Practically brand new bike, all stock. Enough power to get to freeway speeds and more. Has a sportbike look with low insurance costs. Very maneuverable, lightweight, and reliable design. Save yourself new dealer costs. Properly broken in, first service performed. Never stunted or abused. The bike has about 1700 miles. minor damage to right side fairing...got too close to a construction barrier, but bike never went down.

I am not in the market but a few more details (mods, add-ons) and the asking price would probably help...
(edit) I see this is on the CL link - I don't think I saw the link earlier...

Just curious, what is the reason you are selling? The GS is a fantastic bike, and I really enjoyed the time I spent with mine.

It's all stock like my original post says, I haven't even cut the fender off. Good point about the asking price. It's been fixed.

Like you said, the GS is a fantastic bike and I have also enjoyed my time learning with it. Just want something else now. You're on the gstwins forum too, right? Great site if you own a gs500. :thumb:

Yeah, I'm on GSTwins with the same username.

Not to sound offensive, but after 1200 miles (and just barely out of break in) do you think you're ready for a (I assume) more powerful bike?

If you're just switchin' to a cruiser, then good luck!

No offense taken. So how lond did you have your gs before you moved on to your next bike?

I'm just trying to see how much interest there is out there? If I don't sell it, I'll still keep riding it. We all change bikes sooner or later. I'm just thinking of changing sooner.

I rode mine for over a year, and put 11,000 miles on it. Everything from commuting, sport rides around Texas, a 550 miles round trip ride to Oklahoma in one day, as well as time at Deals Gap and a track day here and there.

It's just that the GS wakes up dramatically when you start using the RPM range. Power peaks at 9k-9.5k RPM, and the good stuff really starts at 7k. Both of those are way out of the break in area.

I was wondering the same thing myself. I've almost put 1200 miles on my new (to me) Strom and I'm still figuring things out on the old girl.

Likewise on my new (to me, though it was practically new when I bought it :trust: ) DR-ZSM. Nearly 1800 miles and I'm still getting used to it.

Told everyone my 05 VFR was lacking in power the first week, then I discovered the V-tech. 6,000 miles and I'm starting to learn to ride it.

01-22-2007, 04:23 PM
The only reason there are so little miles on it is I've never taken any long distance trips, just not into riding long distance yet. I've used it as an almost daily commuter. However the commute to work is only about 7.5 miles each way. I also use it to run errands which I don't need to carry more than a backpack of stuff.

What do you plan to replace it with? Gxxr, maybe a Busa. Good luck with the sale looks like a nice bike.

How'd you know? I'm planning on getting the 07 Busa! I'd like to go 200mph on one wheel. (Sarcasm<-- no smilie available).

No seriously, I'd like to get a used FI 600cc sportbike. I don't think I'll ever need more than that for the street.

My first "real" bike was the 2005 GS500F... I put 2000 miles on her, and upgraded to an 1150 GS :trust:

Its really not as significant of a jump as I had pictured in my mind. The most significant change is the sheer weight difference of the bike, but so far Im enjoying the weight increase as wind doesnt affect the bike like it did my 500. Now, I dont stunt either... but I wish the lad luck.

Do as your mother told you.... wear protection!

But I agree with the other posts, the GS500 had great punch for a 500cc bike. That was/is the perfect bike to learn on. Not enough power to ride on one wheel for long (without some fancy clutch work) but powerful enough to keep a big smile on your face. For short rides around town, I actually still wish I had her. I have to admit, the 500GS was the Perfect street beater for me.

I was just joking about the wheelie thing. I have no interest whatsoever in doing any kind of stunting. I'm just concentrating on riding smooth. I ride most of the time between 0-60 mph and now I would just like to get to 60 a little quicker.

I was joking as well about the wheelie. I hate wheelies...! My wife may read this <-- Wheelies are NOT for me.

Now that we've cleared that up, I agree with the 60MPH thing. The bike was so great, but cruising on the open road, it needed a taller 6th gear in my opinion just to lower the RPM a little doing 70-80.

I had her to like 108... it wasnt the top, but was very close. Great bike though. I'd get another one in a heart beat.

You still not having any luck selling this thing? I sold mine within 1 week and I really wasnt even trying to sell it.

I'd love to buy it for my wife... but shes not ready to ride on her own yet. GS500 was a great little bike.

When a friend was learning to ride I loaned him a Honda Rebel 450 to just scoot around the neighborhood and practice on.

He begged me to sell him the bike because "that was the biggest bike he would ever need".

I refused, telling him that, as his experience grew, he would change his mind.

Today he rides a Harley Davidson Ultra Classic. About the same as the Rebel 450 but not quite.

$3800 but the plastics stay the way they are? Whats wrong with them again?

I cannot believe you are having this much difficulty selling your bike. Also note, that prices dont always go up in Spring, as there are a flood of bikes marketing in spring/summer. Increased supply of bikes for sale. But... doesnt always work that way.

Email me some pictures at texascrude (at) gmail (dot) com

I will see if I can help you get the thing gone.

There are scratches on the lower right fairing. It's only cosmetic damage. There are no cracks and all the mounting points are intact.

I'm not sure either why I'm having difficulty selling my bike. I'll send you an email with pictures. Thanks for the help.

Howdy newskillz, :welcome:

Probably worth a try, but I doubt he'll go quite that low.

I need to contact two friends from church (father/son) that took the MSF course this last weekend - they are both new riders that need basic, cheap transportation (plus a few grins) due to just having a one car family. I'll try to get hold of them tonight or tomorrow (I was actually going to steer them to the ZR7S that was $2300 but it was long gone)

Oh yeah - skillz - check the Tarrant County Meet & Greet in the "Upcoming Events" section - we will be at Freebirds (near Hulen mall) tonight at 7:30...

No prob, I know it's worth more, just hoping perhaps you just wanted to get rid of it. Oh well, anyone know of a good street/sport bike 500cc out there? It's hard to find anything good used it seems, a few good spots at least. Good luck with your sale! Later

Hey Wever,

If you want to, call this number.

281 332 7811.

His name is Pat. If you dont need the bike for transportation, he will sell it for you. He handles all my mistakes, I mean old bikes. Very reasonable dude. Good work and reasonable prices, plus he's just fun to hang out with. He has a small shop with decent exposure to all the people trapped in cages on I45 and Nasa road 1.

Feel free to tell him I sent you, heck, he might have one laying around that you like.
