those kinds of races/activities have been going on as long as messengering itself has, the video cameras and youtube are the only things "squidly" about it.
i met lucas brunelle at a singlespeed MTB race (a MTB-style version of an alleycat race), he smoked three ciggy's between the downhill and climb stages, and he beat out a cat-2 roadracer by two minutes for the win on the rattiest rustiest surly 1x1 i've ever seen.....
