I am new to using GPS for motorcycles and I don't want to get in too deep for too much $$$ just yet. I would like to start out with something used and relatively cheap so I can ease into this technology. After doing a lot online reading, I am now strongly considering either the Streetpilot III or the Garmin 2610. I understand that both of these units have been discontinued but they are reasonably priced on eBay.
I want to use GPS for long distance rides to the mountains (from Texas to Idaho for example) and then for navigating county roads and fire/logging roads once I get there.

Can anyone with some experience with either unit please offer some advice on which one of these you would go with if you were me? Any and all comments are greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I have a 2610. It works well. I've used it in my car and I put a mount on my Concours. i've used it to find things in and around the Houston area. It has all the farm roads i've encountered, can't really speak for county roads.

The 2610 has a lot more features. It also uses non proprietary memory (CHEAP) and it has a touch screen. The 2610 will probably come with more recent maps as well.
