My son and I are going down to Fredericksburg over Memorial Day weekend. Attached is a map of a loop we have planned while there.

Anybody got any suggestions on improving the route/things to see?

Those are all good roads. Only thing I would add is a quick run up from Hunt to the Stonehenge replica. It's only a few miles and worth the visit.

Thanks, I'll do that. I've heard about it but have never seen it. Thanks again for the reminder.

You might think about taking 39 to 187 down past the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum in Vanderpool ;-), then taking 337 over to Leakey and 336 up to 41.

That nails all 3 33x roads, puts you at the Ace Cafe (at the museum) at perhaps a good stopping point for food and Old Bikes, and you can run the one twisty section of 337 twice. :rider:

This would definitely add a few hours to the ride, so if this one is already timed nice for the day, then never mind. ;-)

If I recall, 1376 is nice and takes you by the Luckenbach photo-op ;-)

You're correct, FM1376 does go by Luckenbach. Thanks for the input. I'll research those other roads to see if I can fit them in. The loop as I have it drawn covers about 260 miles, so I'll have time to add more.

Thanks,

Actually, those 260 miles make for a good long day. Instead of taking 16 from Fredericksburg to Kerrville, you can also ride Old San Antonio Rd, from 290 (Cain City is the name of the little town, right next to Luckenbach) to Comfort, then 27 to Kerrville, picking up your planned route. This will add 10 miles or so and slow you down, but there are some very nice sharp turns where you hit small streams. Texas Stonehenge and the other 'modern' sculptures (image similar to the heads on Easter Island, etc.) outside Hunt are worth a photo op - I came across several deer there and the flowers are gorgeous this year.

The Lone Star Motorcycle Museum is not actually on your route. When you get to Vanderpool on 337, the museum and cafe are just north of the jog in the road, near Lost Maples State Park. Their collection is worth the brief side trip.

Enjoy!
Jose

Im actually riding this same area, nearly the same route, except Im doing 335,336, and 337. Here is a snap shot. if you follow the thumbnails you will see I backtrack just slightly on 337. I will be doing this ride on sunday before memorial day, weather pending of course. My route is 220 miles according to MS streets and trips.

That's a good route. That's also the same day we'll be riding around there. Look for an '06 ST1300 and an '06FJR. That'll be my son and I.

Ride safe,

I've done kirby's loop several times and the cool thing about it is getting to do the 337 stretch between Vanderpool and Leakey in both directions, throwing in 336 and missing the boring plato section of 39 and 41.

Roberts loop has 46 in it which is also a favorite of mine. I would suggest that you incorporate the 187 and 336 portions to it, then you'd have all the good roads covered. Next trip you could take in the sweepers north of Barksdale on 55 and a run down to Bracketsville on 674 then back towards Campwood on 334.

Ya'll have fun...

Where is the Stonehenge replica located. I'm thinking of changing my route to incorporate some of the suggested roads, but would like to see the Stonehenge thing.

Thanks,

Good route from FB to Kerrville via Comfort (27) I took a couple weeks ago is:

As your traveling 16 southbound from FB turn left on Old Kerr HWY. This is the intersection where Leyendecker Road on the right side of 16 meets Old Kerr HWY on the left side of the intersection. After a short ways on Old Kerr HWY go Left on Bear Creek Rd. After a ways on Bear Creek there will be a fork in the road. Take the right fork which is Center Point rd to Bear Creek then left on Cypress Creek rd (1341) then right on Schladoer to Wilson Creek then right on 27 to Kerrville.:rider:
