Well Im going to start a thread here to continue our discussion.... For the weekend of September 11-12. I checked and the A&M football game starts at 2:30 for those who want to attend (myself included). We could get together for breakfast saturday am and go for a short ride, be back by noon or so how does that sound? Im open for ideas on Sunday after about 1 o'clock.. any other suggestions?

HiSPL

I'd be up for that, but I have to work the game..... I would need to be back by 11:15 or 11:30 to get there on time.

HiSPL

Check that.... I have to babysit saturday morning. If you meet for breakfast I could drive the cage and bring the kiddos.....

If y'all go Saturday morning I may be able to go. The wife will be on her long weekend. That is if y'all don't mind a cruiser in the mix.

I may have been committed to go to a wedding I don't want to go to for people I don't know. I can't remember if it's this saturday or at what time.

So basically this post was meaningless :-D I will check back with my available times. Will Chris have a running bike by this week?

Your post is not meaningless. It think most of have been in a similar situation where we have to go to a wedding for a cousin's barber's neighbor. I'm glad to see there others that have experienced the pain and agony of why?

Wish I could join you folks, but I'm scheduled for a tire-changing session next Saturday.

The comments about weddings reminded me of a funny thing somebody told me once -

Friends and relatives used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs with a sly smile, telling me "You're next!" They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

Use that line a couple of times and you probably won't have a problem with being invited to weddings or funerals anymore. ;-)

Ok Saturday morning is good for me. Do we still want to meet at Rudy's?
What times and route do you guys want to ride?

AggieVFR

I got the regulator in today and I'm up and running again! :-D no more waiting for the bus or walking half way across campus to catch the bus. :chug: Where and when do we want to meet? As long as I'm back before kick off, I'm good. I guess once we nail down a time and place we can figure out a route for the ride. I'll be bringing the Honda pro polish for the love bugs...

As a side note, my new regulator is almost completely heat sink. Totally different than the Honda part of 12 years ago. On the ride back from work, it would limit the charging voltage to 13.1 volts at speed. Before it would be at least .5 volt higher. :scratch Who knows.

Im game for meeting at rudy's for breakfast, I heard they have good breakfast tacos... As for the time, when do yall want to get up, also depends on how long we are riding. By the way I have no idea where to ride, I havent ridden in the area long enough.. so if someone could step up with a good route and when we would need to leave to return by about noon or so that would be great.

8-9am; meet, greet, and eat at Rudy's.
10am kickstands up.

As for route, we could do 30 to 244 to 149 through the forest and back, maybe catch 3090 if we're brave. It's an oldie but a goodie and I dunno if Adam has done it yet. What do you think?

pdef
09-08-2004, 02:46 PM
And if that is too long a route we can drop the forest or just leave earlier.

Sounds good to me, As long as yall know the route I will follow.. I may be a little slower but I can keep up... 8-9 sounds good to me

I now have to be at work at 9AM :-? . If you guys meet at 8:00 I could come have breakfast and split for work.....

AggieVFR
09-08-2004, 05:05 PM
Sounds like a plan. I've done the route a million times since it takes me to my grandparent's house. :-) We don't have to set the world on fire with our pace, so we can ride at whatever we feel comfortable with. If it seems to fast for anyone, we can slow down.. I for one, will be staying pretty close to the speed limit since I got a few tickets last year for not paying too much attention to my speed. There probably won't be much patrolling at that time of day, but I'll be cruising just the same. Maybe that'll make me the caboose. As always, watch for gravel and objects in the road, but I guess we can talk about all that Saturday morning. ;-)

Just need to give my chain a little TLC this evening, and I'll be ready to roll. Does anyone think Rain-X would help to keep the bugs from splattering all over the bike and helmet???

It might make them easier to clean off later. Some people spray PAM on their cars for the same reason.

2 hrs from the SW side to Huntsville? I gues you do ride pretty slow :rofl

Squeaky
09-10-2004, 04:13 PM
Not to Huntsville, to College Station. I've never ridden up there the direct way - I'm taking Mapquest's word on the 1 hour and 53 minutes it says it will take.

Low - I'm leaving between 6 and 6:30 from my side of town. let me know if you're up for it - Rudy's is a BBQ place in College Station. I ate there last weekend for lunch during a ride, and I'm looking forward to meeting the BCS crew and seeing what Rudy's offers up for breakfast.

Tourmeister
09-10-2004, 04:35 PM
The most direct route is to head out Hwy 290 to Hwy 6. Just watch for the LEO because it is a game weekend for A&M and they will be out in force!!

Adios,

Rudys is on Harvey Road in College Station... going north on 6 exit at the Huntsville exit take a left and go under the bridge its about a mile or so up the road on the left. I actually live on Harvey Rd so It will take me a total of about 2 minutes to get there

AggieVFR
09-10-2004, 05:34 PM
It probably won't take you as long as Mapquest estimates, and the route we're taking tomorrow is actually the way I go to Houston when I visit my folks. It's about 20 miles longer than going the direct route, but I save the direct route for the truck. What's 20 extra miles when you're on two wheels? :-D See you in the morning.

I was hoping you guys had a time frame to go along with the ride plan. I have to be back in Houston on the west side of town for work by 1:00. You think that's possible, or will I have to break away from the group ride? Either way I'm still meeting up for breakfast.

Let's hope Rudy's has decent coffee!

If we do 149, you can just break off in Montgomery.

I'm glad I finally got to put some faces with some names. Thanks for a great ride! I got home and immediately hopped to cleaning off all the darn lovebugs from the bike and the helmet. I didn't get to the jacket until after the game, but we won for a change, so scrubbing love bugs wasn't so bad. ;-) Hope to see everyone again soon. :-)

Aggies sweep Wyoming 31-0

Yes it was a great ride today... I got home and cleaned the bike and helmet.. Filled the tub with hot soapy water and tossed the jacket in before i left for the game... After it soaked I ran a soft brisstle brush over it and presto its clean again. I had a great time getting to meet some of the people on here and learning some of the local roads. Looking foward to some future rides!

I had a lot of fun up there getting to meet all you Aggies and riding around on 3090 and 149. I wish it wasn't so far from Houston, or I'd be up for it more often.

Maybe we'll convince some of you to ride down and meet us halfway...

It was definitely nice to put faces to the names here. I had a good time but riding with y'all has given me the bug again. I'll have to do something to divert my attention or I'll be buying another bike soon..... My Speedmaster is comfortable but I sure miss those sportbikes.

Oh, and congrats to the AGs for beating Wyoming High School....... :nana

ICE CREAM!!!
I'll make another trip up for that!

Tourmeister

FM 390 out to Burton is a blast. Brenham is not far from there. You could backtrack on 390 to Hwy 36 for a quick shot down to Brenham.

Adios,

Hwy 30 to FM 50. Got some straights for about 5 miles in the bottom but then it gets pretty interesting. 50 hits 105 right on the outskirts of Brenham and then take a left on 577 and your at the creamery. ;-)
