Because my brother Craig, known here as hond330, was a member of this site and loved motorcycling, I felt that I should make this announcement.

Elliott Craig Roth, age 56, passed suddenly from this life on Friday, March 30, 2007, (edit) at his home in Forney, Texas. Craig leaves behind his wife and three sons. He also is survived by two brothers and one sister.

Craig introduced me to this site, for which I have thanked him several times.

Craig had just finished a job in Kansas. He was to start another project in the Houston area and was really looking forward to being closer to home and to riding Texas roads. We had planned on getting together and riding around East Texas, visiting some of the backroads and communities of my late grandmother's roots.

I am going to ride some of the roads we had talked about on Sunday, should the weather cooperate. I will be talking to him as we go. I can see a problem with my modular helmet, how am I going to wipe my eyes?

If you will, think of him as you go down a challenging twisty road he would have enjoyed on his V-Strom 1K or a rough country lane he would have loved to take his KLR.

Oh my. I had met him on one of the pie runs. Always switching between here & up north. Very sorry to hear this.

I am going to recommend this thread be moved to "gone but not forgotten".

Please let us know about arrangements. The families will be in my prayers.

Sorry for your loss Danny. I think you meant to say 2007 and not 1997.

I did PM Scott to ask him to move the thread. Can you change it, Chuck? I edited and changed the date up to yesterday. This is still like a bad dream, the mind is not processing information real well right now.

As a new member around here I did not have a chance to meet your brother. It appears that was my loss. I am so sorry for yours.

I have lost a few close friends but never a sibbling, so I can not truely understand your lose.

For tomorrows ride take one thought with you. Just past the vanishing point of every corner your brother will be there. Just out of sight but watching over you. I believe that the friends that I have lost are just round the next corner, just over the next hill, just out of sight but still looking out for me. It is a comforting thought, well for me it is.

Ride safe, My thoughts will be with you.

Danny, is the funeral also going to be at the same location as the viewing?

Danny, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Yogi, your thoughts about an 'absent/watchful rider' were very touching. Thanks for sharing it here.

I only met Craig once. He lived 2 miles from me and rode over for a ride to explore the back roads of Kaufman County on morning. The XR650L I had at the time wouldn't start due to erratic electrics so we never got to ride...

Really good guy. Sorry for your loss....

Deepest sympathies Danny... I had the pleasure of riding with Craig last Memorial Day weekend down toward Nach, over to Louisiana and back. He was a rider in every sense of the word and I enjoyed his spirit and attitude towards motorcycling. I am truly saddened.

WoW.. I was with him too. Very cool guy. I remember topping off the tanks in Nacogdoches and we (a couple bandits) escorted him into a western sunset on the way home to Forney. I remembered talking to him about the squidly behavior of the some of the younger riders that day and also being amazed at how many miles he already had under his belt and still had a long way to go. If I'm not mistaken, we took him on 343 to Rusk and then north on 768 to Jacksonville.

This morning (Sunday, 4/1) I set out on the BRP for a ride that Craig and I had talked about. Our late grandmother was born in Rockland and he wanted to visit the community.

From Love's Truck Stop, on Lufkin's Loop 287, I took 841 and 1475 to Huntington. Then I took 2109 to Zavalla, and US 69 south, into and out of Jasper County and into Tyler County. After I crossed the river, I turned left on 1014 into Rockland. Members of the Baptist Church were going in to services as I eased by. I then proceeded past a "Pavement Ends" sign onto a very muddy CR3400, which is on my "Moscow to Geneva" route. I went down this road several miles and decided to turn back, since I had a lunch appointment with my daughters in Nacogdoches.

I returned up 69 into Angelina County and made my way back to the house by following several of my favorite bumpy, and today, quite muddy, roads through Saron, Manning, Shawnee Prairie, Bald Hill, Homer, and finally, Fuller Springs.

I talked to Craig several times while riding, imagining him on his Suzuki DL1000 while on the twisties, and sometimes on his KLR650 while I was on the rough/muddies. It was a good ride. I miss him already.

Danny I am sorry for your loss. I never met Craig, but was looking forward to meeting him. The way your eyes brighten any time you talk about riding with him, I could tell there is more than just family relationship there.
