All right Chris...Once we have two riders it's a go.....Some of the best rides happen with little or no planning....
Let's meet at the East side of the Bolivar Ferry at 9:00 am Sunday March 11th.
Don't forget to reset your clock for daylight saving time...
We'll ride to the Cameron ferry, on the beach as much as possible, like we did before, but with a few little changes to avoid the pavement here and there.
Chris, can I get a ride back to your house after the ride and Linda can pick me up there...
Who else can make it????
Yes, you have a ride.
FYI: I'm parking & unloading on the west side of the ferry, some where.
Then ride across.
Confirmed riders:

Would you fellows mind if I hopped on my pyg and followed ya'll up the beach for a ways. I've always wanted to ride the beach up to Sea Rim SP, this looks like a good opportunity.
Probably won't ride all the way to Cameron, I'd have to slab it back to Santa Fe which would put me back too late.
Have a couple other riders that might like to get some sand on there bikes too.

Okay man it's amazing what can happen when you blink your eyes. I am making plans to do this. I'm going to ask Jeff if he wants to do it and I've asked a friend that I do some woods riding with if he'd like to borrow my 400 and come along.

There is a county parking lot at the Ferry landing and you dont have to wait in line to get to it , take the right lane and you will see it . I might get to play on the sand , If I do I will see you at 87 and the beach where it heads north at High Island , thats a lot easyr for me to get to . By the time you ride the ferry you should make it to High Island by 10:00 . I will be on the beach and I will post up Saturday nite to confirm . Hey Dawg I got a back seat on my bike . SEYA

Too many questions needing answers but.....
You need to be legal with insurance.
Cameron LA is the "turn around" destination....You can drop off the ride in many places if needed.
We are starting the ride at the East end of the Bolivar Ferry. at 9:00 am.
My cell # is 512 657-7678 if you're running late.....Call or get left behind!!!!
Bring snacks etc, last time we went to Cameron everything was closed.
We will stop at High Island, on the beach, for a few minutes to pick up any riders there.
Spray down your wheels and aluminum parts with WD40 before the ride to reduce the salt damage.
Last year we thought this ride would be really boring, although better than a good day at work.
We were so wrong, it was a blast.
The beach speed limit is 25MPH and there will be radar enforcement, probably around High Island.
My XR650R tends to fall over under 60 MPH so it should be an interesting time....
This will be a fun ride where everyone can play at their own speed.
Irondawg, you know you can have an XR650R, if you can make it.

Steve, I'd rather ride to the ferry and start with everyone else, but I've got some fiddlin' to do in the morning[helping my wife move the RV back down to the beach].
Anyone else who's joining up at H. Island, I'll be just past the intersection[on the beach] at 9:00am. Look for a white Chevy/Shasta 21' C. My cell is 832 233 1680.

You could take HWY6, that would keep you off the slab for the most part. hwy 6 runs into I45 just before the causeway bridge in Galveston......If you can't find a rider with a truck going your way. Or, you can meet up with me an XR Cajun, and ride in with us. That would limit your single rider exposure time on the super slab.

Guys, I'm brand new to this board. However, I've ridden a lot of dual sport rides (rode the terlingua ride in Nov.; thanks Steve). If I drive down in my truck, where do I park? Before or after the ferry? Also, is this ride something I want to do on my green DRZ400 with knobbies? I'm street legal but don't want a road ride.
I was going to go to Mena Ar. this weekend since I just laid out a route to Clayton, Ok. via the K trail but the weather up there is looking a bit cool and wet so that will be later.
Thanks, a guy that is getting older so I need to ride more now...

Thanks for the offer, but bearing in mind I am leaving my house at 5am, I want as much freeway as possible, I can do circa 70mph and not worry so much about deer and having to slow down for all the little towns. For once I am happy to be on the freeway.... my reward is many miles of dirt ( err, sand ) when I get there :-)

Anyone able to count how many riders this makes.....
My cell # is 512 657-7678 if you're lost or running late......
9:00 am leave from the East side of the ferry is the plan......
That makes 17 unless I missed someone. Updated post #1.

The answer would be "let me stay home and work on it instead of galavanting around Galveston"...
but I'll consider the offer and let you know before Saturday is over. You trailering the bike(s) down?

Yes, I'm going to trailer to the ferry. You are more than welcome to ride the Serow (no helmet guilt at all;-) ) - David

You might as well ride along , I rode my GC on the Texas side , no problums just stay out of the deep soft stuff . Its good practice for gravel patches on the pavement and you can slide around and roost with confidence after a little practice . SEYA

Okay, I'm going to be there. I just checked the GPS info and it looks like the highest area will be a whopping 7 feet so no jetting changes required. I'm going to try to park the truck on the Galveston Island side (any recommendations) and just ride the bike on the ferry. I assume bikes go to the head of the line. Thanks and see you all on the east side of the ferry at 9am.

Bikes do not get to cut and there is a county parking lot at the ferry landing for people the park and walk on , stay in the right lane and you will see it . Shouldn't be any problum getting on it's the return that may take a few minuits . At least you wont be alone , get refreshments before you get to the line and enjoy it . SEYA

You can always use the alernate method of counting Chris....
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 and another and another and so on.....
Sreiously gang, I'm amazed that we are getting so many riders for this one day fun on the beach ride....At such short notice as well....
Two guys are even driving in from Austin on Sunday morning!!!!
The great thing about the beach ride is it's really hard to get lost so we can spread out as far as we want to....
Do be sure to carry drinks, snacks and protein bars because we're not sure Cameron is up and open yet since the last storm.
Again....The rendevous is at the East side of the ferry, Port Bolivar, at 9:00am.....I believe you can park on either side.
Some riders may meet us at Rollover Pass and or High Island.
I'm riding from the Waffle House in Winnie, leaving there around 8:00 am if anyone wants to hook up there.....
The guys from Austin will take me home with them from Port Bolivar, after the ride.

This is really cool for my first "ride" with the DR and the group. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. Like I said before I am just getting back into riding and am really excited. Depending on the other bikes I could be running a close second for the smallest bike and I know will get the worst dressed award HaHa.

Instead of meeting everyone at the ferry Ronnie (my brother), vfrhugh and I are going to ride down tomorrow from Mont Belvieu and we plan to be at rollover pass.

It was great to meet everyone. Sorry I had to pull out but the sand was a bit too soft for the heavy GS. After losing sight of everybody within about the first 5 miles (25mph :eek2: ya'll all need to have your speedos checked :lol2:) I figured I had the wrong bike for the job.
Maybe next time we can do this before the Spring Break traffic munches up the beach too much.

25 years ago I drove to Cameron there was no beach where we rode yesterday , The ocean was lapping at the road . That was before the rock break waters were placed of shore . I think Texas could learn a little from the Cajuns here . SEYA

Guys, had a great time yesterday but sorry I had to bail out early (really sorry that I missed the top-less girls!). It was a blast and will add that I got stopped on the way back by two ranger guys that told me that dirt bikes weren't allowed on the beach. However, after pointing out that I had a license, insurance, etc. they said to have a great day. It was fun to meet all of you fanatics.
Great trip! Thanks to all who got it moving and for letting me ride along - great sand, great weather and nice to meet new people.

Wifey was all for it, but those dudes that send me paychecks had other ideas. I just explained to them that working for a living was really getting in the way of having a life. It never fails......I threatened to quit and got a promotion.....just what I wanted more money to spend on a bike I don't get to ride........
I was going to be a greeter at wal mart, but they won't let me have weekends off either.....
