View Full Version : How many bikes do you own?

Howdy,

Okay, so I am sitting here at work, bored, and was wondering how many folks on the TWT site currently own more than one bike...

wczimmerman
10-08-2004, 02:23 PM
One, but my wife has already picked out her bike: 2004 Honda 599 in Asphalt color (she said is has to match or at least coordinate).

Tourmeister
10-08-2004, 02:26 PM
When does she get the bike? Has she already done the MSF?

Adios,

wczimmerman
10-08-2004, 02:30 PM
We haven't decided when we're going to get it, yet. Depends on some home improvement projects that I have to pay for first (80 yr old home: needs new roof)

She has not taken the MSF course, but then neither have I. I recently got a speeding ticket outside of Waco, so I decided to kill 2 birds with one bike by using the MSF course as my defensive driving. Honda even reimburses $75 of the cost. I want her to take the class before riding so I can be reasonably certainly that she'll be able to handle it.

You do have the MC endorsement, right?

wczimmerman

You do have the MC endorsement, right?

Yes, certainly. I got it about 7 years ago when I started riding on a 250 Nighthawk. Got it the hard way by taking the riding and written tests at the DPS office. 100% score on the riding test. So, if you add that time to my collective riding time, then I am closer to 2 years.

I said three, even though we have two riders in the family.

Kim and I pretty much share the R1150R.

The Moto Guzzi and my Interceptor are all that currently grace my garage. I don't see having fewer than 2 anytime soon - I already have a replacement in mind for the Guzzi ...

One right now. I have had as many as four in the last two years. Too many maintenance schedules inspections, tags, insurance premiums etc.

Tourmeister
10-08-2004, 05:09 PM
Yeah I hear ya Kurt. We had four at one time and it was a pain trying to decide which one to ride every day :-P Seriously, the insurance thing is what really kicked our financial fanny!

We're hoping to sell my VFR so we can get back down to just one bike again.

Adios,

I own a garage full. I'd have to check to see how many. I wanted to rebuild them then sell them but the market for older bikes just isn't there. You make more money parting them out.

I really miss riding offride because me and the road has never really clicked. My obsession used to be Observed Trials. I had 5 trials bikes at one time. I always flirt to get back to it but time and money won't allow it.

It is a shame that I have a new BMW and Suzuki that just sits in the garage. With Tawnya getting her liscense maybe it will change. However she even said she wants to get a dirt bike. So my future riding on the road doesn't look so great. The answer maybe getting a Dual Sport Bike.

The price of the Beemer has nose dived so selling it will probably be impossible. Once I quit travelling maybe I can sort things out.

Tourmeister
10-09-2004, 12:19 AM
Can I have the final drive off the beemer when you start parting it out :-P I was wondering when you'd see this thread hehe.

Adios,

3 at the moment but I'll probably drop down to 2 next year, well if business goes well maybe not :)

I have three bikes currently (Cass has her own which I didn't count). I hope to have one of mine sold off this month and might be converting another to something even a bit more touring friendly than the Busa.

Just one for now. But if my car/racing hobby manifests itself in scooters, then I would imagine that number will grow. I had five cars at one time. That qualifies as a bonafide addiction, right? LOL. Plus, I still don't know what kind of bike ("hot rod" cruiser or sport tourer) I want.

Three, but one's a long-term (maybe never-completed) restoration project. The other two are street-legal and road-ready!

:tab Are you going to sell the SVS? Snoopster may be interested. She's wanting to sell her GS500 and get an SVS. She likes the blue, but I think she'd like the silver as well once she sees it in person.

I am looking at a Futura at the moment, but would probably have to divest myself of the VFR if I bought it. Then, I would have to paint it Yellow, as I am not old enough for silver yet.

Yep, unfortunately I think the little SV is going to have to be sacraficed to the gods of "Its not practical to onw two bikes with a new baby". Just cant quite bring myself to give it up though, I love the little guy. Would lokve to be able to take some money and turn it into a track bike, BUTTTTTT.............

Not seriously looking yet but if a good home came up I probably could be convinced (oh lets face it, a good swift kick in the **** by Ellen to rattle my brain) to part with it. If Debbie is seriously looking, I think that would probalby be one of the best homes I could think of. Might even be able to visit it every so often :tears:

If not, I probably wont put it out on the open market for a few months.

I picked up a second bike a couple of months ago, a 1990 Yamaha FZR1000 in excellent condition but not running. I got my wife to sign up to me buying it to fix and sell. Now I have it running just about perfectly (didn't take much to do it, either) and I have been having so much fun riding it I can't bear to sell it. Sure, the ZX11 is fun, but the FZR is fun in a totally different way. I finally admitted as much to my wife last night. Now she says she is going to get a second horse. Ulp!!!

Some say two of mine don't count, due to they're Chinese manufacture. However, they run and they ride and they're fun. Even without those, I count five, though. TWO XR100s plus pieces enough to build another one. Sad a guy has to be into kids toys like that.

Got five here. Each of the boys have their race bikes and a pit bike. Maybe one of these days I can get me another one but I think it may be a cold day in August before that happens.

I have 6, 3 are street legal and insured, 2 are project bikes that I just have not had the time to get to and one is a pocket bike.

The nice thing about having more than one bike, is that if one is out of commision for maintenance, tags, inspection or whatever, you still have something to ride.

Having only 2 bikes is a sin you need at least 3 to get a good flavour assortment.

Oh well when the kids get older and my garage gets bigger...

easiest way is to host it on a image hosting sight, and then post the link.

hosting sights:
imageshack.us (http://www.imageshack.us) its free, no registration required.
photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com) free, but requires registration. allows you to set up "albums" of pictures.

once the pic is uploaded to the sight they show you the URL to the pic, take that URL and click the little pic button in the forum posting field (mountains) and paste the URL in the space provided.

Viola!
