While surfing for a homade mount for my GPS V.
I happened upon this well done tutorial on a $5 handle bar mount for your camera or GPS.
You do like to take ride pics. don't you ?
Needless to say I thought it was a clever idea. If it turns out to be a re- post I apologize.

Well, I can think of an adaptation that offsets the camera off to the side of the windshield, but then you're exposing the camera lens to the bugs and road debris that the shield should be blocking.

It is a matter of closing the camera when you are not using it.
I need a setup like Sparkyphotog has, or just buy his off his hands; he cannot film on it.
