be in the shot too.

Snap the shot, post it here and I'll get the list updated. Repeat until all 91 are done.

Hey, M38-Scott, you are closer to this than me but this has some promise for locating "Round Lake":

-------

ROUND LAKE CEMETERY
Gonzales County, Texas

Today this cemetery is called the Round Lake Cemetery. In the old days it was
called the Clabbertown Cemetery. The cemetery gets its name from the Round
Lake (Clabbertown) Community that was located near by. From 1899 to 1906 Round
Lake (Clabbertown) had a post office that was located in Martin Albert Zent's
general store. This cemetery is sometimes refered to as the Round Lake (Zent)
or Clabbertown (Zent) Cemetery.

Transcribed, by Richard C. Baker, Jr., on 13 August 2004. rbakerbtcm@aol.com

Richard C. Baker, Jr.
141 Eileen Dr.
Pleasanton, TX 78064

The cemetery is located between Smiley and Wrightsboro, Texas next to FM 108.

Directions from the city of Gonzales.
1. Go South of Gonzales on Hwy. 183 for 2 miles.
2. Bear right on to Hwy. 97 for 3.5 miles
3. Turn left on to FM 108 for about 12 miles.
4. Turn right onto CR 542. The cemetery gate is on the right at the
corner of FM 108 and CR 542 miles.

Directions from the city of Smiley.
1. From Hwy. 87 in Smiley, turn North on FM 108 for 4.6 miles.
2. Turn left onto CR 542. The cemetery gate is on the right at the
corner of FM 108 and CR 542 miles.

Cool thread..... There's a group of riders nationwide (Doof Clena's.... don't ask, even I couldn't explain the sheer "stupidity" of it all....... ) Who's only requirement for membership is to ride to any road in the state you live in designated 43. For Texas, there are two, one by Corpus (FM 43) and one by Marshall (TX 43). Why 43 you ask??? D is the 4th letter of the alphabet, C is the 3rd. It's mostly Harley riders, but it really doesn't matter... even the "hardcore" are looking at BMW's...;-)

It is probably the only AMA sanctioned group, that started out as a joke, everything there is still a joke, but the people you meet are real, honest and will find any excuse to ride anywhere, regardless of how "pointless" it is..

Oh, and "rubber chickens" are a plus...

I knocked Round Lake off the list for us (and me). I now realize how difficult some of these might be to document. Gilk51 gave me perfect directions to Round Lake cemetary which I found and took several shots of. But there was no sign indicating so. Just posts at the gate where one might have been at some time. Not to be outdone, I went into the mega-metropolis of Smiley, Texas and stopped at the City Offices where the administrator began making lots of phone calls. Then a couple of older city work crew guys came in and everyone confirmed that was in fact the old Round Lake cemetary, formally known as Clappertown or Clapperville. There were markers in there for a LOT of infants from 2 or 3 days old to several months and all in the 1870's, so times must have been hard. They also said there at one time was a sign over the gate, but it's been gone for quite some time. The posts still remain however.

Anyway, here's one of the cemetary in the community once known as Round Lake.

I don't have any doubt we'll be finished by the end of the year as we've only got about 18 left to complete. At this time I think to keep with the spirit of the thread and upcoming video, we should stick to the actual communities, towns etc. That said, I recognize there are some out there that will be difficult, (like Round Lake) to get. So, let's keep plugging away with the best possible representation of the community, city, town, municipality etc via city limit signs, post offices, cemetaries etc and see how it goes.

Difficult ones remaining I think include:
1)Alameda
http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/AA/hva47.html

2)Kellyville
http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/KK/hvk12.html

So Squeak - where's YOUR contributions? :trust: Post up some of the remaining ones and be part of the soon to be famous TWT video Gilk51 will be putting together.

Somehow we have to get the North Texas, North East Texas and Houston area folks involved. I'm guessing this video will make it's way to YouTube and ADVRider so whoever posts a remaining town picture will soon be famous to the world with their bike on those venues.

The mile or so of gravel and dirt County Road 483 for the Alameda Cemetary was the onlt spot that boosted my blood pressure. Most of the farm roads and state highways (16, 148, 59) were deserted and enjoyable. I really didn't get hot until I stopped in Gainesville about 3 PM. Even the slab back from Gainesville to Arlington (I35, I35W, I30, and I820) was bearable today...

My upper back and shoulders are sore - expected for an old man with a miscurved back...

Oh yeah, I got 5 courthouses, too!

Well, Gilk and Tortuga visited northeast Texas today.
Yes, we got wet :storm: , but not badly enough to put the raingear on.
We dodged some storms late in the afternoon by slabbing back on US80 and I30.

Odometer had 394.1 miles...
(also got 4 courthouses)

My riding partner, Susan (tortuga):
http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/susan_3539q.JPG (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/susan_3539.JPG)

Locations found in the order we found them:

New Hope:
http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/newhope_3519q.JPG (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/newhope_3519.JPG)

Telephone:

We found where the Greenville Post Office used to be:
http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/greenville_oldPO_3530q.JPG (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/greenville_oldPO_3530.JPG)

But Greenville has a regular Post Office, too:
http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/greenville_3532q.JPG (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/greenville_3532.JPG)

Lone Oak just had the town name on the door:
http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/loneoak_3536aq.JPG (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/loneoak_3536a.JPG)

These young business folks helped steer us to the Winnsboro Post Office:
http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/winnsboro_koolaid_stand_3538q.JPG (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/winnsboro_koolaid_stand_3538.JPG)

Winnsboro:
http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/winnsboro_3541q.JPG (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/winnsboro_3541.JPG)

Pine Mills (intersection of FM14 and SH154):
http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/blank.jpg

OK - we found nothing at that location. Nada, nichts, zilch, zero... :-(

We got the most rain for the trip in this area...
Also, a deer tried to tell us that Pine Mills wasn't anymore but thought better of it & made a 180 back into the underbrush. It was 20-30 feet from my right grip and probably would have been in Susan's lap if going across the road. :eek2: Her eyes were like  when we stopped at the above intersection.

This will take some more research... :ponder:

Finally, Mineola:
http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/mineola_3549q.JPG (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/mineola_3549.JPG)

We didn't have the time to go digging around Texarkana and Jefferson, maybe that will come later... :trust:

Another shot of my shadow today:
http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/susan_3534q.JPG (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/susan_3534.JPG)

She was a great sport and didn't care where we went. She mentioned that a bunch of the roads we were on were deserted. :thumb:

I think we need to make Bill (DFW_Warrior) go back and get another picture of Glen Rose. I'll twist his arm. :trust:

From looking at web info - I think Pine Mills is there (Google and Google maps) - it is just not where MapSource put it. We hope to hit The rest of the east Texas spots in one or two trips... (5 if I counted right)

I really like the mirror picture of Santa Rosa - that definately is a different perspective. :thumb:

I think that the hardest one (of those left) may be Kellyville. The wife and I may be able to get out that way again soon.

I like a bike in the pictures and a recognizable landmark (like a sign with the name on it ;-) ). So, some of these could be replaced to finish it off.

Also, we will need some photos for some of the chorus and other lines in the songs - like the lead-in about the truck. I have gleaned some desert pics from several Big Bend rides but could use some ideas on other fill-ins...

Of course, new folks could get in on this historic effort, even at the last minute... :lol2:

Dusty roads? I might be able to get that taken care of. I don't know about canvas covered cotton trucks though, might be able to get some canvas covered cotton.

The mountain air one could be a problem. I'm not sure though that you could tell the difference between normally air and mountain air in a pic.:-P

It doesn't have to be a cotton truck - just "a high and canvas covered load", which could be most agriculture stuff. 78 needs to hang out on some dusty construction roads all this weekend so we can get "official" Amarillo road and truck pictures... :trust:

Got the "mountain air" covered. I need an idea for a second sound track to play at the end when I do the "credits" & I need a picture of everyone who participates and their bike for this (I have some already). I'll also have recoginition to those who posted photos that I have "stolen"...

Beware - I am gleaning the "Stories" forum for pictures of unique Texas places and landmarks... Looking for ideas.

Yesterday (Thur) I decided to knock a few more off my personal list and snag a few for the group effort. Looking at my map in the office and seeing where the stick pins are located for the ones that remain, I decided to make a weekend out of it. So, about 11am, I left Austin headed towards Houston. I ducked off at Hempstead and had a horrible construction-laden trek up 1488 towards Magnolia. Way too many cars in one space, but I did manage to find Panorama. Sort of looks like euromedics pic, but a day or two short of his posting.
http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/65Panorama.jpg

From Panorama, the clouds were beginning to build, as I made my way to Conroe and had a wonderful shoulder to stop for this one.
http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/15Conroe.jpg

Then, with rain beginning, it wasn't but seven or so miles over to Cut and Shoot. My concept of C&S before I saw it was a town of about 100 people. Much to my suprise, it's actually a good sized little place.
http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/83CutandShoot.jpg

I reached my my bingo-point deciding whether or not to turn back and I figured what the heck - let's just see how far I can go with a late start. I weaseled over to Sour Lake and saw YSR619's painted wall picture and snapped this one:
http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/44Sourlake.jpg

Next up was the ugly trek across Beaumont and on into Vidor. About the only way to do it was Interstate, but the rain had stopped. It was however about 6pm or so, and rush hour traffic was a pain. Once I got off the Interstate, I made my way to Bridge City. After about 30 minutes, I finally found "the bridge" and shot this one:
http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/91BridgeCity.jpg

From Bridge City, it was back up to Beaumont and I-10 West till about Mont Belvieu. That was my old stomping grounds when I worked for the Railroad Commission many moons ago. I was however suprised to see the city limits sign so close to I-10. This one is for the group effort.
http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/87Baytown.jpg

I couldn't remember if I could get from Baytown to Pasadena over a bridge or not, but my GPS (an old GPS III+) showed a line so I figured I might as well try. Sure enough, I found my way on 225W? and into Pasadena in the dark. That really wasn't any fun at all. I had a hard time finding a city limits sign, but I did locate the Municipal Court building with their logo and shot this for the group effort:
http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/66Pasadena.jpg

Not too far down the road, I found myself in Houston for a short bit and got this. Looking back the other direction was the opposite sign so I guess Entering Pasadena signs are in fact there.
http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/10Houston.jpg

Once I had those shots, I decided I'd spend the night in Galveston so off to I-45 and the 40 or so miles South. I went over the bridge and saw the city limits sign, but there wasn't a shoulder or turn-out to get a picture. I figured since it was about 9pm, I'd get a room, eat dinner and try in the morning.

Total miles for Thursday was 491.

Today, (Fri) I woke up about 6 and packed what little stuff I brought in. I stayed down at the end of Broadway at a Comfort Inn so that gave me a good choice of stuff to take pictures of on the way back out of town. I visited the Strand, and the Post Office, but settled in on the Police Department for my picture.
http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/11Galveston.jpg

Leaving town over the bridge, I did manage to get a shot of the large concrete GALVESTON that was at either end of the bridge. I just liked the PD shot better.

Now off the island, I took Hwy 6 to Alvin, then Hwy 35 South to Bay City for the third group shot.
http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/88BayCity.jpg

After fueling, I thought about hopping on Hwy 71 for the run back into Austin, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to visit Egypt.
http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/Egypt.jpg

The trip back to Austin was uneventful and as I ran into Bastrop, I decided to re-do our Bastrop picture ditching the Post Office for a city limits sign.
http://www.m38a1.com/g503/scooter/53Bastrop.jpg

I pulled into the driveway about 1pm having motored 281 miles today. Total trip miles = 772, and I knocked off three for the group and 10 for my personal trip.

OK - I need slides for these lines (bold):

I was totin’ my pack along the dusty Amarillo road
when along came a semi with a high and canvas covered load.
“If you’re goin’ to Amarillo, Mack, with me you can ride,”
and so I climbed up in the cab and then I settled down inside.
He asked me if I’d seen a road with so much dust and sand,
and I said, “listen, bud, I’ve traveled every road in this here land...”

There are 4 missing slides in there. :help:

Sat morning early say about 7 or so.. should be back in 6 hours.. say 1 or 2.. my place is an hour east of Dallas so I could meet ?? maybe in Wills Point.. or Canton.. The quote was:
So if you're up for getting those out of the way, look at the rest of the thread to get a feel for what 'type' of picture we need.

Just look at the other pictures to see how they have been done - mainly that they have the bike and sign in them.

My wife and I were thinking about doing these tomorrow, too. We may abbreviate it if ya'll are going.

We can use Texarkana, too. The current one doesn't have a sign in it.

Good luck & good riding!

Ah..... a little competition for the remaining four towns, eh? That's great! I"m curious to see who actually tags it first.

I love the 'sleeping' Glen Rose shot. It's a MUST for the video. And I wasn't aware Hico spelled Museum the way they do. Must be a new thing. :eek2:

yep, the new Glen Rose will go in the video.

Now, for all of you contributers, I need a "potrait" of you (without helmet) and your bike for the "credits". I already have M38A1, DFW-Warrior, FJR Bandit, DANNYROTH, and myself. I need ysr612, lddave, euromedic, and whoever gets any of the remaining towns...

It would be simple to add Texarkana to the list.. its only about 13 miles from Redwater.. so consider it done..

Things needed to be in pic:
1 Bike check
2 Sign or something to suggest the site. check
3 Pretty face uh... now thats tough..

I will be leaving from the Canton area and going east.. thru Pinemills then to Redwater and Texarkana then south to Kellyville and Longview then back home.. its a pretty straight run.. Well, I was thinking seriously about all this but it looks like we have a lunch set up with my son and daughter in law, so we are out for tomorrow. We will make this loop at some point though - my wife wants to visit Jefferson...

Anyway, have a good ride and get some pictures!

OK, folks, the slide show is only needing to finish up the credit slides for the photographers that have contributed to this project. Check the lines below for any errors before they are cast in concrete (or electrons):

M38A1, Scott...done
DANNYROTH, Danny...done
FJR Bandit, David...done
ysr612, ?, need a picture and name
euromedic, Peter, need a picture
DFW_Warrior, Bill...done
lddave, Dave?, need picture
txbanditrydr, Jay...done
dword, Dale, need a picture selected

So, can ya'll get right on this? :lol2:

Everything else is filled in. Well, there is some poetic license concerning the truck pictures, but it is 100% photograghs by TWT folks. :thumb:

Gilk51

I have a had a couple of questions as to what type of "portrait" I want, so here are some examples:

Danny (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/meetandgreet/deeleons070913/danny_3584q.JPG)

Scott (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/TWTpics/participants/used/scott_3201q.JPG)

Bill (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/TWTpics/participants/used/bill_1865q.JPG)

BTW, guys, if you don't like these, I'll use any one that you provide. It will get massaged into something like this:

That should be easy enough.. I'm on the bike everyday.. so I'll just bring the camera to work tomorrow and get a shot for ya..
and maybe use Photoshop to take about 15 lbs off in the process..

OK, I picked one, dword is done. Still need:

a first name for ysr612, I could use a higher resolution picture, too

I've asked euromedic for a higher resolution picture, too

need a first name (I assume it's "Dave", but you never know with screen-names) and picture for lddave

"Higher" would be 800x600 or better - reduction is easy but You can't add in what ain't there!

I think I have the slide show finished for the TWT Everywhere Texas project. I sent links to the guys that submitted photos but I can't stand it - the response was good at our Tarrant County Friday night ice cream meet, so I'm going to make the slide show available. If I get any complaints, we'll just ECP it (gummint contract joke)... ;-)

These files are large and are EXE (executable files). If you are behind a firewall that doesn't allow these to be downloaded, let me know and I will make zips available).

Everywhere Texas - song only (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/everywheretexas2007song.exe) - 20 megabytes

Everywhere Texas - song with credits (http://www.texasarlingtoncs.us/pics/mc/photo_contests/everywheretexas/everywheretexas2007credits.exe) - 25 megabytes

I hope you enjoy it - several of us had a great time chasing down photographs for it. It is 100% constructed from TWT member's contributions.

I am working on a file that credits each of the photographs in the show but it's not quite ready yet...

Enjoy...
