Two people have died from injuries they received Sunday when two motorcycles collided with a car in Stephenville.
Timothy Cunningham, 29, of Stephenville, died 8:25 p.m. Tuesday at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where he was taken by helicopter ambulance following the collision.
Lora Wulfjen, 18, of Breckenridge, died at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, also at JPS.
Four other people were hurt in the wreck that happened at 9:50 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of West Washington and North Dale streets, Stephenville Police Chief Roy Halsell said.
Wulfjen, a first-year student at Tarleton State University, joined classmate Julie Ohnemus, 17, of Waltham, Mass., for a brief ride on motorcycles owned by Cunningham, Halsell said.
"They were just acquaintances," Halsell said of the students and the men. "From what I understand, they had just met the night before.
"Both girls were freshmen at Tarleton. They hadn't even been in school a week."
The women rode on the back of the motorcycles, Halsell said. One was ridden by Cunningham, the other by his friend, 21-year-old Apollo Long, Halsell said.
None of them, he added, wore helmets.
The motorcycles were westbound on Washington Street, Halsell said. The two men were taking the women back to where one of them had parked her truck, he said.
A 1994 Geo Prizm, which carried a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, turned in front of the motorcycles and collided with them, Halsell said.
Cunningham and Wulfjen were on the same motorcycle, Halsell said.
Long was treated and released at Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital, but Ohnemus was taken to Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital, where she was listed in fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
No citations were issued by Wednesday, and the wreck was still under investigation, Halsell said.
