meaning he will have ridden for three different manufacturers in three-years. His best result to date is two second place finishes.

He could have won Qatar, but chose to play blocker for Sete. I think he will make a good teammate for Rossi.

He sometimes comes across as an a-hole, but I like him. He's balls to the wall the whole time. :chug: Hopefully with the changes to the Yamaha that Rossi made them do, Colin will have a chance to climb up in the standings.

Considering that he's currently 5th in the standings as Honda's red-headed step-child, with factory backing as an "A" rider Colin could do great things.

Anybody see a Taco Cabana around here

I like Colin, but I think Rossi is riding on the very edge at all times to keep with the Honda's.Rossi is still the most talented rider out there.I will still root for Colin, but I don't think he'll do as good as he did this year.

I wish him all the luck, he's a very talented rider, is just that I believe he does't take as many risks as Rossi does, you know, married with a beautiful daughter makes him think really good about taking high risks just to make points, risking injury and all.

I think they both will make a spectacular team next year, hopefully Colin will find a setup of his liking with the Yamaha, something he could't not get on the Honda.

One more year of the 1000cc 4 strokes and then it goes down to 900. Will be nice to see all the new bikes.

The Yamaha is still not better than the best RCVs but it is way better than the garbage they gave Colin to ride this year. He didn't get the updated suspension components the leading riders received in the second or third race until Donnington or Motegi. On a third string RCV he regularly spanks the factory Hondas of Barros and Hayden and even Biaggi on occasion.

The Yamaha has improved dramatically over the course of the year and should continue to do so during the off season. Keep in Mind Rossi was contractualy unable to ride the Yamaha until CY2005, with a year on the bike there should be further improvements coming. Honda, on the other hand, has no clear development rider (Barros? ) until Max Biaggi joins and Max has not proven himself to be great shakes in that department (he was responsible for developing the Yamaha until two years ago).

Honda has a great bike but has lost its direction until at least 2006. They will win races but the championship next year belongs to Yamaha. (note: that is what I said about Honda last year, though. ) It is Yamaha's 50th anniversary and they will do whatever it takes to win the riders championship (again) and the constructors championship.

Hopefully Yamaha will feature Colin in their US ads like Honda does Nicky Hayden :chug:

I think Val rides at the very edge at all times just to ride at the edge at all times. He looked pretty pleased with his Yammy after Phillips Is. C E will do AOK and it should be a great place for the journeyman to finish out his career. Even if it don't pan out he will be flush with keyboards & guitars.

Colin ROCKS !

It's about time that he cut bait with Honda after they way they've treated him since he handed them a WSB championship on substandard equipment. He's OUR guy on the World's greatest racing stage and I think he's going to surprise a few people next year. Yamaha has to be realizing the opportunity this gives them to get them back to the glory days they had with the King Kenny, Eddie Lawson, and Wayne Rainey dynasty.

From what the commentators were saying during the last Australian race, the Yamaha is about par with the Honda now on performance  and surpasses it in the braking department. I don't care how good Rossi is, if his bike ain't at least comparable to Honda he couldn't keep up.

Of course they haven't run against me and the Speedmaster yet........ :rofl

Hmmm, then why does the second Yamaha usually end up in sixth or seventh place?

More so than Formula 1 or homogenized NASCAR, the rider still makes a difference in MotoGP. He who wants it worst wins...

If you saw Rossi's first lap, he wanted it bad!

Right on, Hawk Oberst...His head was afire and his *** was a catchin.
Gibernau was TCB himself.
As much as I wanted Ferrari to do as well as they currently do, F1 has paled since my man Nigel passed Prost on the OUTSIDE of Parabolica.
Or for the true hardcore the Gilles Villenueve/ Rene Arnoux battle. (sp?)
I can't believe I overlooked txmedic's nascar/ MotoGP comparo on the next thread till now... At least it wasn't HER back that was shaved.
They should just can the racing pretense and run figure 8's.
Who gives a ****...
I've had many an anticipated televised race pissed on in favor of a celebrity softball game over the years by most all the networks.
There , I feel better.

Go back and watch some of the early motogp races from this year. The Honda's looked like they absolutely owned Rossi with their power in a straight line, but as is always the case with the better rider, he made up for it in the turns. I have no doubt that what I saw last weekend was Rossi winning the world championship on something less than the best bike on the field ... and that's what made it all the more special.

The PI circuit this weekend was expected to be one that was better geared to the Yamahas than the Hondas but it did look as if they were more evenly matched than they have been previously. The Yamahas have no doubt improved over the course of the season and they are much closer to the Hondas than at South Africa.

Riders make much more of a difference in MotoGP but there are still significant differences in the capabilities of the bikes. I don't care how much he wanted it last year Colin couldn't have won on the Aprilia, nor could anyone on the Protons, WCMs, etc. Unless all the larger teams crashed out, of course.

This year Colin was on much more competitive hardware than he was last year and it shows (multiple podiums, up front qualifying, etc.) but there was still a huge gap between his Honda and that of his teammate who was receiving works parts on almost the same schedule as Hayden and Barros. This after being promised an equal bike :angryfir:

Even if the Honda RCVs remain the superior bike next year, as long as the Yamaha can get close, and Colin get the same parts as Rossi, it should be an even better year for the local boy  might even see him on the top step once or twice
:chug:
