Well, I'll be taking the not-so-straight route up to King's this Sunday and meeting up with Paul (Scratch). Anyone else that wants to join up for the ride up, lunch, or the ride out from there is welcome to come. The route will take us north and west towards Richardson, 3090, Navasota, then on to Lake Somerville and back.

I'll be at the Starbucks at 290 & 1960 by 10am, and we should be up at King's by noon(ish).

King's Cafe is on 149 just north of 105 in Montgomery.

If the weather is anything like last weekend, this should be a fun ride....

I wonder if we shouldn't try to meet at King's a little earlier, say 11:00 a.m.? As we saw last week, their service gets awfully slow once the noon crowd starts to arrive. Then again, we can simply make that our gathering spot and stop for lunch later. I know of a couple of places along the route where we can get a meal.

Hopefully not that little Mexican place out West of Caldwell, Rockedale or wherever we stopped at coming back from Austin... :-P

Figured I'd take a chance on an unfamiliar eatery that day since you were the only one with me. :-P

Anyway, there are some restaurants in Navasota and elsewhere that appear to get regular inspections from the local health department. Believe it or not, I actually prefer such establishments. ;-)

Looks like a great weekend. :bigokay: I'll be there ... just let us know when exactly the meeting time will be & whether or not we will eat there. Must have nourishment or else :miffed:

The filling station in Navasota is a good 50's style diner. Also the mexican restaurant 'las fuentes' or whatever is good too.

UPDATE - The stop at King's will be for hydration and regrouping, but lunch will be after we head out. The ride up from Houston takes anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours depending on traffic, so plan on us being up there between 11:30 and 12. If we're behind schedule, I'll call ahead to Paul to let him know.

See you guys there...

:tab I am not 100% I will be there. I think Bill is going to head back up to DFW Saturday night after we get done with his bike.

So meet where and when? I can meet at King's or Navasota or anywhere in that region really.

Scott, let me know if you can make it or not, and if you'd be willing to carry a passenger.

King's at noon, but I have no idea where Navasota is along the way or what time we'll be there. Scratch has the post-Kings plan.

I figure we'll be leaving King's shortly after noon, make our way up 149 through the forest, then continue on to Richards and Anderson, then hook a left on 3090 and head into Navasota. Lunch in Navasota about 1:30, then ride out towards Independance, Gay Hill and Burton. Burton will likely be the far point of the ride, then we'll hit some of the roads on the south side of lake Sommerville, and start making our way back from there.

pdef, I'm proposing that we do lunch at the newer steakhouse buffet on Hwy 6 in Navasota just north of the intersection with Hwy 90. They should have sufficient capacity to handle our group. You could meet us there if you like.

Are you talking about the Wrangler steakhouse in Navasota? It is decent but very pricey.

I will meet you guys at King's at noon. I did 149 a few times today but will gladly do it again. I love that area, nice twisty roads and the trees give nice shade. I want to do 3090 with you guys, I have only done it once since my accident and I was crawling, so I would to see your pace down it.

I think I will try and make this one as well I need to go to Sealy Saturday to see some family and then on to Cypress my father in law lives about 5 minutes from ***. I will try to be at the Starbucks if all plans work.

You'll need to stay ahead of me, then. I've had some confidence-losing moments recently and will be keeping a fairly tame pace.

i never blast down 3090. it always seems to be different....and i almost hit a deer in one of the northern most, blind corners of it the last time i rode there.

but i do love that road. :-D

bryan954,

Are you the bryan750-Bryan H. on HSN? If so, I think you ought to ride in front of the leader! When we rode last August, my bike never saw an engine speed below 13,000 rpm except at stop signs and for gas!! However Vit on his 919 let me in front at the church stop and the ZZR1200 waved me by him on the way to Burton. I had to really kick it in the rear end to catch up with John on his SV650!

I've got a new chain and am waiting on delivery of new sprockets. As a conservative my chain has gotten way tooooo kinky for me. I probably won't ride.

Have bike. Willl travel.

Rob

P.S. Now that I know who you are. I'd like to know how many sets of worn knee sliders have you sold over the internet since last August? :chug:

Scratch,

When you come to Anderson, go right at the stop sign not left. This will take you to the first Highway which I believe is 244 to Carlos. Watch out for gravel at the turn off to 3090. This way you can do all of 3090 in one ride to Navasota. Otherwise you will miss the best part of 3090.

Can I come if I don't take your position, and I won't talk about it either?

Squeaky

SURE! Haven't seen you lately Keith, so don't worry about where in the group you ride - just come out and ride already!

Hey Paul (Scratch),

Looks like I have to cancel on the Sunday ride. That darn problem I had last time with the bike not wanting to start has reared its ugly head again.

I think the Idle Control Valve may need to be replaced so Ill be tearing the bike apart tomorrow.

Darn, the weather is gonna be nice for ya'll!

Catch up with ya'll next time,

Darrell

Imma try to meet up with the Houston group at the Starbucks tomorrow. It's been way too long since I've hopped on the bike for the sole purpose of riding.

So um, what excuse should I use for not showing up for Church this week?

There shouldn't be a need for an excuse as long as you pray before every turn and twist on the road....

Hey Paul (Scratch),

Looks like I have to cancel on the Sunday ride.

Bums me out to hear that, Darrell. :-(

Let me know how it goes. If you don't get the problem resolved tomorrow, I'd be happy to come over and lend you an extra hand after work sometime next week.

Ok, looks like we've got a nice sized group together - 8 at Starbucks and then another 4 coming aboard at King's. Give or take, of course, things always change.

And of course, as Scott will agree, I seem to pick up strangers along the way... 8-)

I'll be the one gulping down enough coffee to wake me up on a Sunday morning

dammit i can't make it out. it's 4am and i'm still awake.

I don't know how, but I somehow woke up and made it. Met up with Squeaky's group at Starbucks; barely. I accidentally went to the Starbucks off of Jones and 1960. Noticed a Magna and another metric cruiser...hmm...probably not them. Headed back home and realized there was a new Starbucks right at the intersection of 1960/290 somewhat hidden. No time for coffee so I had to do this ride on 4 hours of sleep and no caffiene. Hooray.

The ride to Kings was fun.
The forest ride was fun x2.
Everything else was fun.

Thank you Scott for pulling my butt out when I got stuck. I was trying to catch up with the group after being stuck behind a cruiser. Came over the railroad tracks and didn't realize that turn was *that* sharp. I figured it'd be smart to go straight instead of risk lowsiding. Didn't fall, just went too far into the gravel trying to turn around.

I didn't get the name of the other fellow that was leading the remainder of the day...in the red Triumph. Thanks! It was a fun route. Today's the most fun I've had on my bike. Yeah, I should really get to the track.

All day I couldn't quite figure out where I've heard of Navasota before. Heading home I realized. "Dang, the motel we stay at for TWS is in Navasota...DANG we're far out."

It's the most i've ridden in one day and my glutes are in pain. Here are the pics from today

http://www.twinturboz.net/users/juicyhung/SV650S/rides/081504/

Things I've learned:
1. Get more sleep before a day of riding
2. Stay hydrated
3. Remember to zip up the jacket before you ride (probably related to #1)
4. Doc Martens make awful toe sliders

It was good meeting all of ya'll and I look forward to doing it again after my butt heals. I'm going to bed now.

Great Pictures Jesse. I recognize some of those bikes. Some of the people too.

The only riding I got to do today was ride to work to e-mail some files home to complete my taxes. I know, should have had them done months ago.

Hope everybody had fun.

I don't know how, but I somehow woke up and made it.

So that's why you looked half-asleep when you showed up and were still standing in line at Starbucks even when we were ready to roll out. I was wondering why so intent on getting the coffee jones, but it now all makes sense. :-)

Nice pics. Wish I could've joined you guys for the rest of the ride.

So I guess Paul (Scratch) was fine from his run-in with the bird?

Having fun is what it's all about. Glad you could make it today, Jesse, and I hope you join us again. Good pics too!

Sorry I missed the ride folks, I left Austin too late to make it to the Starbucks so I tried to catch up with you in Montgomery rode through there about 1:30 and Navasota at the Wrangler Steakhouse I made it there around 2pm but only a couple of cruisers in the lot. I rode on and turned on 390 and came out in Burton then just cut over to Round Top,and LaGrange and back to Austin. All in all a good riding day sorry I missed meeting you guys.
