Yes, there is a class for every skill level. If you follow this link, http://www.storm-racing.org/ it will provide you with most of the details. I'd be more than happy to help you with any questions you may have. The Open D class maybe the best one to try first.

I thought I might add a little extra info for you. I copied the info below from two posts on TON that Naga418 and Pops made in reply to a question and comments from a first time racer...........
Fire
I have not been on the course yet, but have been riding at Outlaw for years. This will be a race to challenge yourself and based on the general terrain it is a perfect place for a first race or a first race back after a layoff. My buddy Pop's laid out a lot if not all of the course and he likes the woods. He did tell Rooster to "bring a fast bike", but don't read too much into that.
Come on out and have some fun.
Naga is right I like the woods but the weather is dictating what we can use. There is more open than usual although there is some challenging sections. Outside of the m/x tracks there really isn't any jumps. Except for the Camelbacks which is an easy, fun photo oppurtunity! Course should be close to 10 miles.
Everything I hear is that the track is starting to look real good for the race. Some areas had to be removed due to the wet stuff but it will still be a great course for beginners to the seasoned riders. Pops is known for his ability to lay out some of the best race courses around these here parts.

Things are really starting to look up. The place should be in great shape for racing. Right now the track is right at 9.3 miles for the Sunday races. The 50cc track is around 1.8 miles and the 65cc course is 2.9 miles.
Get those bikes ready and join the fun.
From Pop's post on TON
See what ya'll think of the "elavator" shaft drop!
Dan (XLR8) says you will love my tight woods, he doesnt!
WORD OF CAUTION, THE WAY WE ARE RUNNING THE DOUBLE DIP, IT IS A DOUBLE. There is a second drop!
Pass the word.

A little additional info from TON.
The xs and 80s course should be around 4-4.5 miles and flows really well I think yall will like it. The Sunday course flows great also and has several hard easy sections that will make excellent photo opps. We hope to see a bunch of yall there the club has worked very hard to create a great course for everyone and so far the property is in excellent shape! We look forward to seeing everyone next weekend.

We have concessions confirmed for Outlaw Trax this weekend. Concessions will be provided by Crosby Church. They are the ones that did concessions last year at our race. They had great burgers and hot dogs so please support them at the race.
They will be there Saturday and Sunday during practice/race hours and stay a little past that time.

Many questions.
1. My KX100 has 99cc engine, 16" rear wheel and 50.8" WB. It does not seem to belong any category. Now what do I do?
2. I can be there only on Sunday. Do they accept Sunday registration? Or, do I need to be there on Sat. as well?
3. How do you determine the winner?
4. Any obligation other than yearly membership fee to be a STORM member? (maybe not appropreate question on this forum. Sorry...)
5. What is the minimum gas range I should have? My bike has only 1.5 gal tank...
6. Registration at the event is accepted?
I have no idea what I will gonna need to do. Your help is really aprpeciated.
Thanks!

Many questions.
1. My KX100 has 99cc engine, 16" rear wheel and 50.8" WB. It does not seem to belong any category. Now what do I do?
I'll do a little checking and see what I can find on the bike size. I know there have been some big wheel 85's racing on Sunday and I would think the KX100 would also be legal but I'll do some more checking.
2. I can be there only on Sunday. Do they accept Sunday registration? Or, do I need to be there on Sat. as well?
Sunday is fine. There are several others that can't make it on Saturday.
3. How do you determine the winner?
STORM uses transponders to help keep track of the times and position on each racer. There is also a couple of people in the scoring trailer that will record the racer number and time each comes thru scoring to back up the electronic scoring system.
4. Any obligation other than yearly membership fee to be a STORM member? (maybe not appropreate question on this forum. Sorry...)
There is no further obligation for STORM members.
5. What is the minimum gas range I should have? My bike has only 1.5 gal tank...
The track at Outlaw is a 9.8 mile loop. I would suspect most racers will do two laps so a bike with 20 mile range would be best but the minimum would be 9.8 miles. We will have a Pit located at/near the scoring trailer where you can leave a gas can to fill up with if needed.
6. Registration at the event is accepted?
Yes, that will not be a problem. They will also have numbers available to purchase so you don't have to worry about not having the right ones. I'm not sure if they have transponders for rent but you might ask about that otherwise you can purchase one for $20 and not have to worry about a transponder for any future events. The transponder is also the same one used by several different race organizations in the state so you would be set to race in their events also.
I have no idea what I will gonna need to do. Your help is really aprpeciated.
Thanks!
Ken
A little additional info. For Sunday only your fee will be $35.00. The fee for pratice on Saturday and racing on Sunday is $40.00. Spectators are charged $7.00 for the weekend which will cover both days of the event. These fees are all handled at the front gate. The gate worker will give you the paper work to fill out which you will then carry to the scoring trailer so they can get you on the books for the race and in the scoring computer. Transponder fees/STORM Membership/and bike numbers are all handled by the scoring trailer. Cash or checks are accepted for both the front gate and any STORM fees.
I'll do a little more checking on the bike and get back on what I find out. I think you will have a blast and the course is going to be a good one.
Be sure to arrive early enough to get signed up which usually only takes a few minutes and will give you time to make the parade lap. Without practicing on Saturday you will want to at least ride the track one lap before the race.

Ken your first race should cost you around $80 total. $35(Sunday) for the gate fee and then $20 for the transponder and $20 for the STORM membership. The transponder is yours after you pay and will not have to pay that fee again.
I attempted answer all your questions earlier but Hemi got to it before me. I am concerend about the 52"WB requirement.

Tony & Tim,
Thanks for your quick response!
I have CRF150F which has 16" rear and over 52" WB for backup. The problem is it is a fun ride bike and made slow...
I may need to consider getting decent race bike. Maybe next year...
Thanks!

Ken,
I just got word that the KX100 is not a legal bike for the adult classes due to the 50.8 wheelbase.
For this race I would ride the CRF150F and sign up for the "K's." This way you would be able to see if this is something you want to do before purchasing another bike. It will also let you see what size bike you might want to look for so you can then race in what ever class best suits you for future races. Alex rides a 125 in the 250 class at this time. We have talked a time or two about letting him race my 450 but he likes his bike too much and he enjoys his current class.
So don't let the bike keep you from racing this weekend, after all most folks like to see what it's all about before they start getting too serious racing Hare Scrambles.
For the most part, the "K's" are just starting to race and makes for a good starting point. I'm signed up in the "J's" but I haven't raced yet. One of these days I may decide to race but for now I just function as Alex's number 1 fan, parts purchaser and take care of the cooking when we camp out at a race.
If you come on out to race Sunday, look for Alex's blue Dodge Dakota crew cab and/or our bikes, B13 or J13 at our tent somewhere up around the pavillion and we will help you get signed up or answer any more questions if needed. I'll be one of the course marshalls so I'll be headed out to a section of the track to work prior to the parade lap but I'll be more than happy to help you up until that time.

Mr. Tony,
I have one more question.
I understand "K" equals to Open D class.
The rule book said Open class engine size is 251CC & up, but my CRF engine size is 150cc. Now what do I do:-( ?

Ken,
I think you just found a hole in our rules. The open D class (K) has always been for first time racers on any bike. No one has questioned that before, that I know of. I think you are ok, but let me check.
Edit: Ken you are good to go. The K & Z classes are open to any size bike 86 cc & up with a 52" wb. Look forward to seeing you.

Kyle was playing baseball today but Alex did practice and took the Elevator Shaft drop into the creek, looks worse than it is but we also have an easy route around it. The shaft is the shorter of the two paths. Be sure and have your camelback full.

It was a great race!
Great weather, great course condition & excellent course setup!
I was 7th out of 19 in beginner open class with CRF150F. Raced with some bigger bikes (and some smaller ones). I think it was fairly nice I result. Very tired, but was fun!
The "elevator shaft" was literally a elevator shaft. You drop to bottom of the double dip, about 10 feet high, from 90 degree cliff. Or at least you feel like that. I did not want to go there first, but rider behind me did not let me turn around to take escape route, so I just jumped off. It was not that bad after all, though. By the time you realize, you are already at the bottom.
Alex,
Congrats for 4th in 250 class!
Tony,
Thank you for pushing my back to join the race! I had great time!
Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed it Ken and congrats on your 7th place finish in you first Hare Scramble. Some times the best way to enter something like that Elevator Shaft drop is to be forced over it :eek2: the first time. It sure makes the next time a little different.
Sure wish we could have had a little water on the track but it wasn't too dusty over where I was.
I had a blast watching everyone drop down the shaft and then climbing back out on the other side.
I'll see about getting some photos posted in an After The Dust Settles topic.

Mr. Pops,
Thank you for the course work! It was a little bit challenging for me, but i can tell it was well planned for everybody to enjoy the race.
I was watching 2-hour race at Double Dip. Seems no one crashed when going down. I saw a couple of guy jumped off the uphill, and landed at the bottom of the second dip and dropped the bike. Other than that, it seemed smooth.
Your son might think I was the meany guy. My CRF150F is not that fast, but the muffler sounds like a fast bike. It worked good to give pressure to the riders in front of me... My number was K35.
Thank you!

I did not do the elevator shaft. On my 1st practice lap Saturday some one was down at the bottom, so I went easy. The 2nd practice lap I went easy again & passed the rider that was in front of me before we got to it. I passed another rider in practice on the second hard easy. As a result I went easy race day & passed or came out in the same position. I figured it was better to take the easy than take a chance that someone was down or stuck out of site when I committed to go hard. I did do the 3rd hard every lap. The double dip has become the norm, since we do it every race.
We had a good race in the over 60 class (G). 2nd thru 5th finished within 9 seconds of each other. We were 50, 53, 55, 59 behind first place. I was 3rd. Another interesting thing was that 3rd, 4th & 5th places did the fastest laps in the class the last lap. Boy was that fun.
Ken I looked for you to no avail.
Thanks to all MSRA that helped with the event. It all went well. the trail lay out was awesome & I had a very good time.  :rider:
