View Full Version : Scratches in plastic-help!
It's been quite a while since I have last posted but need some help :-D
I was out riding this Saturday with a buddy on his VFR and he blew a radiator hose. I ended up carrying the coolant secured to the rear passenger seat.
What I didn't realize though is when I got home and took off the coolant jug it had left some small scratches on the plastic and left a couple dull spots. Nothing to big but it's still there bugging me :angryfir:. Is there a rubbing compound or something like that to remove this or do I just live with it.
I would hate to make a bigger problem than I have so any input would be great.
Thanks

See "plexiglass cleaner" in general forum... I'm partial to Plexus myself.
Meguires Scratch-X works very well.
Thanks for the suggestions. Would any of these products cause damage to the surface with too much elbow grease applied?
I used the scratch-x with a buffer with very positive results. You'd have to work might hard to screw up.
txmedic,
Exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the help. I'm sure Autozone or similar store carries it. I will let you know how it turns out.

Let me know where you find it! I've had a **** of a time finding somebody who stocks a good supply of Meguiars...
Just got back from my lunch and went to Autozone where they stock Meguiar's Scratch X for $7.99. I am looking forward to giving it a shot tonight after the Astro's game.
Thanks guys.
After that awesome ball game I put the Meguiar's to the test. It worked really well on the tail section and removed the majority of the marks and blended in the rest. The only way I can see anything is to get up real close and at an angle.
I will know better next time when strapping something down on the passenger seat to make sure it doesn't touch any plastic at all.
Thanks guys :chug:

Duct tape over the parts that contact will prevent luggage, etc from scratching your bodywork.

I'd use painter's tape. It won't leave the sticky residue that duct tape will. Although, it won't be quite as durable as duct tape. FWIW.
