We are planning another Lone Star Motorcycle Museum (http://www.lonestarmotorcyclemuseum.com/) and 33X roads ride from Austin on Sunday April 22. We usually meet at the Albertsons parking lot at the Oak Hill Y (290 & 71) about 8:00am and head out at 8:30am.

This is a day ride out to some great roads and a good meal at The Ace Cafe (http://lonestarmotorcyclemuseum.com/_wsn/page3.html) inside the museum.

Bud,

Sorry about your plans for Barber next week but it will be fun having you along for this. I even have a good rear tire this time.

Andy, Life is all about change, I have spent hours in the Barber
mueseum and done trackdays there as well so I would really rather
be out riding rather than watching other guys have all the fun. I am glad
you will be free I always enjoy riding with you

You are more than welcome to come along. Pace ranges from moderate (say about 5 mph over speed limit) to spirited (Bud, :-P ). Its usually pretty good for anyone. As for distance, mid to up 300's depending on where you are coming from. But we do stop 60-90 minutes to relax so its usually not to hard on the body.

Okay, I'll try to make it, sounds like fun, I was just out there last week. If I'm not at the Albertson's by 8:30, I'm not coming.

I'll bring a GPS unit I have no idea how to use, but it looks really cool mounted on the bike. Don't need it out there anyway.

Blanco to Boerne to Bandera to VanderLeakeyCampWood? Sounds like 400 miles to me.

No way Scott! I hope you rode home, and didn't trailer.

I've read where people glass work one side of the damaged part, cure/sand. Then repeat on the other side. Unless your plastic is obliterated, this would be a good way out. I'll see if I can find the link.

It was on CR 170 (I think) between Wimberly and home, the turn tightened up more than expected, I tried to scrub off some speed with the rear but I hit it a little too hard so I grabbed some front and tucked the front end. I was doing somewhere around 20-25 mph and did a belly flop on the asphalt and slid into the dirt. The bike went down on the right side and took out all the plastic and the topcase went an additional 30 feet or so. When we hit the mud the bike turned around and got lodged in a barbed wire fence and was still running, I got up and turned the key off and started trying to pull the bike up. Andy (VFRinAustin) stopped and came back to help get the bike up and went through the fence to get the topcase. When we got the bike up I fired it up and tested the controls, they and the brakes were fine. We gathered up some parts but most of the plastic was beyond repair, we did save the mirror/cover, a relay and the front turn signal lens/socket that was in a piece of the fairing. We threw them in the topbox and took off, I was just ready to get home as it was already getting dark and raining heavier than it had most of the day.

I have a scraped up and bruised right knee, the scrape is more of a carpet burn type of scrape so it isn't bad and my left shoulder is a bit tender. I scrapped the chin bar and shield of my helmet, it was a real pain with the rain and my heavy breathing from the adrenaline fogging up my glasses with it closed. There is a little seam rip (about 3/4") on the right knee of my Firstgear HT Overpants, it is where the heavier duty material is sewn to the base material, my Hein Gericke Timbuktu looks the same, just muddy and I have a tear in the right toe of my Sidi boots but it didn't go through. I know that I am going to be sore tomorrow.

Andy followed me home to make sure everything was alright, we talked about maybe seeing if Lee could reshoot some plastic if I find a different color. I guessI will start looking for some on ebay, there is a guy in Denver with some that I found on TriumphRAT.net.

I feel sore and embarrassed, at least it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I am going to tear it down tomorrow after work and see what I need, I left most of the pieces there, it was too many to try and patch. I have half a streetfighter now....

whoa
04-22-2007, 10:23 PM
I really could care less about the vehicle, so long as me (and anybody involved) gets out clean.

Don't get caught up in embarrassment or pride issues. The most important thing is you have a clue what happened. This puts you way ahead.

I've caught myself getting a bit hard on the rear when I get into a turn too hot. This is my primary motivation in getting out for a track day, and having an accomplished rider give me some critique.

Bandage the beast up, and go get your Tiger. Really glad you came out of this one good, barring the pain from biting asphalt. Gear is good isn't it? I've no interest in trying this with T-shirt and tennis shoes.

Lets see how that Sprint looks naked. You might be onto something.

04-22-2007, 10:23 PM
Hey Scott give Lee a shout, I will PM you his Cell. You should
be able to get exact color match paint at the Colorite website
as they offer factory paint packs, unless you just decide to
go with a new color.

Glad you are not hurt and only banged up. I figured your bike
to have a tip-over for the ignition, isnt it fuel injected most FI
bikes have a tip over switch.

Man no need to be embarrased, every body makes a miscalculation
and with the weather and it getting dark nothing to be embarresed
about in my book. Just glad it turned out the way it did and not
with you getting hurt any worse.

Bikes can be patched or purchased easy enough
If you need any help let me know

The bike wasn't laying flat, it was propped up against the fence, I guess since it was a slow drop and didn't bounce around too much that it didn't trip. Which was nice since I was able to fire it up and head home.

Well, it had been over 25 years since the last one of these. So I can only hope I go as long before the next one.

Checked over at Color Rite and the first
Triumph I found a color for was an 05
Sprint in Caspian blue but it looks close

Glad Andy was still with you. Riding with buddies is a good thing. Plus, the more folks to get parts gathered up and git on down the road. Nothing to see here folks.

You say you like the black Tiger? ;) May need to have a south Austin bike night to get some war stories out of you.

bluedogok
04-22-2007, 10:45 PM
The 2000 is sapphire blue, it is a DuPont color. Someone on TriumphRAT posted a color list of all colors Triumph used, I saved the PDF file so I have the color number.

If the black was the same as the Sprint metallic black, I would consider it but I will have to go with the caspian blue...next year.

Glad to hear you are OK Scott. I had a lot of fun with you guys and the roads were great, got to figure out that route and do it again on a sunny day, then I'll throw in the sisters. Coming back through K'ville I only saw a very little bit more rain and for the most part the streets were dry.

Thanks for the offer loki, but I rode it home, it was fine just some plastics damage.

Russ - We had maybe a 100 miles of sun on 335 and 336, everything else was mostly the same drizzle we had going out, there were a few cloudbursts on the way home. Nice looking new bike you have there, you will need to bring it out to a bike night.

Nope, about 20 miles from Austin.

The cedar chips are all still there on 337, they really uglyfied that portion stripping everything back, even the trees that were 10 feet above the road.

I've had some rougher days on a sailboat in an Oklahoma wind, the boom can hurt since you aren't wearing a helmet.

Boy, I have never seensomeone take something like that so in stride. Scott was right back up and by the time i got back to him he was already up and trying to get the bike out of the wire & mud. I asked him if he was ok and he looked me square in the eye and said matter of factly "I am fine, I just want to get this back up and get home". I was a little suprised by home much the plastic exploded into little pieces, only of couple of larger pieces were left.

Glad it was only a few bumps, bruises and scrapes Scott.I have to admit I was mare than a little scared that it would be worse than it was (things in the review mirror appear more dramatic i guess). I was pretty wound up most of the evening at home afterward. i am really glad it wasnt worse.

Other than Scotts get-off and my lost MP3 player, it was aproximately 8 wet hours of riding for 2 hours of absolutely beautiful roads. But should have expected the rain, we brought Bud along. Someone should check that boy for webbed feet.

Hey ease up my the feet:lol2: Or I will tell your wife you have been surfing for a better Ipod and just set this one free

I bought my Rex when it was raining, rode it home in a downpour so its only natural to have its weather about when I ride it:mrgreen: Besides everbody rides when its:sun:

Honestly, I enjoy riding in the rain, I feel it improves your riding as it makes you concentrate on being smooth and picking good lines. Smooth and comfortable in the wet will greatly improve your dry riding

Scott, glad to hear that you are OK. Just give me a holler when you're ready for paint. I'll be glad to do it for ya.

I had a great time Sunday. My first time doing the 3 sisters loop. I'm already looking forward to the next time. My first trip to the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum. Great place! Became a lifetime member. They have some really cool bikes and a dang good burger. We had a great group, I enjoyed riding with everybody. Now if we can just cure Bud of his penchant for rain!
