WATAUGA -- A man driving a motorcycle and his female passenger were injured Saturday night when they collided head-on with a police cruiser during a high-speed chase, authorities said.
The 25-year-old man and 30-year-old woman, who were not identified, were taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth after the wreck, which happened at 11 p.m. near Chapman Road and Rufe Snow Drive, Watauga police Lt. Philip Adams said.
The man's injuries were not considered life-threatening, but the woman was in critical condition Sunday, Adams said.
A patrol officer saw the motorcycle run a red light, Adams said. When the officer tried to stop the motorcycle at Denton Highway and Chapman, the motorcycle fled east on Chapman, he said.
Another officer, coming to aid in the pursuit, turned west from Rufe Snow and collided with the motorcycle, Adams said.
"He took all of the evasive action he could, but he couldn't avoid them," Adams said.
The motorcycle driver will face criminal charges, but they haven't been determined, Adams said.

Why is it only the passenger is in critical condition because of poor choices made by the Driver...?

I heard that story earlier in the day. What a waste. Once again, an idiot on a sportbike damages the reputation of motorcyclists who ride sportbikes. I say sportbike cuz that is what the bike wreckage looked like according to news footage.
For those worried about getting stopped in Arlington from another thread, you can gurantee that this will increase their vigilance.

I dunno, perhaps the driver acted at the instigation of the of the passenger and the law of karma, if there is such a thing, dictated the passenger suffer more serious consequences. It's just a shame anyone had to get hurt because of this kind of stupidity. Where on earth did these people grow up learning that it's preferable to run from the police than take their lumps over a traffic citation. What's next, high speed running gun battles?

I don't know if this is another one, or if it's the same one and details are screwed up somewhere.

WATUAGA, Texas -- A 14-year-old boy on a motorcycle led police on a chase late Saturday in Watuaga, before crashing head-on into a cruiser, officers said.
A woman who was on the bike with the boy was critically injured, police said. The teen driver suffered injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.
The chase began on Chapman Drive, when an officer tried to stop the motorcycle, police said. The driver took off, weaving through traffic, police said. Minutes into the chase, the driver smashed into an oncoming police cruiser.
There was no word Sunday morning on charges.

Typical media, can't get anything right. 14 year old boy, 25 year old man. Hey they may have at least got the gender right.

And reporters always put their own spin on stories. Take this morning, I was watching ABC13 when the reporter prefaced her story with; "Overnight, A cyclist was run down by a car!" Now I would think I am about ready to hear about some gruesome road rage story and already thinking to myself that the car driver should receive no mercy. Then she goes on to report;
It happened on Graustark and W. Alabama. Witnesses tell police the woman on the bike ran a stop sign and was hit by the driver. The woman was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries.
The media.

In case you guys haven't kept up with this, the Plolice Department had to be Court Ordered to release the dash cam pictures.
Seems all is not as it was reported by the PoPo.
There was no red light run by the biker. The 1st cop decided to pull the biker over without probable cause. The biker decided "Not" His bad choice.
The second officer turned his Cruiser into the path of the oncoming motorcycle and when the rider tried to go around to avoid a collision, because of his speed, The Officer guns it and cuts him off. It's reported that Cop #1 was recorded as saying "what did you do that for?" to Cop #2.
The video is on U Toob.com and Beak.com. You can clearly see Cop #2 caused the collision. IIRC The rider was cited for failure to stoip. That's it.
No red light running, or any other ifractions reported initially by the PD as probable cause.
The Star Telegram ran an update story in the paper on 12/07/07. Seems they couldn't get the PD Dept to release the video without some legal arm twisting.
Po Po #1 got a 15 day suspension and # 2 was suspended for 30 days for his actions. Without Pay!
It's reported that the Family will have to file with the Texas Rangers before they can get a law suit filed for damages caused by the Officer.
You just can't trust anybody anymore and the Police are finding out that those dash cams are not so neat when they screw up. The street cop cannot in any way erase the dash cam videos. The videos are downloaded by a special internal affairs Officer at the Station at the end of each shift. Even the Captain can't touch them.

Not entirely correct.
The officers cannot erase over already recorded material on the systems either analog or digital, but they are not downloaded by internal affairs, they should be downloaded by the officer onto the server (if they are digital) or the shift supervisor will retrieve the VHS tape from the car at the end of the shift or after a major incident.
There may be some agencies that allow patrol officers access to their own VCR vaults but by and large most agencies' SOPs require that a supervisor be the only one allowed to access the tapes
The digital systems do have a neat feature called pre event recording where the system will be constantly recording a pre set loop into memory and when the officer initiates the system, it will go back a pre set amount of time and mark the beginning of the incident at that point.
This varies by system as well as agency, and can be changed at any time very easily.
So, smile, you be on not so candid camera if the po po behind has a digital system in his car and he's sitting behind you at a red light even with the lights off. :trust:
