Not sure if this goes in this forum but...
I'm getting some aluminum parts anodized and wanted to know if anybody has some they'd like to throw into the pool ;-) (rearsets, small aluminum pieces, etc.).
I'd like to avoid things like: Wheels, Frames, fork tubes, etc.
There will be two batches, one clear and one black.
The more parts I put in the better. I'm thinking it'd be anywhere from $3 to $8 per part. You'll have to cover shipping each way.
Let me know if anyone is interested. I plan to drop my parts at the anodizer on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

I'd love to, but unfortunately I'm a bit far away. I've been thinking about anodizing some parts on my sv for a while just never get around to it.

- here is an intersting article on anodizing Ive been saving for a rainy day

- powder coating goes on like spray 'paint' and is then baked. Do not use your home oven for this (or for heating old 2 strokes to split the cases either) <g>

I'm in Ft. Worth.
That's a good website with lots of interesting pictures! Gives me many more ideas for things that I can throw into the pot too!

I've been contemplating striping the black paint of my VFR wheels, wouldn't like the get them adonized. any idea how much that would run?

would or wouldn't?
I don't know how much it would cost - I'd guess somewhere in the $20 / wheel range.

I would like to have my eccentric chain adjusters re-anodized. They are currently anodized gold and I'd like them black. Any idea what's involved in re-anodizing an aluminum part a different color? If it's feasable to do this, then I'm in.

Ok, so from skimming through the info - only aluminum can be annodized? How do I know if a part is aluminum?

The first clue is that it is non-magnetic, but others aren't as well such as magnesium.

So this would be a good way to "brighten up" or change the color of metal parts that have wear/rub marks?
Please pardon my ignorance. If I'm mucking up the thread I can take it to PMs...

I don't know the specifics on re-anodizing.
My estimate for the wheels was just that, an estimate. I could take them to the anodizer and if they quote me a number >$xx.xx then I could send them back to you.
Sqeaky, you're not mucking up any threads here!
I plan to throw-in some rearset pieces, possibly passenger pegs, kick-plates, etc. that I can come up with.

I believe anodizing is a more durable method of coating. I'd have to ask some of my friends up in MI who do it. I spent several years of my life powder coating products with low conductivity (i.e. wood and plastic), but do have a lot of other contacts in the production metal powder coating world as well. Most of the parts on our bikes are powder coated and those parts like heel guards will wear with repeated rubbing. It's this abrasive action which wears the powder coating off down to the raw metal.
Regarding someone elses question about re-anodizing my guess would be just like repowder coating things you get the best results by sand blasting and cleaning the original part. However I've seen some very nice two step powder coated parts, but usually you don't cure the first coat 100% before applying the second color.
I'd like to have my frame, subframe, fork tubes, and wheels powder coated. Then have things like my rear sets, pegs, and other accent pieces anodized another color all of which would accent the few copper pieces on the bike.
I'd love to have a black frame, wheels, and fork tubes, then have a few accent pieces in a bright almost neon green color. Both of them really accent copper color. I believe rizla had a race bike using the copper and green combo.

You can't anodize over an existing finish. The part has to be chemically stripped in a lye bath and then polished. I see a lot of places sell these hobbled-together do it yourself kits and I always advise folks to let a professional do it. The chemicals and voltages involved are nasty stuff, and to get a decent finish you have to very very carefully control the voltage in the solution. It's really an art form like welding.

You are correct.
I would like to get my pegs and heel plates anodized black. You still plan on doing this next week?
I don't have to clean them first do I?

All - it now looks I'll be doing some business travel in the next few weeks - I'll do the anodization when I return. This should either be March 12 or March 19.
