FORT WORTH — A motorcycle driver’s attempt to avoid a collision with a wrecker Sunday ended in tragedy after he and a female passenger were thrown off the bike, police said.
The motorcycle did not hit the wrecker, but driver Ramiro Flores and his passenger, Felicia Flores, both 32 and from Saginaw, were thrown from the motorcycle and struck the wrecker, said Detective R.D. Wilson. Felicia Flores was pronounced dead at Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital at 9:13 p.m., about two and a half hours after the wreck.
Ramiro Flores was listed in critical condition at Harris Methodist Monday afternoon.
Investigators said the wreck occurred about 6:40 p.m., as the wrecker was in the left turn lane of southbound North Main Street at 34th Street.
Sgt. Rodney Banks, supervisor of the traffic investigation unit, said the wrecker driver was preparing to turn but stopped when he spotted the motorcycle traveling north on Main Street in the outside lane.
The motorcycle driver, apparently unclear if the wrecker driver was going to stop, braked, causing him to lose control, Bangs said.
The bike slid past the wrecker, throwing the man and woman off and into the wrecker, Wilson said. Both were wearing helmets.
The wreck remains under investigation, police said.
According to a police report, the wrecker’s driver, 50-year-old Victor Solis of Fort Worth, was arrested for driving without a valid license. While officers were arresting Solis, the report states they found what appeared to be a crack pipe and a bag of a white powdery substance that was possibly cocaine in his front pant pockets.
The report stated Solis did not appear intoxicated at the time of the wreck.
