I guess I had better include one of the "Elevator Shaft" but this photo just doesn't do the drop any justice. I know I have some more that may show it better. I just need to go thru them and see what I can find.

I also have a couple hours of video I need to go thru and see what I can edit down to shorter clips. Kyle took a few pictures and videos also so once I can get his camera set up to down load I will post his pictures and videos.
I did hear a couple comments from others that were watching the race at this location and had been to another location or two, seems they didn't realize how fast some of the bikes were moving thru the trees. It also caught them off guard when they saw a couple riders using a NASCAR trick, ie "bump passing." It about threw them for a loop to see a racer bump the rearend of the other bike to get him to move over.

Nice! :rider: That drop looks like stuff I used to ride on my mountain bike.

I've had a little sleep now and thought I'd add a few comments.
The kids and womens races on Saturday were great. I think I had the best location for watching, I mean working the 50's and 65's. I was back in the woods and was getting to watch them use their skills in a couple of interesting sections. I had a small creek crossing, a couple of jumps, a very sticky mud hole that would stop a 50 in its tracks, and a slight off camber turn, and a tight turn thru the trees which were all located at the end of a high speed section. Those kids did great  and I only had one bike get stuck in the mud hole.
The womens and 85's races also found me in a fairly good spot, except for the skeeters. They were coming out of the woods and climbing up on the tank dam before turning back into the woods. No one had a problem in the location so I was able to watch the racing and not have to do any real work.
Great day so far...............What could go wrong? Not one single bike had problems coming across the tank dam so why would the course marshall? I don't know what got into my bike but it might have got stung by one of those yellowjackets I saw, cause the next thing I know she done kicked at something and threw me over the handlebars :lol2: I can remember as I was flying over the handlebars that my new radiator guards are sitting in a box waiting to be installed. Luckily I landed on my head and shoulders after flipping then tumbled over into a face plant. Thank God Mike Stanley wasn't there with his video camera or I could have been the next star of a "When Bikes Go Bad" video. Got up, checked around to make sure no one was looking, checked and found nothing wrong on the bike except maybe where she had been stung by that yellowjacket and then made sure I was ok,,,,,,,remember I landed on my head so I knew there couldn't be anything hurt since it's pretty well empty anyway. Remember that part for comments on the happening for Sunday.
I grab a bite to eat and head out to the "Elevator Shaft" for the 1 and 2 hour pratice times. Most of the time goes great. Help removed 3 or four bikes that got wedged between the two trees on the right bank and the wall of the creek. When they get wedged in there they can be a chore getting out especially if it had only been the rider there. Watching as a couple of riders drop into the creek when one of the bikes gets a little wild. Either Jim had some Wild Turkey in that camelback or his bike got stung by one of them yellowjackets cause he went half way up the right bank, dern near clipped the two trees on the right side crossed the bottom of the creek went up the left bank about half way and then turned to come back down that bank to where I'm hiding behind another tree to escape his wild ride. :eek2: The whole time he is doing it I think I can hear this crazed laughter coming from him or maybe it was one of the folks watching me and him fighting over who is supposed to be his bike's dance partner  He's yelling at me to get out of the track and I'm yelling at him to return to the track. Told me he wanted to see the track from my vantage point. Tried to blame it on the rear shock..... yeah right :lol2: I still think it was some Wild Turkey or maybe some Mescal (sp?) instead of the rebound being a little off.
Sunday was starting off pretty good and the outlook for the day seemed to be great. Got to Outlaw early, our bikes are off load, tanks topped off, Ken arrives, assist him in getting registered, make it back to the riders meeting on time, Ken and Alex go out to take the parade lap, Kyle and I have all the supplies needed for the day working at the "Elevator Shaft", bikes are warm and we are set to head out to be there in time for the riders on the parade lap. So what could go wrong?
I could hear the worse sound a racer can hear when in a hurry to get the bike to a starting line for a race..................yep the dreaded sound of a kick starter cycling thru the starting motion and no resulting sound of a 2 smoke firing off. Noticed an MSRA member's son having trouble with his bike and with it being a new 2 smoke he had just started riding the day before was unfamiliar with the cause of the problem. Quick assessment, I asked him from my vast mechanical skills and knowledge, "having problems starting that thing?" to which Bill Engall said "Nope, he is just using that kicking motion to fan the flames of the camp fire.........Here's your sign." Did manage to suggest the only thing I knew, swap out the spark plug, sounds fouled to me. So now we start the hunt for another plug. Not sure where his dad might keep plugs in their trailer so I look for the ones I know Alex has in our tool box. Can't find them, shut off my bike since it is starting to get pretty warm and I might be a little while looking for a plug so now I head out to other MSRA member camp areas to see if anyone has a plug. But the parade lap has already started and no one is around. Head back to our trailer, pass Stephen along the way who says he has a plug or two in his tool box, grab one and head back to help with the disabled bike and as I pass our trailer see where Alex has put his plugs and grab one of those also. Plug is changed and bike fires right off so grab all my stuff and get ready to head out and be where I'm supposed to be when the parade lap comes by, no problem what could go wrong, I'm on a 4 stroke not a 2 smoke. Dang the engine is hot and will not fire over, dern near wear my leg out. Seems that electric start needs a battery to work and mine's dead. Ok let it cool off, now I hear the riders from the parade lap coming back and of course Kyle is there to offer his views on the subject. Why didn't you get a new battery? You want me to find someone to kick it for you? Aren't you ready yet? Now much longer? Why didn't you buy a 2 stroke? Are we late? Has the race started yet?
Make it out to my location with time to spare before the first racers come thru this area. Decide to get the video camera set up and take a little break. Move back up out of the bottom of the creek to get a little air and decide to sit on the creek bank. Sit there a little while and feel a bite and something crawling on my arm and another bite on my :eek2: so I look and sure 'nuff, I'm sitting on a fire ant mound cleaverly hidden as a creek bank. So I decide maybe the best thing to do is move back down into the creek and wait on the racers to come by.
The rest of the day goes great. Work the spot with Kyle
http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/2163/dsc02783am9.jpg
and later Alex after his race is over. Get the chance to talk with some really good folks, both from MSRA and other clubs.
http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/9932/dsc02699si4.jpg
Watch some really good racers move thru the area and just enjoy what the Good Lord has provided for us that we then turn around and make motorcycle race obsticles out of.
To Pops and all the MSRA members,    y'all did great and I proud to be one of your members. To all the others that came out to race on our little track............ Thank You we had a blast hosting you for this race.
Now that I think about it, I wish there had been a video camera for my little flying lesson............... I've got this little pain I can't explain and I'd like to see how that happened. :lol2:

Kyle took a few pictures during the race and I thought I would post a few for him. These were taken by him and another kid, both of them about 9 years old. This was their first attempt at action shots with a cheap point and shoot digital camera. With that said, I think they did pretty good with the equipment and experience they had. I do know they had a blast taking the photos.

Nice Pics. He knew where the best spot was didn't he.
I don't like the rumors of doing the elevator backwards next time.:eek2: If so I think I will work the race and take a big water tank out there and hire a film crew to shoot the entire race.

My wife saw the pictures and got shocked to know what kind of place we rode...
Steeper, deeper shaft backwards is closer to trial. Maybe fun to try, but for race???
Kyle did great picture taking job!
Thanks!

Not to ruin anybodys fun but this has been mentioned a couple of places and
1-It is way to dangerous to run the shaft backwards, I know, I tried and on 2nd try made it, no more for me.
2-We won't have anything worse than the shaft, probably won't use it again. Once was fun and we survived w/o problems, enough!

TWT is getting dirtier every time you turn around.
I think there was one or two more and as soon as I can find their pictures I will post those also. Hopefully their photos weren't the blurred ones I couldn't read and didn't post. Come to think of it, seems that only one of those two may have been racing. I'll have to check again to see for sure.

Hey Scott, there is another one scheduled at Outlaw for September 29/30. It is a good one to watch because unlike other properties you can travel to different parts of the course while the race is going on and watch. I think Outlaw puts on the best races every year:clap:
