What: FM 390, also known as La Bahia Road (http://www.texasescapes.com/TRIPS/Scenic_drives/LaBahiaScenicHighwayFM390.htm), is a Texas Scenic Highway that runs from Burton (about 20 miles east of Giddings off of 290) more or less northeast to 105 between Brenham and Navasota.

Though not particularly technical in terms of twistiness, FM 390 takes you through a wonderful series of rolling hills, between nicely tended fence lines and almost manicured pastures.

The curves are generally of the gentle sweeper variety, although there are two sharp turns just south of a single lane tunnel under a railroad in Gay Hill that is worth a bit of caution.

QuickTime (http://www.bitsof.info/us/tx/FM390Med.mov)

Where: See above for details, but it's about 90 miles east of Austin on 290.

Designation: Farm-to-Market (FM) 390

Great clip Buck. What software do you use to make these?

Thx, txcpl. I use Window Movie Maker, with Quicktime Pro to convert to a .mov file (and I remain all ears to suggestion how to get a .mov file to load incrementally instead of waiting for the entire file to be downloaded before playing).

Depending on what server you are running, you may need to install a plug-in (Apache) or purchase/enable it on your Windows server. RealServer 8 will allow you to do it on your apache box and its free. Quicktime also has a server called Darwin, which is free as well.

If you have a windows server, you may or may not have the ability to do it and may have to shell out some cash to buy the software.

;-) . I was going to use Blind Willie Johnson (having just heard a version of one of his songs while watching The Ladykillers), but that was just a bit too obscure...

Nothing wrong with Texas Blues, and so long as it goes with the road and sounds good..you can always put the title in the credits..ever watch the Ride Behind Videos vids?

That's just it, the music didn't quite fit.

Nico, thanks for the streaming info. I didn't realize it was server-side. Guess it's up to my hosting site...

Hey next time the "BCS group" heads to Somerville to eat you should come with. We go from BCS to 390 the curviest way possible, ride to burton, then head to somerville and split a cow. Makes for a relaxed, enjoyable ride with a very nice meal at the end.

I just ran this road for the first time last Saturday. I loved it so much I went back on Sunday. But on Sunday I did some more riding out there, too. There is an FM 2780 that almost links up with 390 and forms kind of a loop for 1697. 2780 stops about a mile away from the start of 390 on 1697. It has some nice sweepers also.

Also, I kept riding from the end of 390 and ended up heading to Navasota and riding FM 3090 for the first time. Has anyone started a write-up for this road? If not, it needs one. It runs from Navasota almost to Carlos and is a great sweeper road, with a few twisties thrown in for fun.

Great video Buck! It's nice to be able to show non-riders where we ride. We had a blast on 390 on Wednesday. :-D It's one of my favorite places to ride. Very little traffic and nice rolling scenery. Relaxing and FUN!

That was a new one to me too. I've seen lots of things, but trucks bursting into flames in front of us was a new one. Glad we were a decent distance behind him.
