Motorcyclist decapitated by wire across path

An Italian motorcyclist has been decapitated after hitting a length of barbed wire strung between two trees at head height.

Marco Badiali, 48, an engineer and a father of two sons from Modena, was taking part in a motocross expedition at the weekend in the Apennine mountains with a group of friends from the Branco Lupi motocycle club.

Police said that there were no signs to indicate the origin of the wire, which was new. A spokesman said that Mr Badiali would not have been able to see the wire, because it had been placed just beyond a ridge in the path.

One witness told the police that the wire had been deliberately placed "in order to kill".

The group, including Mr Badiali, had been going to a nearby trattoria to celebrate the purchase of a new motorbike by one of his friends.

A spokesman for the police said the owner of the land which the group was crossing was not responsible. He said that another farmer was under investigation, but declined to name him.

The group said Mr Badiali had always sought good relations with the owners of the land on which they raced.

A few years ago, he had dressed up as Father Christmas and distributed presents to the children of all the farms in the region in order to show the group's appreciation for the use of their land.

Similar to the incident in San Jose CA a couple of years ago. Sad thing. And not only do I believe in the death penalty, I believe they should leave this world in the same manner that they caused someone else to leave it. Yep, I'm a heartless son of a gun.

Get the people that did this, get the people that hurt that poor dog, and start the slow torture and painful death.

Something very similar like this happened to a friend of mine in high school. He was riding his quad and someone had stretched a piece of thin cable across a road about chest high. He hit it on his quad and it sliced almost half way through his abdomen. He ended up being in ICU for 3 months, and then in a regular room for 3 more months. This forced him to actually fall a grade level behind.

People like that need to be thrown off a very tall cliff with lots of rocks at the bottom.

Kim brought up the poor little puppy, and I'm sure she's talking about the little spaniel pup that made news here in DFW for having it's muzzle wired shut so it couldn't eat or drink. Don't even ask me what I would do to that person that treated that poor puppy that way. Words can't describe how much of a dog person I am.

I think many share your sentiments about the puppy...

Very similar thing happened to me. I was on my quad and a farmer had strung up some cable on a trail adjacent to his land. Hit me across the neck. In ICU for 1 month, regular room for 3 weeks, and layed up at home for another month. 20 years later and I'm still not fully recovered.

Were there any consequences for the farmer?

Nope.
