My name is Tim and I live in Denton. For my Bday this year i got myself a new toy and rejoined the two wheeled world of motorcycles. My last bike was a '85 xt600 which was stolen almost 20 years ago. While im having fun reaquainting myself to riding, I feel alone in the world because i hardly ever see any dualsport machines thumping by. So if anyone is nearby give me a hollar.

Seen any dirt action on the bike yet? Where would you go in your area for that kind of riding? Maybe you can get Dyna Sport to fix up his KTM and get him to come out and play with you ;-) He's up in your neck of the woods I think.

Red river ranch up NE of Denton in Muenster is THE place for that bike. :)

2500 acres of dirt riding heaven, from dirt paths to woods, to deep sandy creek bottom, ravines, climbing hills, climbing hills with ravines..

As much dirt and rough stuff as you can handle and full length enduro courses. I'm not in good enough shape to even finish them, well at least not when it's in the 90's outside but it's wide open to go wherever you want to as long as it's not a race weekend.

My KTM is going to be down for a while, I'll not pay to have the engine taken down(would cost as much as the bike is worth), so I have to get together all the stuff and do it myself.

I've been rather occupied and I think the FZ1 will be getting a new can, rejet and timing advancer plus a few other mods before I get to the KTM.

I'll have it done by spring though as I want to sell it off along with the Dyna most likely and get a more streetable dual sport. The Triumph tiger over at the dealer today was looking interesting. :twisted:

I WILL trailer it down to Huntsville first though and go out through the woods on it before I sell it though.

Having the bike now for several months I've made several discoveries and realizations. First off, I live about 2 miles from where I work and the bike is an absolute blast commuting back and forth. In whichever form it happens to be in (streets or knobbies) there is always fun to be had in short jaunts. I have found several places around town to play in the dirt as well, some where I am welcome and a few that I’m pretty sure I’m not.
I went to Rocky Ridge a few months ago on the bike; it was a pretty dreadful experience so I haven’t made the time to go back. It rained on the way there and it had rained for a few days before I made the trip, so when I finally got there it was a bog. Not to mention the joys of navigating the wonderfully curvy although wet asphalt roads on my barely DOT approved knobbies.
The biggest thing that keeps me from going back to Rocky Ridge or even up to Red River is a huge inner conflict about riding any distance to speak of. I just really don’t enjoy it and there are many reasons for this. The bike is not a tourer by any means. Its hard and its tall and I guess you could say its light for a street bike. This means I get blown around and my *** is numb soon after I get started. And then there is the gearing, for me to enjoy my time there I would set my self up with one gearing solution but that would make the trip less enjoyable and vise versa. But it is street legal and throwing it in the back of the truck seems like a softassed cowardly thing to do.

Yeah one thing about a dirt bike like that is that really have to trailer or truck it.

Well I have seen seats made for a KTM that are probably a bit more comfy, but then anything is better than that narrow lump of brick on it they call a seat. :)

Truck it up to red river, you won't be dissapointed. I've never been there after or during a rain though, might be a big mess then. This place is what KTM's were made for. It's about the only place I've ever taken mine besides a little park here in Grapevine I trailer to.

Just be careful, there are sections that are very extreme, rock cliffs and steep hills, and you CAN get lost there in that 2500 acres and run out of gas.

They have a state enduro championship race there though and there are usually one or two marked enduro courses, though I've never had the stamina to finish one. :) Maybe if I quit smoking... :roll:
