View Full Version : Pie Run IV: Eating in Edom Edom,TX

Where: The Shed in Edom, TX
When: April 28th at 11AM
Directions (as provided by dutchinterceptor):
Quote:
From Palestine: Take FM315 to the left off of SR155 just north of the loop in Palestine. You can follow it all the way to FM279 where you will turn left and follow it into Edom(Shed will be on your right) OR you can turn left off of FM315 onto FM314 which will take you straight to Edom and dump you right into the Shed's parking lot.
From Rusk: Take FM 768 north into Jacksonville(lots of curves)....go north on US69 until you reach Mount Selman and turn left on FM855. Turn right on FM346....then turn left on FM344 and follow it north where it will turn into FM2661. Continue north until you reach SR64. Turn left on SR64 and then take an immediate left on FM279. This will take you straight to Edom(Shed will be on your right).
From Van/I-20: Take FM314 south until you dead-end into FM279....turn right and the Shed will be immediately on your right.
From Athens: Take FM317 east until you get to FM314.....turn left and follow it straight to the Shed.
From Canton: Wait.......don't go near Canton on the 28th....and definitely don't speed any where near the town...anytime. It's mecca for Highway Patrol.
Another "No Fly Zone" is a small construction area between Poyner and Chandler on FM315. The road is ok but LEO is definitely watching the construction zone.

NOAA shows Dallas, Palestine, Edom, and Houston are all at a 20% chance of rain - which they list as "slight". But it does look like it will be overcast all day.
Personally, I stopped listening to what the "local weather" guys came up with a long time ago. Switched over to NOAA for my weather - a lot more detail and about as accurate as you're going to get.

This sounds like fun... Since I am new here I would like to link up with other more experienced riders for the trip there and back. I am in Arlington near Arkansas Ln in the Green Oaks/ Little Rd vacinity. Chuck, I think we are practically neighbors, are you making the run? rbentdude,
A couple of the guys going with me are planning to leave Mesquite at around 9:30. They're supposed to meet me and another guy at College Mound United Methodist Church just southeast of Terrell at 10:00. It's on 429, half a mile south of I-20 off of the College Mound exit (exit 506).
From there we're planning on taking 429 south to 243, 243 east to 47, 47 south to198, 198 east to 316, 316 south to 1861, 1861 east to 2339, and 2339 into Edom. If you're interested in hooking up with us, we would be glad to have you along. I think they're planning on meeting in the movie theater parking lot there at Beltline and 80. I can get you a definite time and place if you're interested.
So far there are just four of us going together. The two guys from Mesquite are on a Vulcan 1500 and a Heritage Softail (with mufflers). They're meeting my brother-in-law on a Katana 600 and me on the Dakar - so we're a pretty diverse group.

I agree 100%. Flying helicopters requires us to have some clue about the weather and sources. I use some aviation resources, which basically come for NOAA, for all my planning. Hence, the "for whatever that's worth" comment. I think you correct about the local guys. They seem clueless a great deal of the time!!!

Yeah NOAA is the way to get weather, straight from the horses mouth as it were.
They have updated the forecasts in the last 24 hours and I see no mention of rain, seems they pushed the rain out until Monday or Tuesday from where they had it yesterday, Saturday shows cloudy becoming clear with a high of around 80 with a bit of wind reducing as the day wears on.
Looks like I'll be there with a couple of folks I'm dragging along. :)

Spent a little over a year in a Robinson R22 as a persudo navagator and photographer. Had a contract with what was Texas Commerce Bank to fly the state and photograph all of their reposessed properties. This was in the mid 80's so there were a lot of photos to take. While it was fun I'm glad I'm not doing that any more. Anyone who thinks riding motorcycles is dangerous has never been up in a helicopter. Especially a little R22!

Wow! You couldn't be more correct about that. I did most of my learning in the turbine powered machine I fly now (law enforcement deal), but did quite a bit in the Schweizer 300CBI. It was a great little machine. Been around a long time and very survivable. Many other folks were getting their ratings in the R22. That is a funky little machine, and the accident rates show it. It is the only aircraft the FAA has issued an SFAR (Special Federal Aviation Regulation) in regards to. I have successfully stayed away from them thus far. I have done some part time photography flying recently. Very fun stuff, especially with a new photographer. It's nice to see how much they enjoy the wonderful shots they are able to create from the air. Take care and be safe!

Chuck, I think we are practically neighbors, are you making the run?
I am in Junction this weekend. Riding Hill Country roads - did a rollercoaster numbered 335 today plus a distant cousin - 334...
Always look forward to the Shed - their buttermilk pie is terrific! :thumb:

It looks like you've already called them with an estimated head count, but it looks like I've added at least one more. My daughter might come as well, but for now I'm at least a +4.

It's night (or was), I was finally home after 240 miles, tourist stuff, photoed 2 court houses, talked with random bikers at stops (a father-son pair in Rocksprings - dad's Sportster from Del Rio, son's ZRX from San Angelo), eating at Junction's Cooper's BBQ, visiting the 'mergency room - I was tarred and wanted to "rub it in" like ya said...

Hey Gary,
I like your route. I'll try to make it over there via Bush/78 from Flower Mound, but don't wait around for me. Got up late...
