I traded the Virago in on a brand new 2004 YZF600r back at the end of June. Since this trade in, I have converted completely over to the motorcycle as my means of getting around. Well, I use it at least to get to and from work everyday. My wife still has a car, so I get stuck driving it every once in a while.
Also, I am scheduled to take the MSF basic course this weekend, so we will see how that goes.

:tab Nice looking bike. when are you getting an XR50 for the kiddo? :-P Hopefully, it won't be beastly hot for you. However, I would HIGHLY recommend a Camel Bak water pak for the class. It will keep you hydrated far better than the occasional water break they give you.

So, I take it the course is mostly done outdoors? I had pictured it as more classroom, and a little bit of riding. We did look at the 50s when we bought my bike. Maybe that is something we will get when the baby gets older.

:tab The course has changed since I took it. I think now there is a single classroom session. Then the rest of it is on the bike doing drills and such. Ask all the folks that just took it this last weekend. They have been talking about it in the Introductions forum.

Adios,
There are two classroom sessions now. In my three day class last weekend, Friday night and Saturday afternoon were classroom. Saturday morning and all day Sunday were on the bikes.
And, yes, take something to keep cool. I brought six bottles of water each day and burned through them before we were done riding. And this was with partial cloud cover.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes. :-)
