After my trip to Washington, DC for Rolling Thunder I can to the conclusion that the soft bags on my Heritage weren't really set up to tour. Two of the guys I road with had sent their bags to Boss Bags in Wisconsin. I have a picture of the bags back on the bike but it really doesn't show much as they retain the stock look. Their web site is www.bossbags.com
The folks there are great to work with. Very helpful in explaining how the procedure of sending your bags in and how long it would take get them back. It was explained to me that once they had them it would take only one day to do the work and get them back out to me. I sent mine in on a Monday. They got them at 11am Thursday and were back on the UPS truck the next (Friday) morning. Less than 12 hours in their possession.
The bags now have a hard plastic liner on the lid, sides and bottom. They also have locks and longer straps to keep the lid closed. Those of you who have a Heritage Softtail Classic will understand the need for the longer straps. It's amazing what 1 1/4 inch longer straps do for ya. No more flappy "ears" going down the road. The locks are Master Lock so nothing cheap there.

Price. $270 for longer straps and locks. You pay shipping up and the 270 covers shipping back. Cost me $52 to ship up to them.
They also have bags for the metric cruiser folks to look at. The website is first class and very straight forward with explainations about themselves and their products. I have no financial interest in the company but wish I did. Why is it that HDMC hasn't done this? Oh well. Happy reading.:rider:
